Would this be a reliable champ pool for ranked?

Slythion··3 votes·851 views

I'm comfortable with: Top: DrMundo Garen Gnar Mid: Annie Lux Zed Morgana Veigar Syndra ADC: Caitlyn Lucian Quinn Twitch Support: Braum Blitzcrank Soraka Jungle: Amumu Rengar Shyvana Warwick Shaco Udyr Nocturne

I was just wondering if there are any holes in potential team comps that I should fill with a new champ before I go into ranked later in the year, or if there are any better champs to substitute for my current champs.

dont play shaco in ranked, people dont understand how he works and they expect him to do stuff like a normal jg.

Slythion1 votes

I can completely understand that, I may play around with my champ pool just to narrow it down with more reliable champs too. Shaco is fun, but not necessarily effective 100% of the time

the thing with shaco is u can do ur job well and ur team will still accuse u because they dont understand shaco. he is a complete different style of gameplay than any other champions, just like teemo and nasus.

Slythion1 votes

Understandable, when I eventually play ranked I will employ the DST to the exteme and be complete anti-tilt in the game, playing a champ that could tilt my own teammates is definitely a nono

First of all, I would recommend narrowing down your options to two main roles. While knowing how every role and match-up players is extremely useful, you shouldn't spread yourself so widely when trying to climb.

In addition, I would probably recommend shrinking the number of champions you play in each role so that you can get more used to them, their builds, their play-style and their match-ups. I'd probably recommend at most 5 per role for 2 roles until you become more experienced with them.

The main issue I see is that you don't really have anybody who is strong against ranged champions (AD or AP) for top-lane. I'd probably recommend learning someone like Renekton or Irelia to cover top match-ups.

You have a lot of carry junglers and very few tank/CC jungler (only one I see is Amumu). That isn't necessarily an issue, but durability and CC are two of the most commonly missing quantities in lower-ELO and they can be extremely influential. However, they are all quite straight-forward champions which is a good quantity for Bronze play (since it lets you focus more on decisions than mechanics).

I'm not sure if it helps at all (since champion pools tend to be personal preference), but the following are some of my preferred champions and my reasoning behind picking them (aside from the vital "I like them").

Top: Renekton Irelia Nasus Trundle DrMundo Nautilus

  • Irelia and Renekton are my generalist safe-picks, since they can be used safely in most match-ups.

  • Nasus is a great counter-pick for many passive laners and split-pushers (especially attack-speed dependent champions) while having a monstrous mid-game.

  • Dr. Mundo and Trundle are my tank-killers and disruptors, being near unkillable in fights with high sustained damage.

  • Nautilus is my CC-tank, typically picked when my other lanes lack CC or durability (i.e. they all picked carries).

Junglers: Udyr Gragas Sejuani Kindred Graves Zac Vi Amumu Volibear

  • Udyr is my tanky split-pusher, letting me farm and waveclear quickly while applying pressure across the map.

  • Kindred and Graves are my "carry" junglers, primarily picked for their high early pressure and scaling.

  • Vi and Amumu are flexible picks with good innate CC and damage, letting them choose between durability and damage items as the game progresses.

  • Volibear provides strong early ganks and dueling while transitioning into a high-damage and disruptive champion during teamfights.

  • Gragas, Sejuani and Zac are durable champions with powerful ganks, extremely disruptive CC and unconditional mobility. They provide good early pressure while transitioning into monstrous teamfighters.

While I'm not telling you to copy my picks or use champions I would like, I think it would be beneficial to think about what unique benefits your champions offer. Using this information, you can determine when you want to pick them and identify what quanities your champions are lacking.

While my description of my champion pool was extremely brief, I hope it helps you form your own.

Shyvana is op now. she deserves a mention since she can snowball mid to late game. She's the new udyr.

EndlessSorcerer1 votes

I was listing my personal picks rather than the OP picks. Personally, I still prefer playing Udyr to Shyvana; I find that he's better at pressuring people under turrets (Phoenix Proc and Turtle), at escaping multiple opponents situations (Turtle and Bear) and his stun is useful for Scuttle Crab control and early ganking.

