I actually think patch 7.9 kills Taliyah yet again

I am sorry for what is coming towards you now. It took me roughly 2 hours writing, changing things and testing a lot to finish this. So I'd appreciate if you read it completely or at least try to get yourself into it a bit and tell me what you think.

https://i.gyazo.com/6b785c84f33b454cd9c55e8605feea42.png

now you can't even build GA on Taliyah anymore, without spending gold for unnecessary stats, which means you can't defend yourself against bursts as Taliyah anymore (and other mages ofc)

Not to forget the new item https://i.gyazo.com/1af73e4b10b53a3ce844646b6ae643e3.png Holy shit this seems so strong. The unique passive takes away ALOT of Taliyahs strengths. Just build the new item and see Taliyah dealing almost no damage anymore. Q: MINIMUM MAGIC DAMAGE: 70 / 95 / 120 / 145 / 170 (+ 45% AP) Shoots 5 Rocks, targets hit by a Stone Shard take 60% less damage from subsequent shards. Which means that the first hit on Q level 5 deals 170 + 45% AP damage and after that the next 4 shots deal only 25% damage.

Let's do math for a second here. Taliyah with 500 Ap, this is often more or less her total AP number at the end of the game. First hit: 170 + 225 (500 x 0,45AP) = 395 Second to fifth hit: (170 + 225)/100x25 --- or 395 divided by 100 times 25 to get the 25% damage is 98,75 damage. 1 Q can deal 395 + (4x98,75) = 790 damage if you hit the same target with all stones, which isn't too easy to begin with. Didn't take MR into account.

As if this wasn't enough, her low Q cooldown now makes this extra bad for her as the damage of your next q starts with 15% off if you use it right after. So you start with 335,75 damage on the next Q you use within 4 seconds. Which means hitting all 5 rocks with the next Q on the target only deals 729,25 damage. Not taking MR into account.

2 Q's within 5 seconds deal 1519,25 damage alltogether. WELL THIS MIGHT SOUND MUCH, but this really is not. Because now starts the fun shit. Magic resist I do not care about tanks on this one, because it is impossible to kill them as Taliyah anyway. Since all range champion got MR per level this patch (0,5% MR per level) makes it even more fun.

Orianna: MAGIC RESIST. 38.5 MR and 1861 HP at level 18 without bonusses

One of the most played midlaners right now. I know, the item is aimed to be for tanks, but there were enough meta changing occasions in the past with champion abusing several items.

Let's begin: Imagine you have you as Taliyah and an AP jungler, leaving your adc being the only ad on the team. This happens and it's really easy punished, while a full ad team doesn't have that many problems since they have so many different possibilities.

Imagine your enemy midlaner (in that case Orianna) building the new banshee and Adaptive Helm. Having a total of 38,5 + 45 (Banshee) + 55 (Adaptive Helm) + usually 12 MR runes. A grant total of 150,5 MR 150 MR = 60% less AP damage.

But hey, I still have void staff and magic penetration right? Well, yes.

I take 7,8% Magic penetration runes, and 6 Magic penetration masteries Building item 3020 and item 3151 offer 30 magic pen too So? 36 flat Magic penetration and 7,8%

150,5 MR - 42.2% AP = 87 MR 87 - 36 flat = 51 51 MR reduces 34% damage

Now let's get back to the Q damage. Remember the first Q deals 790 damage if you hit all 5 rocks. 790/100x66 = 521,4 damage The second Q deals 729,25 damage 729,25/100x66 = 481,31 damage a grant total of 1002,71 damage within 5 seconds using 2 q's hitting ALL 10 rocks.

But that's not all of Taliyahs damage.

W: MAGIC DAMAGE: 60 / 80 / 100 / 120 / 140 (+ 40% AP) Now, luckily the W damage will not be lowered by the Adaptive Helm passive

140 + (500 x 0,40AP) = 340 damage Don't forget the enemy has 150 MR so they receive 60% less 340/100*66 = 224,4 damage

And she still got her E spell. The most messed up spell of hers.

Enemies who dash over or are knocked through Unraveled Earth's boulders cause them to detonate instantly, each dealing them 50% of Unraveled Earth's initial damage and dealing 15% less damage per boulder hit down to a minimum of 55% damage, up to a maximum of 4 boulders per enemy.

Now, this really is no fun to calculate but it is necessary.

E: MAGIC DAMAGE: 70 / 90 / 110 / 130 / 150 (+ 40% AP) 150 + (500 x 0,40AP) = 350

they still got 34 mr

350/100x66 = 231

Initial damage of 231 damage

When I use my W to knock them through the minefield and they get hit by 4 boulders. First boulder deals 231 damage second boulder deals 196,35 damage third boulder deals 167 damage fourth boulder deals 141,86 damage

getting a grant total of 736,21 damage when knocked through.

"At the end of their duration, all remaining boulders explode, dealing Unraveled Earth's initial damage once more."

Imagining they stand on the E when it explodes, dealing 231 damage again

231x2 (initial cast and explosion) + 736.21 damage = 1198,21 damage from E spell

Let's get it all together at last. casting 2 Q, hitting all rocks (which is REALLY unlikely) casting W to knock them through the E 1002,71 + 224,4 + 1198,21 = 2425,32 damage Now this would be enough to kill an Orianna with 150 mr with no HP bonusses, but taking into account that the Adaptive Helm offers a 300 HP bonus and she might build liandry, rylais, this won't be enough to deal with her.

