Why does Team Builder even exist?

Surely I can't be the only one who thinks that the production of this queue was a monumental waste of Riot's resources. Originally, I thought that the whole point of it was to create and stabilize a platform that could eventually be used for Ranked Solo Q to prevent issues in Champion Select. Then I finally got some details about it as Riot's got closer to finishing it and bringing it into its Beta Testing phases only to discover that Team Builder had no Drafting phase which meant it could never be used for Ranked Queues in its current form.

#What did I think Team Builder was before it came out?

To be perfectly honest, which contributed to my disbelief that it was taking so long for Team Builder to be produced, at the time, I thought that 'Team Builder' was literally just going to work as follows:

<Play> <Classic : Summoner's Rift: Ranked Solo/Duo (Draft Pick)> <Select Primary Role>

Top Mid Jungle AD Carry ◄ Support

<Select Secondary Role>

Top ◄ Mid Jungle Support

And then the system matches you with 4 other players with similar MMR in either your most preferred role, or your second most preferred role. As you load into the Lobby it explicitly informs you of what role you were given. In the lobby below each person's name, they also have a symbol/tag indicating what role they are playing.

No issues whatsoever.

uhhh, right from the get go, Riot said that teambuilder was only ever going to be normals first.

HOWEVER: They are working on doing EXACTLY what you're asking for a ranked version of teambuilder.

Team Builder is great if you want to practice with a specific champion, but really it was designed to replace blind pick as a less frustrating normal game experience.

Yes, you can end up in a team where you don't like the composition, but Team Builder lets you just leave that team and search for another one that better matches your needs.

The main problems with Team Builder are the long queue times and the lack of bans meaning that you will be against the champions that you most hate in nearly every game.

Riot are currently working on Team Builder Draft, which will be very similar to the system you describe (queue up for a primary and secondary role and be assigned to a team in one of those roles.)

This new Team Builder Draft will probably make it to the live servers some time late this year (no promises, this is just the impression I've got from Riot's posts), though it won't be enabled for ranked until season 6, because vastly changing the way that ranked works mid-season would probably be a very bad idea.

If you want more information about Team Builder Draft, I recommend reading Lyte's askfm replies, he's posted lots of Team Builder Draft-related information there.

Teambuilder has 1 fundamental issue: you have to pick a champ be4 joining to your team. So that means you not just random your enemies like u do in Blind pick but u also random your own team which is really a rookie mistake from Riot's side.

This is the most terrible part indeed if only i had gotten a dollar every time i tried kicking myself in the head cause i have a jungler thats good with the team im put in

but thats to late now... Wel than id own every skin in game by now!

but counterpicking is huge in this game and making it blind just takes away to much of the game

cureently teambuilder is perfect for people who are like im gonne play riven top lane and nothing else no matter what

The idea of people only having to learn 1role isnt bad do if i really like jungling or suporting yet arent the grwatest last hitter i dont see why i should be forced to play adc

especialy for beginners its nice to practise one thing at the time

on the other hand even if your for example good top/mid lane you should stil atleast know how to play jg cause youl get basic understanding on how to make his game easier stuf and make it harder for the ebemy jg

It's for people who really want to play a certain champion and a certain role. They don't use it though, they go in blind pick so 3 people can lock mid. It's flawed because it is supposed to be about building a team. Supports rarely use it because they don't know who they're going to end up supporting, and that's a big park of picking for that role. Jungler is also a role that usually fills out whatever the team is lacking or needs to make it more solid.

This is why I believe we're always waiting forever for supports and junglers.

I feel like the reason we are always waiting for supports is because very few players actually like supporting. When Team Builder came out the only role people only really wanna play and can finally get 100% of the time is Mid, which is also why it takes 10+ years to queue up solo in TB as a mid laner. I, myself play support, but sometimes even we supports get the bloodlust
