Q recast time reduced; stun duration shorter if recast quickly, longer for big stars.
It's about time Sol got a real reason to make a big star.
It's about time Sol got a real reason to make a big star.
I don’t play him but I was really happy to hear about this change. And I’m excited for big ole aoe stuns.
I like the change, but giving one of the least interactive champs in the game more tools to just cuck whoever tries to fight with him (talking about the reduced cast time) is kinda risky. I mean, we are talking about a champ whose entire playstyle consists on shoving the wave and camping bot. You cant jump on him in lane because the lane is shoved and he has stupid dps the first levels, and jumping on him outside of lane usually results in him just ulting you and running away. Even if his ult isnt enough or he has it down, good luck bursting a 3k hp 100+ armor "mage" with zhonyas and permaslow before his teammates arrive. And then you tell me he is gonna have another stun just in case.
May need future nerfs or changes to his playstyle to compensate.
Least interactive? All he does is interact. He's like the most well designed champion in the last 2 years, that's why he's so bad.
He's actually non-interactive if he wants to, he can shove waves easily (especially lvl 1-3) and roam.
Also his damage is low-interactive, he mostly just moves around to deal it.
Non interactive? Roaming is interaction. Plus asol has one of the highest mana usage rates in game and gets hopped on if he isn’t careful. Non interactive champs would be like veigar or Nasus where all they do is power farm in order to become a nightmare to deal with.
Not to mention that all the earlier Q recast time provides is the ability to MAYBE survive against an all in from some assassins.
Perhaps he should die to an all-in if he gets caught alone and has ult down?
Just sayin.
So level 1-5 he should have no disengage option as a midrange mage while Xerath and Vel’Koz and every other longer range mage has a get off me tool on a basic ability?
If someone engages on you as Aurelion before level 4 you just kill him rofl.
Level 4 and 5 you already have E so you dont need to stay in lane. Even if you do I doubt many champions can outtrade you anyway so my first point still applies. It depends on the matchup I guess.
O_o? So at level 4 when Camille wall hops to you from two screens away to where your prebuff Q can’t hit her nor can your extended stars you just... kill her?
Why did you choose level 4 tho, when I told you level 4 you can be roaming already? Im not an Aurelion main so I dont know all the matchups.
But level 2 or 3 im pretty sure you kill her or at least out-trade her depending on how hard she wants to commit.
If I were to guess level 4 depends on her hitting both W and E. For the sake of the discussion lets assume that: 1- You are unable to roam because your botlane is trash. 2- She is high enough hp to all in you after being bullied the first 3 levels. 3- You stay inside her E range knowing she can kill you. 4- Your jungler isnt near. 5- She hits both abilities. So what? God forbid you can actually die during 2 levels in the entire game amirite? She knew her powerspikes better than you and outplayed you. Thats it.
Unless you are talking about Camille jungle. In which case just avoid getting ganked.
Basicly, you can not by any means outtrade Camille as A.Sol pre 6, assuming her E is up. Your Q won't hit her, your stars won't hit her, so all you can do is run away as she kills you or helplessly hoop her face with autos.
Edit: I'll also reply to your earlier comment here. "Perhaps he should die to an all-in if he gets caught alone and has ult down?" Dude. His ult has an ult like cooldown. Enemy all-in rarely are that ult reliant. For exemple, Zed, Camille, Yasuo, Zed, Talon, Zed, Irelia or Zed can just mash your face in as you have no option of retaliation. Having the ability to survive against Zed, Camille or whoever is right in his face is kinda important.

If you are holding a clown fiesta, yes.
If you are playing half-decently they shouldnt be able to all-in you more than once at least each 90 seconds.
Well, 90 seconds its just a random number pulled out of my ass. What Im trying to say is that if you stay alone in an assassins kill range without ult as Asol you just suck. Summoners rift isnt nexus blitz.
I mean, I know I suck at Sol, I gave up quite early and went back to playing Heimer. I still experienced Zed bashing my face in constantly. Also, I doubt that assassins can't go in more often than once every 90 seconds, unless you don't farm at all. It's kinda what they are made for. Getting on your face, smashing it and escaping.
He has a high skill floor and you are not supposed to stay in lane with him. Later on you will be hugging your teammates most of the time.
