She outdamaged you? Are you sure you just weren't durable enough to not take a beating?

As for the sustain, Sejuani doesn't have any. Why would it make no sense for Akali to out sustain Sejuani?

I built Cloth Armor. He dash dealt more than my Q. Literally every time we traded she out damaged me and took half my health. I had to juke her out with my ult and W to survive. But it was okay! I healed up in a few seconds off minions each time. Also I'm an assassin. I should have no sustain until I at least have Hextech. She's a tank, she should the whole game.

Akali has built in sustain though.

And Sejuani does mostly magic damage. Cloth armor only reduces her W (which doesn't hurt much) and her auto attacks.

Beyond that, tanks tend to have higher base damages to help them clear and fight in lane so they aren't just farming under tower being uninteractive.

Why did you build cloth against Sejuani on Akali?

Oh ok. You built incorrectly because you misjudged your opponents laning. Can't blame you for that, it happens.

That being said, you probably shouldn't have tried to trade much early against Sejuani on a champion with a bad early.

That's not true. Sejuani deals a very high percentage physical damage, top Sej is normally around 60% physical damage. Presumably we're talking about lane Sejuani here, which means she's quite likely to build an early Sheen.

In the case of very early laning almost all of Sej's damage is physical, she pokes with her W and will rarely hard engage, she only tends to deal magic damage at all if you engage on her and give her the E proc or if you completely disrespect her and stay in her range with 2+ E marks on her.

Given that he started cloth it's not actually bad. It blocks out most of her early damage, which is why you'd want it anyway.
