So after playing Blitzcrank....

I don't want to say he's overpowered. I just think there is WAY too much going on in his kit which makes him an easy pick and a strong pick for support role. Let me explain.

  • He has a passive shield that basically scales of mana, so building Frozen Heart, Rod of ages, Or even tear, grants him this HUGE ass shield to tank A LOT of damage which he would already be doing otherwise in a teamfight making him even harder to kill.

  • His Q is what obviously makes him blitzcrank, the robot that can grab you, but this hook man flies so fast its just ludicrous how easy it is to land that hook even if it is a skill shot, it really flies fast.

  • His E has like the shortest cooldown ever for being a knock up. You can spam that thing very easily and it can almost guarantee a kill for your team provided you can just keep chasing them with W and mobility boots.

  • His ultimate is what really bugs me. Not only is it an AOE silence that does A LOT of damage, the cooldown is below 30 seconds at level 1? I mean really?

  • His W is silly stupid which basically gives him a burst of movement speed to just run up and knock up if he misses his pull initially

  • Another problem is the fact that his Q, E, and R all do a significant amount of damage. Blitz can pull of his whole Q E R combo and the enemy ADC is already below half HP and your adc just has to clean up. He does A LOT of damage

See what I mean? I Just feel there is just too much going on his kit that makes it very easy to support.

I'm surprised you didn't mention his W. Thats actually one of the biggest issues with his kit, his Q has some fairly simple counterplay in a vacuum, position properly and he can't mis-position you. Problem is W makes him stupid fast that he can just run up to you and knock you up, and when you flash/Valk out of it he can pull you back in.

Plus the COMPLETE lack of counterplay in the jungle if he has even the slightest ward coverage. And once he gets Righteous Glory/Talisman there is no counterplay since he is so tanky you can't blow him up and he gets like 650 MS. The only time Blitz ever becomes the slightest bit weak is when no one on you team can do anything. Or you grab Amumu, but thats easy to not do.

I wouldn't say he is overpowered, but his kit is just way too toxic to be allowed to stay.

His W is way too overwhelming. When i see him W+mobi+coin at me there just nothing i can do about it. My only counterplay to his maintained 500+ MS is on a 5 minute cool down.

They should increase its cost drastically if riot plans on leaving its CD and duration alone. They could lower his Q cost in response as well (not that i think he needs that).

Also he needs a VU, he looks absolutely ridiculous right now.

Sirsir1 votes

Honestly since he stacks raw mana as is I think they should just rack up the cooldown, or neuter the duration. Probably the latter, seemed to work for Tristana.

Sir Yamazuki7 votes

Obviously he's too strong, almost 60% win rate with ignite plat+ and wins against all supports. No one wants to complain about him though because supports aren't complained about as much as solo laners/junglers lately.

He's not the only support doing too well currently either.

Kinda hard to do anything relevant during his 3 seconds of CC. Yes, it might end poorly for him...but by that logic, every champion with a dash should be disqualified from the "OP" pool because dashes can backfire too.

He currently wins against all 3 mostly. 54% win rate vs Morg and Ali, and almost 51% vs Leona. Leona, Taric, and Brand are the only supports even close to 50%.

I literally miserably lost a game because Blitz kept hooking Talon into us. Doing this got talon First Blood, second game death, and third, all on different players because his reaction time was better than Blitz who didn't pre-cast his E......

There can be so much wrong with a blitz player. So much wrong.

He's really not that powerful overall... when in the support role there's many others that out class him, a lot of which, like him, weren't meant for the support role in the first place. This is the only reason they can be considered strong, but still not really a problem.

He's not outclassed at all, he wins against every single support.

I beat him with Leona, Morgana, Lulu, Janna or Thresh every single time. So he is easily out classed.

If he can land hooks on the right targets then yea he's stronk...if he keeps pulling the enemy alistar then...not so much...

FirstSergeantBim4 votes

I don't think he's too strong, he's just annoying to play against. Walking on eggshells isn't fun, especially when he's hard to punish. Even if there are things you can do to prohibit Blitz from picking your team apart, the ball's still in his court because all he needs to do is safely try again and eventually he will land the Q. Plus, as you get better at dealing with Blitz, Blitz will get better at screwing your team over. He's great for a team that's behind or ahead, it doesn't matter because he thrives on making picks so the next team fight is in his favor.