So you arent really playing against an assassin. You are just shoving and roaming. Thats what im complaining about. But in case the assassin tries to catch you off-guard once every 90 seconds you just ult him.
Think of it this way, assuming games last 30 minutes and a fed assassin usually ends the game with 15 or so kills (best case scenario), thats a kill every 2 minutes. Thats more time than Aurelions ult cd. Due to backing, rotations, towers, grouping, summoners etc. assassins cant be making all ins every 20 seconds. Its just the pace of the game.
Ofc if you stay in lane after shoving without ult as a mage (almost any mage really) and the assassin has all his abilities up you are gonna die, but Im not even considering that scenario because thats just some bronze level midlane right there.
I honestly have no clue what champion you're talking about though. You're talking about this god tier mage that demolishes anyone who gets in range of him.
That just isn't who Sol is. If someone is on top of him, he's screwed. The buff to instacast Q isn't gonna make him suddenly oneshot the person who jumped on him either. He has absolutely no burst damage outside his ult's decent burst.
No, he has no burst until 6, thats correct.
What he has tho is probably the best level 1 to 3 ranged DPS in the game due to passive combined with auto attacks. Plus minions. Plus his ability to innately shove wave.
So... I dont know, perhaps you dont know how Asol plays in lane? I dont want to sound condescending but thats the only explanation Im able to find to your response. I just dont see how burst damage has anything to do with this. Asol levels up W first. He starts corrupting potion. He takes ghost or exhaust. As soon as the minions arrive he goes to one side of the lane, activates W and starts shoving wave. If you jump on him he just pops his corrupting pot and kites keeping W activated while you eat minion aggro. Once you decide to turn back (because you arent gonna kill anyone before level 6 in one rotation) and enter his outer limit he pops his summoner and continues to auto you while you keep being hit by stars and minions. He either outrades you or kills you depending on how much you have overextended.
I dont know what else to say, he hits you until you die, it just happens. Ofc he isnt gonna burst you at level 3. In fact thats exactly the reason he is so good early game, no one bursts at that stage of the game, while he has one the best early DPS abilities.
Even if the trade ends up being even you are going to lose to him anyway because the lane is likely to be pushed against you so you will lose minions to turret.
Once he has E tho (level 3) he doesnt need to kill you, he just shoves and roams. Because his waveclear early game is better, again because he has one of the best early DPS abilities. And it is AoE. Thats why im saying he is uninteractive. Its not that he has insane kill potential or that he is broken. Its simply that he completely nullifies other champs kill potential during the whole game. Giving him another stun isnt gonna make it healthier.
This buff alone isn't going to make him all that much better. Anyone who has played him will tell you he is, if anything, possibly the least, mobile mage in the game. He can't use E in combat because it triggers a CD upon combat, and he is extremely vulnerable to all-in tactics. Flash is mandatory on him because his mobility in combat is non-existent outside of Flash.
Asol levels up W first. He starts corrupting potion. He takes ghost or exhaust.
No sane Asol is going to take Ghost or Exhaust, those are both horrible choices for him.
He takes flash+ghost/ignite/exhaust.
Okay, so lets say he takes ignite instead. Even bigger kill pressure.
He doesnt need to be mobile in combat to do his thing, which is shoving and ganking.
Mid lane ain't that damn long lmfao. He clears at near the edge of the side bush, that's already far up. He can't push any further than that cuz that's just common sense danger territory especially for an immobile champion.
So he's popping ghost to chase you all of 2 feet to your turret? What?
His waveclear isn't even that good. It takes several star hits to clear them all. It's not like he just instaclears and leaves. He is vulnerable while he's doing this. Especially considering how far up he has to move to do it properly.
Ofc he isnt going to pop ghost if you havent chased him before. But if you arent gonna do an all in you arent gonna jump on him either because he is gonna outtrade you.
He clears better than any lvl 1 and 2 midlaner.
Minions aren't part of his dps, that's minion damage and can apply to anyone, thus it applies to nobody when calculating what they have that is unique in and part of their kit.
True, but it is a fact that you cant all in him as easily as a melee as many would make it sound because he out-trades you, partly due to minions.
Its one of the innate advantages of being ranged and thus it should be considered when talking about a melee vs ranged matchup. What happens in a vacuum doesnt matter because the game isnt a vacuum and we are discussing gameplay.