Also, Shyvana (and one of her core items) will be getting nerfed next patch, so this isn't the best time to recommend her to someone seeking to learn champions.

Wouldn't play Rengar, WW or Shaco. Even Udyr unless you really wanna play him. Annie, Lux should just be your go to champs mid. They're pretty free. Your top lane is fine although I'd switch Gnar for Kayle. Malphite is good as well Jg/Top. Sivir is also fine.

In low elo just play the free easy shit. Play harder stuff when it's competitive.

Slythion1 votes

I understand Shaco and Udyr, but Rengo and WW should be fairly reliable in the lower elos right? I've also been planning on learning Malphite, he seems pretty easy and is always reliable.

d4rkshock1 votes

He is and is fun to play. 5 man ult stuns are always the most satisfying. Remember that initiation champions require decent decision making and will teach you that. Trynd is also good. if you want to just pressure them and have high dmg all game. Just stay top until you get the t1 tower. Then do the same to other lanes and don't bother with grouping with your team. Ahri is also a good go to mid. Low skill cap. Always strong. High mobility and next to impossible to get caught.

Randomonium2 votes

Well you only need to be good at two roles now so I'd figure out which two you want to play. What I did when I made my champion pool is I identified when I would pick each champion. You really only need around 5 champions for your main role and 3 for your off role (and you can even get away with 3 in your main role and 2 in your off role.) I agree with others that you should avoid Warwick, Rengar and Shaco unless you're really good with them. Syndra is another one to avoid unless you are really skilled with her.

Slythion1 votes

Jungle/Mid are my 2 best roles, neither are significantly better than the other.

Mid: I'm confident in all of those champs, but I understand that Syndra is the weakest in my mid champ pool

Jungle: Shyvana/Rengar/Amumu are my top 3 but I have success with all the others

I'm confused as to why Rengar should be avoided, I understand he was nerfed fairly recently but he seems to still be able to do his job well

Randomonium1 votes

The reason why I said avoid Syndra and Rengar is they are higher mechanical skill champions. When you start off in ranked you want to play champs you are good at who don't have overly complicated kits. With those champions its way too easy to make mistakes that can wind up costing you a team fight or even the game when the pressure is really high. You want to go for those low risk/high reward champions because they are much more forgiving which will allow you to have a slightly higher win rate and climb faster.

d4rkshock1 votes

Why ww. It's low elo. He will stomp.my last 3 games as him, it helped my team stomp. He has the least mechanical skill out of all those jgs. Probably the entire roster. Just ult to get to them and have ur teammates follow up. and activate ur e(toggled off most of the time so u don't alert them then on while engaging) and spam q. Press w to take objectives.

Randomonium1 votes

Just ult to get to them and have ur teammates follow up

This is all Warwick has going for him. The whole point is that teams don't know how to follow up at low elo. Most of the time you'll ult and your team will do nothing and then you'll be running away as Warwick. Yeah he's easy to play but he's just not as impactful as an Amumu or a Shyvana or an Udyr.

d4rkshock1 votes

Last time I tried that in ranked, it worked out. They would kill them or I would since how much dog I would deal. It's also good for hanks since its a guaranteed success if you use it immediately. They will go for it. This ult does require decision making like yi or you will get caught. He's more of a support style jg.

Billy VoHagen2 votes

I'd say pick up Corki or Kog'Maw, just so you can have a magic damage adc. Sometimes a team needs one of those.

d4rkshock1 votes

It looks fine. Just play simple champion and ur fine. I understand ur good with rengar and shaco. For top, trynd is good in low elo. He almost always wins lane if not countered since people se in at 1/4 hp and have wards and think " I could probably kill then then lose and are begging mid and jg to gank. It tilts them. You should focus on core mechanics rather than playing high skill cap champions. You can spam ww and still get gold. I'm stomping with base mechanics and getting better at decision making before straight up high skill cap champions. Function over form essentially. All I care is I do my job right. Don't care if being good at high skill cap champions makes me look good. I could be an Annie otp and get diamond. That's my advice for climbing. If you are good at Syndra, shaco, rengar, and zed, good for you. Also remember that Quinn can do every pos except supp. Just don't do the master outside of what ur good at.

