Is Zhoyna's an OK purchase on some adc's who have AP scalings

ModAcademy Kayn··4 votes·827 views

Few adc's, like MF, Varus and Ezreal, have some ap scalings for their abilities. In terms, wouldn't Zhoynas save you more than a GA would? GA brings you into the fight, while Zhoyna's makes it so you can survive the first part of any assassins.

Zhoyna's is also up much more often than GA, so wouldn't it be better?

Generally, Quicksilver Sash/Mercurial Scimitar would probably benefit you more as a defensive tool. I don't think the AP scaling is a factor in it, but whether they have an assassin that keeps getting behind you and 1 shotting, so bad that you're literally useless. I've seen Imaqtpie (challenger ADC) pick it up like twice, but not as a serious competitive itemization.

He's been able to do pretty nice plays with it though. The active is really useful and the extra Armor just makes it a bit harder for someone like Zed or Rengar to insta you.

I think Scimitar is more for when you're being CC'ed, you can kite with it but people like Rengar could care less about your ability to kite and your positioning.

Yes against the right enemy champs it is the best defensive item.

Against Vi, for instance, it is extremely powerful.

It works really well on Corki, and I wouldn't complain if I saw an Ezreal building it. Miss Fortune... I don't care if you build AD or AP; I don't expect you to do very well (but I'm not going to bash you for picking her).

It really depends on which ADC you're talking about, but those three can use it efficiently enough.

Wow what a way to bash players who use MF. Just because she isn't the god tier ADC Vayne doesn't mean she's a horrible ADC.

I have heard this discussed. For certain ADC's, I could see it.

Really recommend against it because you aren't building magic pen.

Banshees Veil will help you out a lot more defensively due to the extra hitpoints.

Armor through base stats is 44% higher on melee champions (~75 vs. 52), and 150% higher on ranged champions @18 (~75 vs. 30). You're talking a whopping 3.25 MR bonus in a base 52 vs. a last-whisper penetrated 48.75 armor on a melee. 3.25 Magic damage also has an 18.75 advantage vs. armor in that case vs. a squishy. Armor is also easier to itemize for, what with having two 100 armor options and a solid 70, where MR is only available at most in 60 on 1 item and 55 on most solid MR items. Barring a Howling Abyss exclusive MR item at any rate. With magic damage of any kind you're pretty much always going to have a free Last Whisper bonus.

The reason to avoid itemizing magic damage on a physical champion is never, and has never been, a lack of magic penetration. Magic damage is essentially physical damage with free armor penetration.

The reason to avoid itemizing magic damage is because it almost never scales with critical strikes, attack speed, life steal, AD, armor pen, or apply on-hit effects. It's a matter of 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 = 16 vs. 2 x 2 x 2 + 2 = 10. Compared to something like GA though, it's more a matter of 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 +** 0** =16 vs. 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 + 2 = 18, so I'm not sure why you'd complain about the damage at all.

If you're talking 4th+ major item - sure, stasis is pretty awesome. Expensive, but arguably worth it on a decent number of otherwise AD champions.

That said - Zhonya's active is disabled if you're silenced, stunned, knocked-up, or just really surprised and OHKOed instantly.

GA will save you regardless of what's thrown at you - often leading to situations where an enemy assassin dived on you, didin't kill you, and is now standing in the middle of your team - with no resets to get back out! It's also worth mentioning you can't target an opponent that's in stasis - so the only point-click skills you can evade are ones mid-flight when Zhonya's is active, or things like Fiora's Blade Waltz that are more of a channeled thing. Vs. a lot of opponents - Zhonyas could very well just delay the inevitable, where GA can allow you to survive through a QWER burst, setting it on CD for your opponent. GA is also substantially more affordable.

I don't really see how the Stasis really helps out the ADC's that much. Freeze yourself in place for 2 seconds, and the enemy is already on top of you. (more likely they already were when you used it.) but Unlike APC's, they do have much options after leaving stasis. An APC might just be buying enough time for their Cooldowns. But an ADC has fewer options to Engage or retreat after the stasis.

Personally I think ADC's would want effects that just brush off damage and CC instantly, QSS, or a BV, would offer you better protection from enemy engage.

item 3157 is quite honestly cost effective for its active alone and is ok on any champion, even ones with no AP scalings. There are more optimal choices, but Zhonya's is quite frankly good on everyone.

The problem is that while you are in stasis, you aren't doing any damage. Constant sustained damage is the ADC's main role. With lifesteal and good positioning, you should never need it.
