Why is the new Irelia a Mage?

K I just went down the Irelia rework, and I have to say..... someone in development didn't think through these AP ratios/the utility from a melee AP champ.

http://www.surrenderat20.net/2018/03/320-pbe-update.html

I'm pretty sure she's going to be pretty strong on the following build item example:

item 3100 item 3146 item 3115 item 3042 item 3053 item 3158

The reasons I come up with this build?

Her Base stats will be 131 AD at level 18, and item 3053 will boost that to 197 AD. item 3146 adds 40 and item 3042 adds 25 + 2% of mana at 18 (with Lich, that's 2200 Mana *.02 = 44)

That's a total of 306 AD (+ runes)

Now, for AP: 240 pre rune AP.

If you look at Irelia's damage scaling, all but her Q is AP scaling. But it's not just that:

Q with this build:

4.8 second cooldown even if it doesn't kill anything, 0 cooldown it if does OR if it hits a mark (meaning you can Q a champion 3 times if you apply marks correctly without cooldown)

Applies on hit: 304 base damage Q, appliesitem 3100 for .5 * 197 (Base AD)= 98.5 damage + .75* 240 AP = 278.5 damage. applies item 3115 for 51 damage. applies item 3042 for 132 damage.

Q total damage: 765 damage.

But here's the kicker: W: 7.2 Second cooldown 65% incoming damage reduction, PLUS 10% of AP in damage reduction. In other words, 24% MORE damage reduction, meaning while in W, Irelia will reduce incoming damage by 89%!

AND IT CAN'T BE INTERRUPTED

Damage on W: 787

E:

6 Second cooldown 456 damage

Ult: 54 Seconds

Initial hits 568 Damage

Does another 568 Damage if champs try to pass through the walls.

And most of the damage comes from AP.... not from AD.

In one correctly executed combo, this is 4,674 damage, for those who don't like adding it up.

And this DOESN'T INCLUDE RUNES (Sorcery Runes will put her W over 100% damage reduction, and further buff her damage on all but Q.

That's also not including her passive.... which can do up to 288 damage if the target has a shield on.

You might be able to get a better output by changing out item 3115 for a item 3124 , but the point is..... Irelia is now a Jax at high levels. Can gain 100% damage reduction, mitigate a ton of skills, disable attacks while not invulnerable, and deals 4600 damage in one combo, and resets.

And it stems from AP.....

did u even read this post also lmao shaco is so garbage is not even a champ anymore, only mains play him

The post was about literally every skill but her Q being AP scale now. And unlike 1 hit Shaco, Irelia's entire kit is useful. Shaco doesn't have an invincibility button, his boxes are not useful. It's all about his backstab package.

It only takes 350 AP for her W to get to 100% damage reduction, and her other skills do substantial and reliable damage.... all on low cooldowns. Not only that, she has:

  1. Aoe Stun

  2. Aoe Slow

  3. Aoe Disarm

  4. 2 different ways to reset Q

She's going to be a mage monster. You could literally build her AP, and she is going to outscale and outkill an Akali..... and unlike Akali..... she can go invincible, and control entire zones of the map.

Akali is SO HOT1 votes

If the Akali player is good, then she'll be able to do a lot more than new Irelia with full builds. Akali doesn't have the damage reduction, but Twilight Shroud is still very powerful and she burst squishy targets much faster than new Irelia which lets her pop off more quickly and more consistently. New Irelia can still pop off, but a good Akali is much better at clean ups.

Her damage scaling on a Q > Auto outclasses the damage Akali's Q > R does..... and it has 3 options to reset it: Ult> Q > E > Q > Q + autos in between. It also has the healing built into it, so her encounters are going to MIRROR Akali. Her passive is even stronger potentially than Akali's, given at 4 stacks it's 96 damage, and 3 times that if vs a shield.