The lords of Rito have declared that you only need to know 2 roles.

Drop your champ pool down to 4 max for any 1 role and figure out 2 roles that you really want to play.

Basically to many champs right now

Definitely Bait1 votes

Imo the most reliable champions for low elo are something like this (Low elo thrives on easy to play but strong champions)

Jng Amumu Warwick Shyvana Udyr

Top Garen Darius Malphite Graves

Mid Annie Malzahar Malphite

Adc MissFortune Ashe KogMaw Lucian

Support Taric Soraka Blitzcrank Malphite

Starting out you want champions with simple kits that let you focus on more basic aspects of the game (Map awareness, Warding, When to trade, Cs, Wave control) High mechanical requirements and dependence on heavy outplaying / cheese will just teach bad habits and make it harder on yourself.

Malphite is in three lanes because he does decently in all three and is a very very simple champion to pickup.

Honestly Graves, Kog, and Lucian are all close if not a little past the cut off line for being simplistic enough to start out with.

first of all mundo is perma banned so better change him. i wouldn't play veigar at all now. or syndra. the rest ark ok

Nahui1 votes

Gnar, Lux, Lucian/Cait, Braum, Shyv/Amumu.

Those are the powerhouses in your list that have very little chance of being banned out.

My suggestion is add an AP to your top lane roster. Vlad is good, along with Swain, Malphite. If your mid laner goes AD and jungle goes AD, you'll want some sort of AP up there, and Mundo does not count.

I'd also add another utility support. Soraka has a high chance of being banned and is currently on Riot's radar for nerfs. Sometimes you don't want a tanky support, depending on your comp. Nami is a powerful addition, Sona is decent. I'd even go so far as to put Bard, however he takes some serious learning.

Problems I see:

Veigar - not very strong right now. Can be good, but Lux and Annie are much more reliable.

Syndra - hard to say; depends on your skill level. If you dance on a 50% win rate with her, I would take her out of your champion pool, any higher, and keep her, definitely. Same goes for Zed.

Rengar Jungle - Kinda strong right now, but just be wary of nerfs to him; directly, or indirectly.

Shaco Jungle - Some teams can't play with him. Some people don't know how to receive a Shaco gank, so you may want to take him out. Still solid though, and is possible that you can keep him in.

Overall:

Very good variation, provided you are skilled with all of these champions, and it's very good to be able to fill all roles. In general, you ought to do pretty well. Most of your roles are versatile enough to fit into most comps, and that's great. Good luck in ranked!

Sohleks1 votes

That's more than most people are capable of climbing with. You're good.

You only need to play two different spots with the current system though.

I too like to play very many champions. I generally rely on exploiting the strengths and advantages of my picks over my opponents and team coordination rather than raw "outplays"

JavelinJoe1 votes

Learn leona and morgana for support since they have so much usefulness. Get an ap top laner like Teemo, Ryze, Malphite, etc..., Nasus for stacking power, Pantheon for the burst/assassinish top laner, or GangPlank for the global ult and barrels are op. I'd recommend also learning vayne adc since this is a tank meta. Mid looks fine but if you want more I would recommend TF, Vel'koz, and Yasuo. As for JG. you look solid, but add Yi because reasons that are obvious, and rammus for the counter to Yi.

And maybe in general, just Kayle.

IMO you might want to change your top lane champion pool. I think they rest of your pool is fine.

The reason? It is hard to carry with those champions. While it is possible to carry with them, it becomes nearly impossible if you are vs someone in lane who goes even with you or you are forced to play passive due to a hard counter. This forces you to heavily rely on your teammates' performances.

In the top lane, I prefer champions who are tanky, can wave clear, and can still offer a lot to the team when playing from behind.

My personal favorite champions where I never feel helpless in any matchup are....

Sion Chogath Malphite

I personally don't use Nautilus in the top lane but he is probably a good pick up still. Also, Keep Garen in your champion pool because when you can pick him into a favorable matchup, you can carry a game very hard with him.

Olath Quortek1 votes

Bro you look beautiful... there are plenty of people out there who wouldn't have anything for 1 or more position (mainly support) much less at least 3 for each. I mean I basically only play one champion... XD

Good luck to ya!