If you're oblivious to the damage minions can deal and walk into his wave of minions without being very ahead you deserve to lose the trade though, that's just all on you. Minions are the same for everyone, it's not part of Sol's kit it's not part of his damage. I agree that the game isn't a vacuum, and junglers exist. It's also very possible to play someone like Brand into Aurelion Sol where you can poke from about equal range and stun Sol as well, completely negating any damage from his passive. There are also junglers, and if the jungler is a Xin or Evelynn the Sol might as well not leave his tower because if he does he's going to get clapped. It's a fact that Sol really can't do anything to anyone inside his inner passive orbit, and early on while he has some of the highest DPS most people can just walk away and not die because it's DPS and not burst. If Aurelion blows his summoners to attempt to kill you early on, then gank him as soon as he tries to push the wave, it's that simple. He has no ghost to run away at that point, so it's very easy to just kill him before he can get away. If nothing else just take exhaust and stop whining about his damage early and just get your jungler to camp. You yourself said he innately pushes the lane, so use it against him. If he's pushing then he's overextended, which means free ganks.
I just give up, dude. It seems no one is even trying to read what I say.
Who gives a shit about Aurelions burst and killing potential. He isnt an assassin. You dont pick him to duel the other midlaner. When people understand that I might continue the discussion.
This is about how Aurelion would out duel anyone that jumped on him by popping ghost after they turned to walk away after the all in and leave them low enough they have to recall or simply kill them pre 6.
This is about how Aurelion will push you into tower early game and go camp botlane. He only out duels you if you jump on him, not if you play safe doing whatever. But to stop him from shoving you have to jump on him. Its a win-win scenario for him.
So, under that premise lets see your arguments again:
If you're oblivious to the damage minions can deal and walk into his wave of minions without being very ahead you deserve to lose the trade though, that's just all on you. Minions are the same for everyone, it's not part of Sol's kit it's not part of his damage.
Doesnt matter because if you dont all-in him he will shove you in.
It's also very possible to play someone like Brand into Aurelion Sol where you can poke from about equal range
Doesnt matter because he will shove you in anyway.
It's a fact that Sol really can't do anything to anyone inside his inner passive orbit, and early on while he has some of the highest DPS most people can just walk away and not die because it's DPS and not burst.
Doesnt matter because he will shove you in anyway.
If Aurelion blows his summoners to attempt to kill you early on, then gank him as soon as he tries to push the wave, it's that simple. He has no ghost to run away at that point, so it's very easy to just kill him before he can get away.
Doesnt matter because if he blows his summoners its because you are dead.
If nothing else just take exhaust and stop whining about his damage early
Doesnt matter unless you plan on stop him from shoving with exhaust. In which case its just a stupid plan that doesnt make any sense.
You yourself said he innately pushes the lane, so use it against him. If he's pushing then he's overextended, which means free ganks.
Doesnt matter because he will be botlane.
There are also junglers, and if the jungler is a Xin or Evelynn the Sol might as well not leave his tower because if he does he's going to get clapped.
This kinda matters but camp any champion and you cuck him so its not really a meaningful argument. And if Aurelion plays safe you will be wasting time for nothing while the other jungler actually snowballs the game.
You dont see how annoying Aurelion can be because you dont understand he doesnt stay in lane farming and/or poking you like a Karthus or a Syndra. He just shoves you in, ignores you and goes bot. And you cant do anything about it. But you people keep repeating "bUrST" and "pOKe" like headless chickens when no one gives a fuck about that. He is most similar to Malzahar, which is another cancer champ. And this is coming from a player who loves to spam Malzahar midlane to make the other laner feel miserable. Can you all-in Malzahar to try to prevent him from pushing? Sure, you will end up dead. You dont want to all-in him? You clearly wont die as Malzahar doesnt have insane burst, but you will be playing farming simulator under tower while Malz actually gets to play the game.
Getting back to Aurelion, level 1 and 2 your midlaner wont have his spells to trade and the jungler will still be doing buffs, so you cant really touch him there either.
And later in the game Aurelion will be tanky as a mofo and he will have ult and zhonya, but curiously no one wants to talk about that. No, better continue insisting on the only 2 levels in the game (level 4 and 5, maybe 3 too depending on the matchup) when other laners can (maybe) do something against him. Even if they could and I were wrong it so small of an opportunity it doesnt matter. Yes, it may be worth discussing but its getting all the attention when its relatively insignificant. Its just the classic boards mage bias clutching at the last straw, and its tiring.