LoRdJeSuS69694203 votes

Strong? Yes. Too strong? Ehh...Many supports are capable of bursting the enemy adc pretty darn hard. He has no poke, and if he doesn't land his hooks--or the enemy team is smart about dealing with him--he isn't very useful.

The Paulrus3 votes

Blitz's kit is very intermittent at best. If he nails his Q, you're likely done. If he misses, he's useless for the next 30 seconds or so. Also, the passive on his ult can mess with his carry's ability to CS if you're not careful. Also, get yourself a Cleanse/QSS and you're pretty well set against him. His ult is a bit too strong though, I will give you that. They either need to remove the silence or reduce the damage.

Terff3 votes

I really just wish they'd be able to somehow balance his supporting power with his solo lane power so that they don't nerf him completely to the point that one is no longer viable.

Daedalus8713 votes

As a silver player, Blitzcrank is pretty telegraphed.

Remlap12233 votes

Blitz needs a cohesive role. The only reason why he's a "support" is because his kit is too toxic to be allowed to the good "rock em sock em robot" tanky bruiser he was meant to be. I used to hate Blitz as much as I hate LeBlanc currently until the Morgana meta came in, but even now I can see that he's way too much of a "hand a free kill to the adc" champ or "steal it for himself". His kit was not meant to support, and honestly, if Riot believes Blitz is meant to be a support, they need to rework his kit to support that. If not, they need to rework his kit in such a way that allows him to be that nasty pulling machine without just cheesing games.

LegitBacon661 votes

I agree

XaviorZeroBlazer2 votes

is the 100% AP scaling that's the problem

arcinex2 votes

Blitz offers little to nothing in teamfights for a team that's behind and even a team that's ahead. Blitz excels with teams that get ahead and stay ahead.

There are many better support champions that can turn tides and many of those support champions have game changing ultimates, e.g. Braum, Leona, etc.

LegitBacon661 votes

His ult is good enough for team fights, and Q for pick off or peel, and E for single target CC/disable that person from doing anything

N3mO062 votes

Blitz's problem is not the of movement speed of the W or the cd of E, the Q (maybe hitbox), the problem is that already a grab with Knoch up and silence is enough to get you into trouble, you do not need to inflict About 500damage( this is the problem) with R (first rank), grab 270 -320damage and E 200-300 damage, no objects, only basic damage with Cc. And then the ult's cd: each grab he has these cursed 500-600 damage with silance from the ult......the cd is so stupdly low for no reason?!?! Waveclear?? He doesn't need, he is a support, so why??? Then did you ever try blitz full ad with trinity, manamune, ie, ghostblade, boots, lw???? Even rengar full buld dps can shot him for the shield and he deals so much damage with e and ult mixed with all his CC. No way to fight against him if he has managed to build some items. Pls try

LegitBacon661 votes

Yeah when I play with a draven, I just pulled ashe, did my whole combo and he just had to auto attack twice.

ZACKandATTACK2 votes

The only reason Blitz is strong is because people don't know how to dodge hooks. It's like my teammates want to get hooked and killed.

LegitBacon661 votes

Exactly. Some of the time its just when he knocks you up and you try and run he just pulls you back.

ZACKandATTACK2 votes

That only happens after Blitz is fed from free hook kills.

That is only if he lands a hook though. Other than that his early lane phase is pretty bad.

Kitten of Evil1 votes

His Q is also zero risk to him. Every single other pull/grab in the game (Thresh, Nautilus, Leona, Urgot and others) require you to put yourself in harm's way and most of them also disable the grabbing champion for that time. You pull the enemy but also get pulled towards them. I don't mind Blitz in lane so much, since it's easy to avoid him if you're aware of your positioning... but he's ridiculously powerful late-game. It's not a matter of IF he will pull someone in a teamfight, it's a matter of WHEN. And at no time does he put himself at risk like Thresh and Nautilus do. If he misses? Okay, just wait 12 seconds and try again. There's also no wrong person to grab, except perhaps an Amumu, because that person and the team has no chance to respond to the grab. In contrast, a Thresh who grabs the support or AP carry might pay for that with his life, since he is now amid the enemy team and is disabled for the duration of the grab.