Yes, Orianna would lose A TON of damage when building Adaptive Helm, but against 2 ap, there will be times this happens and keep in mind, Orianna can still build 3 Ap items to deal a good amount of damage.

Also that is only the damage I can deal AT MAX. There are shields, heals and it is really hard to first of all hit all 10 rocks in a row and with orianna's movementspeed, it is not easy to hit W either.

There are other things like the 2% more ability damage mastery, double edges sword mastery, thunderlords and the banshee shield of course and other stuff I didn't take into account, but that calculation above should offer a good insight already.

Do you think I'm over exaggerating? I honestly don't think so. There will be times this actually happens and Taliyah already felt clunky enough, so I'm not sure how I as a OTP or even someone that occassionally plays Taliyah will react to an Orianna or other midlaner building AH.

Now, I actually didn't want to drag this even further so I won't do the math for this, but just imagine a Yasou or any bruiser building Adaptive Helm and maybe Maw and MR boots.

I don't think I can have fun against people building Adaptive Helm, playing as Taliyah.

taliyah's win rate is already strong anyway, nerfing her a bit is fine

but that is not the point of what i want to stay the point is that taliyah IS NOT THE ONLY mage nerfed with mr/lvl, every single magic damage dealer is nerfed with this, and since there is one in each team this does not reduce your ability to win a game since the opposite team is also crippled

Funny thing is that i have a sol main friend, and when i asked him about adaptive helm he told me "idc about tanks" mages are not supposed to kill tanks in anyway, and tanks are having their damage reduced anyway so you don't care about them and they don't care about you

Who is Taliyah2 votes

Well Taliyah's winrate is at ~49% I don't think that is "strong". it is okish, at most.

The main point of this post was about Adaptive Helm and yes, I don't really care about tanks building it either, because Tanks are mage counters. What's bothering me is that mages can build it and counter Taliyah with it. I already did the math above and explained why this item is particularly strong against Taliyah. It's a big text so I will tell you again. Taliyah has 3 damaging abilities. 2 of which deal more damage the more parts of the ability you hit. As Adaptive Helm reduces damage from subsequent hits, it will reduce her damage of Q and E alot.

Mages are hit pretty hard in this patch, that's easy to see, but I think Taliyah is one of the mages that is hit the hardest by AH.

you're right, she used to have 52% win rate 1 month ago tho in diamond+ http://www.leagueofgraphs.com/champions/stats/taliyah/diamond

but eitherway if mages end up buying it then it's up to riot to fixe that

Mages or ADC's building Adaptive helm would probably be considered an abuse case, and the item would be rebalanced accordingly.

Let's assume it will atleast...

Who is Taliyah1 votes

Well that is true. The item has been out for a few hours only so we will have to wait :/ It just feels better to already think about cases that can happen in the future.

Adaptive helm is really strong, they need to do something about that item and also the new rift herald buff lmao like wtf.. half hp a turret one shot.. jesus christ lmao whoever wins lane wins the game basically. I dont mind the GA rework, since Riot doesnt like people building GA and Zhonya. And the fact GA only has 30armor basically means that most fighter class wont buy it.

That's not have damage reductions are calculated damage reductions are calcularted multiplicatively

So it will be 0.4 (60% reduction) X 0.85 (15% redcution) = 0.34 So it gets reduced down to 34% of the original damage (66% reduced damage) not 25%

it makes sense for damage reductions to be calculated multiplicatively as you will never get to 0 (100% damage reduction) no matter what you multiply as long as you don't have something which spesifically gives 100% damage reduction Also damage reduction is more powerful the more of it you have

50% damage reduction ---> it will take 2 times as much damage to kill you 75% damage reduction ---> it will take 4 times as much damage to kill you 87.5% damage reduction ---> it will take 8 times as much damage to kill you 98% damage reduction ---> it will take 50 times as much damage to kill you 99% damage reduction ---> it will take 100 times as much damage to kill you

98% to 99% is just 1% increase but it makes such a huge difference... though on the other hand going from 0% to 1% damage reduction doesn't do much at all

Who is Taliyah1 votes

Hmm I didn't think of that. Is that right? Well even if that is right, it will still decrease the damage by a good amount.

Champion Skin1 votes

Well yes that is kind of what the item is supposed to do... well if it is too strong or not we will see

And not like I think many champions outside of tanks are every going to build it

Who is Taliyah1 votes

Well I had an enemy Renekton yesterday building full MR against lissandra top and me mid. I think he would have been even more happy if he could have built AH yesterday already^^

Yaśuo Main1 votes

Why would Yasuo build Adaptive Helmet with Maw and MR Boots? That's so dumb, even without Maw and Mercury Treads. Please stop putting in Yasuo for some example of the abuse of an item, no god damn Yasuo needs that much MR and/or makes use of Adaptive Helmet.

Who is Taliyah1 votes

It's just a possibility. I have seen much sh*t in the years playing the game, just recently I saw an AP gnar with gunblade carrying hard. It wouldn't surprise me to see a yasou, riven, or anything else with AH and other shit.

On the plus side, Taliyah can now use the new Banshee's Veil quite well. Juicy, juicy spell shield.