Ah yes, quality arguments: "Doesn't matter because x." You must be a God-tier intellectual titan. Were you not the one who said that this isn't a vacuum? Junglers exist, if he shoves the lane your jungler should be camping. If you all in him with someone that is faster than he is, perhaps by taking exhaust/ghost, or if you play someone that can stun him and then get in or out of his range, effectively trading without letting him get his dps off, then you're gonna be fine. You've just got to be smart and counterpick, don't play someone that sucks into half the midlaners and expect to do well. Mordekaiser can easily go and all in Malzahar, and I've gotten shat on by a half decent Brand/Diana/Zed/Fizz every time I played Sol. You sound more like you just had a bad game and never learned to play against him. If he's not mid then take the tower or an objective, if he is mid then jungler ganks and ccs him and it's gucci. Get gud kid.
Lol get silver hard-suck making these shitty excuses while Im getting real lp gains.
You are just delusional.
lmao yep, I got you good. If the excuses were shitty you'd have refuted them, and if you gained any real LP you'd know they're pretty factual. I'm not delusional, you're just butthurt. Have a great day man, and don't lower yourself to insulting and holding grudges against people just because they beat you in a civil argument.
I mean the meta is crazy damage and asol has a issue with people getting inside his stars and bursting him. Many, many champs including the meta assassins have ways to get in those stars the q recast was very needed but idk about the other part, it actually stuns for a shorter time at normal range so a typical trade with asol is actually easier than before if you can’t get in his stars
You tell me how being out of lane all game and showing up botlane when you feel like it is giving opportunity to interact.
You tell me how an immobile melee champ running at you in a straight line is preventing you from interacting with him.
Getting shoved in with 0 ways to respond is not interactive. If you don't get a counterpick into Asol you get 0 say in the game. It's all about if asol is successful or not on his roams because you certainty can't match them since you'll be struggling to shove the wave back under your tower.
Thank god, someone who gets it.
These boards I swear, 40 responses and not a single one adressing the issue.
And you move around to completely negate his entire DPS. Interactive.
interactive adjective (of two people or things) influencing or having an effect on each other.
What could possibly be more interactive than an ability that forces permanent interaction via movement of both players?
You dont because you are permaslowed and he has more movespeed than you. If you jump away he still does his thing (he probably didnt want to fight you in the first place), if you jump on him he ults you and you are back to square 1, except this time your gapcloser is on cd.
"Permaslowed" yeah once he has a Rylai's which Sol builds as his 2nd item (around 18 mins on average).
Are you telling me that 18 minutes in you have absolutely no answer to this? It's only a 20% slow too, that's on the weaker side as far as slows go.
And you can't tell me that most midlaners don't have an answer to him.
Here's a list of mid champions that counter him or go even (in order of worst to even MU's):
Malzahar Vel'Koz Xerath Zilean Katarina Ahri Kassadin Ekko Lissandra Cassiopeia Annie Irelia Zed Yasuo Aatrox Anivia Galio Twisted Fate Diana Talon Ziggs Zoe Fizz Lux Karthus LeBlanc Swain
Here's the list of mid champs he counters:
Ryze Viktor Orianna Akali Vladimir Malphite Veigar Jayce Brand Azir Neeko Urgot
What an oppressive champion.
Ill give you this one, but he still has more MS than you and his ult negates your gapcloser.
His ult and Q are enough to keep you CCd for 3 seconds tho.
You need to cc him or get inside his stars. when he’s cced celestial expansion goes on a 4-6 cd and if u get in his stars pre 6 he either runs away, flashes, or dies. Asol against cc has incredibly hard times putting out damage so take cc or dash champs into him or accept that you need to respect the damage otherwise.
Sure but you need: 1- A 600+ range gapcloser. 2- Enough burst to kill a 3k hp 100 armor dude before he ults you. 3- CC that isnt telegraphed or he will just zhonyas it. 4- Catching him alone and out of lane. 5- Praying that it isnt lategame or he will have a banshee. Luckily his damage kinda falls off but still.
Easier said than done.