Blitz's hook is every bit as powerful as a flash+Janna ult or a Gragas as a displacement and picking tool... the difference is, it's got a basic spell's cooldown and is invariably comboed with a chain of CC (Q+R+E)

Champion Skin1 votes

There is some risk in Blitz pull... like pulling Amumu into your team might be a rather bad idea....

Kitten of Evil1 votes

I did say that...

LegitBacon661 votes

Exactly, he is a very safe support with no "risks".

When you're new to the game, or unaccustomed to fighting blitz, he can definitely be an issue. He's especially an issue if you (or your lane partner) lack confidence and start playing fearfully around him.

In a bursty high damage lane, Blitz isn't very useful. He relies on his adc to follow up, and when his adc is getting out damaged, or the other support has superior damage / cc, he suddenly isn't all that useful.

I think he's situationally strong, and perhaps a little too strong when he does hit those ideal conditions, but he's definitely not without counters and weaknesses, especially as the game gets past the laning phase.

Champion Skin1 votes

Blitz E does NOT deal a lot of damage... it is pretty much the same as a crit and an auto attack reset (double of your AD damage)... so no it does not deal a lot of damage...

A Miss Fortune1 votes

Blitzcrank is EXTREMELY strong and should not be played as a support. Just thinking about his kit:

-He has a grab with strong damage -He has a strong movement speed and attack speed steroid -He has a knock up that resets your auto attacks and does full damage -He has a very low cooldown AoE ultimate with high damage AND a silence -His passive is a huge shield late game that will basically give you another life or health bar -His secondary/ultimate passive does extra damage and is perfect for dueling

Blitzcrank, like Sona, are commonly played as supports despite them being able to excel in other lanes. AP Sona Mid is very powerful and I remember one of the first games I played with it I went 34 kills and only 1 death, to be fair I had already played about 120 games with Sona before but she isn't that hard to play (though I would say fairly difficult to master.). Blitzcrank top or mid could be one of the strongest things in the game really. He has a decent base tankiness, plenty of CC, high damage, and at max level your W with cooldown reduction your W can be a permanent movement speed and attack speed steroid almost. I've seen Blitzcrank go top or mid a few times before and every time the Blitzcrank got extremely fed and we won the game.

Feathermane1 votes

Yeah well, generations of players were belittled for pointing out that Blitz is a bursty tank who can set up his hook by walking up to you and knocking you up first. Now it's your time to learn how to deal with this champion. And frankly, I don't want him nerfed, he's in line with other supports. Same deal as Fizz, l2p scrub was the answer I got and now you should get the same in the interest of intergenerational justice and fairness.

SleepyLionCub1 votes

He gets counter picked extremely easily. Has really bad synergy with many adcs. And is basically thresh but with less cc.

Abyssphere1 votes

He is ridiculous. His win rate and play rate when looked at together make it hideously obvious he's overtuned and he's the single most oppressive support in the game, imo. Laning phase against a Blitz is walking on egg shells from start to end and there's nothing more oppressive than knowing your bush is warded and seeing the Blitz in there but knowing you have no option to stay back anyway because his position means your minions are providing no coverage from the hook.

Thresh hooks might be annoying but it's not an instant death or two burned summoner spells. Same for Leona even though she's stupid too (her ult CD is stupid for a support, she's ready to kill you every time you come back to lane when your ult is still 30+ seconds on CD).

Lozier1 votes

When there's a Blitz support on the enemy team whilst I'm ADC, I just ignore him. He doesn't seem like a threat to me seeing as how I know how to sidestep a pull. Even if he tries to run up to me and knock me up I don't really give a fuck. Then again I'm in that ''Bronze'' elo..

I personally don't want to vote here. I would rather not see a Blitz nerf, because then I would be facing a Thresh support EVERY GAME.

Rainbowgasm1 votes

I try to play Wukong against him. When Blitzcrank does that "I'm clearly going to grab you" tunnel vision run at my adc, I put myself in front of him and get ready to block his grab with decoy. I have this timed almost perfectly now and rarely fuck up (I had to throw a few games to practice this, I won't lie). I can definitely see how overwhelming he can be though, and is probably the best at ruining some one's game before it even begins with his lvl 1 invades.

Maybe he's really hard to balance because he has that one skill that's a complete Diva while the other 3 skills (including his ult) have to be weak to compensate for having this one super gratifying skill that decides the out come of entire games more than possibly any other skill in the game.
