I'm wondering if Karthus shouldn't get an HP Armor and MR buff.

Maybe it's just been awhile since I played him, but I kind of feel like for someone who WANTS to hold people inside close range for prolonged periods of time during combat, he could be a bit more naturally bulky.

There's a certain degree to which I agree, but then again he's a late-game powerhouse who builds item 3027 item 3116 item 3151 with possible additional dips into item 3157 item 3165 item 3102, so I don't think a buff to his tank stats would be appropriate.