Sure if you cc him in the middle of a teamfight (or if you force his zhonyas) you cripple his DPS (he can still ult tho but whatever), but forget to kill him or do anything to him at all prior to that stage of the game. Best case scenario god will answer your prayers so that your botlane doesnt feed to his ganks and you can sit back and relax afk farming.
Its like playing against Malzahar, except Malz just taxes you with the QSS. Aurelion gets to sit on another lane all game and his ult is better peel than Malz's.
You clearly have never played asol as is apparent from every comment you’ve made on this thread
I swear. It's impossible to discuss him with someone that hasn't actually played games as him.
He makes it sound like Sol is some invincible powerhouse that eviscerates anyone who comes within 600 range of him when in reality almost the exact opposite is true. The guy pops like a balloon. That's why he has to build so many damn health and utility items to mitigate this.
No, I have actually played as Asol but I suck at it, as everyone commenting on this thread does. I actually was hyped with his champion release but ended giving up on learning him because he has one of the pussiest playstyles I swear.
The difference is that I have actually encountered good Asols and even if he seems this well designed inoffensive utility mage he is just a completely ret*rded safe pick.
I wouldnt say he is invincible or that he is broken, its just that he cant fuck up. Its like Malzahar. He just shoves the wave time and again and you cant do shit against it. The midlaner ends up playing pvm, and the botlane, gangbang simulator.
Im kinda fine with him as he is but giving him another stun perhaps will be too much.
He literally HAS to stand in that exact spot to clear efficiently. It uses up so much mana even then. Screwing it up makes it take almost twice as much mana.
Also, I've had games decided by ASol's (plenty of em up in D1 territory). Even they are nowhere near as abusive as you make them out to be. The only thing scary about them is the constant roams. Their solo kill potential? Like, negative 0, nonexistant. Half the reason they roam so much is cuz they don't have the tools to do anything to their opposing laner past level 1. There's just no reason to be there when you're a champion that relies on allies being the buffer between you and the enemy.
Im tired of repeating it. Its not his damage potential. Its not his kill potential. Its not his burst. I even said in another answer that he sucks 1v1, its true.
The problem I have with him is the ease he has to avoid fights. Thats why I say he is uninteractive. Not overpowered.
Hell, even if he is underpowered, im just saying his playstyle isnt healthy and this buff is just pushing it further. It doesnt have anything to do with being scary or not.
Unhealthy? A lot of assassins have lots of escapes AND deal damage. Talon jump, zed shadow, Yasuo windwall, Ekko dash and rewind, the list goes on(they all gank as well). My point is that there are waaaaay unhealthier champs than asol and tbh he has one of the more skill based kits in this game which is why I (silver 4) have only seen a handful of Asols in over two thousand games but see assassins in literally EVERY game.
I agree.
So?
No, I have actually played as Asol but I suck as him, as everyone commenting on this thread does.
Considering there is only a small amount people who main him and do well, who also inflate his WR stats. I will go ahead and say his design, despite being really cool mechanically and aesthetically, sucks bad. It should not come as a surprise most do not perform well with him.
The difference is that I have actually encountered good Asols and even if he seems this well designed inoffensive utility mage **he is just a completely ret*rded safe pick. **
If that were true, then more people would perform better with him. But we can clearly see that is far from the case. His design does not work in this meta, there is no other way to put it.
I wouldnt say he is invincible or that he is broken, its just that he cant fuck up. Its like Malzahar. He just shoves the wave time and again and you cant do shit against it. The midlaner ends up playing pvm, and the botlane, gangbang simulator.
Oh we are aware of this fact, it's no secret to the community.
He’s really not that safe of a pick, he outpushes and outroams most mids early in the game allowing him to apply pressure earlier than most champions mid which I’ll admit is a huge strength, the problem is when pushing he puts himself in harms way of being killed by a smart Jungler, or in later stages of the lane just getting jumped on by a large cast of mid laners. Assuming he successfully pushes the lane and goes for a roam again he’s putting himself in harms way of the jg, and most of the Meta jg can easily solo kill him if they’re keeping track of what he’s doing. Not too mention his cds are really high, even the recast on his w, if hes ccd out of it, is 4 seconds which means asol is doing next to no damage. And on this notion of interactivity, I’m gonna need you to define that because the way his dps works is similar to an adc with asol working to keep his “auto spacing” from his intended target except you can dodge his stars but you can’t dodge an auto attack.