Akali is SO HOT1 votes

Irelia's Q + auto is 90 + 70% AD + an auto attack + 96 from fully stacked passive Akali's Q + R + auto is a total of 410 + 125% AP + an auto attack + 100 + 50% Bonus AD + 75% AP if she has the second part of her passive for a grand total of 510 + 50% Bonus AD + 200% AP + an auto attack.

Irelia can get a ton of Q resets for a lot of damage, but Akali does all of that damage above right away whereas Irelia has to do it over time. Akali is also guaranteed to get resets on her R with kills/assists whereas Irelia is not.

Irelia's Q does on hit damage..... aka it procs sheens, Nashors, and Muramanas as well as Shivs.

And yes. she is. Irelia's Q resets either on kills OR on Marks from her Ult or E.

Akali is SO HOT1 votes

When Akali auto attacks to get the Q proc she is also going to apply on hit damage. Getting multiple Qs off as Irelia takes much longer than Akali's whole combo.

i would prob switch lich for trinity, more attack speed for passive caps cdr without using boots and 197 base AD thanks to steraks 2X is more than 278.5 damage or keep this build but have secondary runes include the 10% cdr. cause with the amount of cc in this game i feel most champs need merc treads

Azadethe1 votes

The key to what I'm pointing out is that all her OTHER abilities have large AP scaling..... 60-100%.... Trinity wouldn't increase THOSE.

If you went full AP, you would still be viable, because she can load it all into her W and E, and the damage on her R. She can outnuke a lot of Mages on AP now (her primary challenge going AP would be her CS clearing, which is fine with just a sheen item + Sterak's)

my second sentence explains that I would do this build minus Ionia's for merc treads and use the rune but that must of been ignored

People were building Irelia with originally hybrid items like item 3078 item 3146 item 3124 back in 2011 which is basically since she was first released. Idk why you youngins are freaking out about AP on-hit builds on her now.

Better nerf Irelia

Azadethe1 votes

item 3078 item 3146 item 3124 were entirely different items in 2011 (especially the Ginsoo's and Trinity):

Trinity had AP, Crit rate, had a built in slow on hit.

Ginsoo's didn't have it's repeating on hit ability trigger, and had life steal/spell vamp below 50% HP. Later it even had an aoe damage effect.

Gunblade had flat life steal, so Irelia could life steal her Q's at a flat rate, as well as her autos, and the rate went clear up to 20%.

Also, the Irelia of the time didn't scale on all her abilities purely on AP, and the AD ratios were better:

Her ult scaled to both, but the AD scaling was higher, and dealt physical damage. Now it's purely AP, and does magic damage.

Her E scaled to AP.

W didn't scale at all, and is an entirely different beast; New one allows her to gain 65% damage reduction + 10% per 100 AP on a pretty spammable cooldown. (350 AP = 100% Damage reduction, and it's never disrupted, even if knocked up). No other champ in the game has a spammable immortality button for incoming damage).

Her Q is pretty much the same.

Her passive used to be tenacity. Now it's huge amounts of damage, especially vs Shield champs.

The point I'm making is she's not being made into a Mage. Hybrid on-hit items were viable on her from the beginning, and Riot is keeping that build path viability intact.

Azadethe1 votes

Except they weren't as high utility, didn't offer invulnerabilities, and weren't all magic damage.

Irelia's ONLY physical damage now is her Q and autos, and her AP scaling on E and R didn't allow her to 1 shot control an entire team. She's now set to do more AP damage than a Akali Karma etc if built correctly....

And it's not like Ginsoo isn't getting an insane rework that pretty much makes Irelia untouchable. Not only does it now have the 2 X on hit at full charges, it's going to have the capacities to do the following:

-Give up to 24% increased AP and AD (4% per stack) -If a melee champion reaches half stacks, the next hit will max out stacks.

In other words, if Irelia Q's 3 minions in a row, she's going to enter every champ fight with a fully charged Ginsoo's, gain procs on her passive, which at full stacks can do 96 damage on hit, but a Ginsoo's will double that every other hit, and that means she will do almost 600 damage to champs with shields just from her passive as soon as she enters a fight, because minions will charge Ginsoo's.
