PSA: Having a bad KDA does not invalidate what I am saying

YumaS2Astral··10 votes·1,200 views

I just had a game where I was 3/8 - my KDA wasn't even that bad, given I had 15 assists, but the Tristana on my team only paid attention to the 3 kills and 8 deaths I had as Malzahar - I said her to buy a item 3036 because the enemy team had so much armor and she would need this item to deal significantly more damage to them. However she started to insult me and say that I was wrong because I was 3/8 and she was 13/14 (to be honest, 13/14 is actually a worse KDA because everytime you kill someone, you reset your gold value - I died so many times with so few kills that I wasn't worth any gold, but Tristana was actually worth a lot of gold for the enemy team) We still won because we managed to focus their carries and push.

However, I don't understand why people use KDA as an argument, since it has literally nothing to do with what I say - I may have 14 kills and 3 deaths and still be giving the wrong advices, and I may have 2 kills and 9 deaths but I am still giving the correct advices, but people won't listen me because I don't have 14 kills and 3 deaths, but 2 kills and 9 deaths.

By the way, on the same game above, Tristana was also insulting me calling me a "gold scrub" (even though I am actually a Diamond V player) - I don't understand what my elo actually has to do with me saying to Tristana that she needs to buy armor penetration items. Every high ranked player knows that unless there is only one or no champions stacking armor, it may be better to buy armor penetration, to ensure that you deal the most damage possible to enemies. On the afoermentioned game, there were THREE enemy champions stacking armor: Lee Sin, Nasus, and Morgana.

I even avoided saying my elo because I knew that not only Tristana would not believe me, even if she indeed believed me, she would not listen me regardless, or she would probably say that I was boosted (yet another fallacy; just because I played poorly in one game, despite being high elo, does not mean I am boosted)

I would like to understand why people use those two fallacies, the KDA fallacy and the rank/elo fallacy. There are better arguments you can use when you don't want to listen to someone's advice, but using their KDA or their elo is just an insult. It is like saying that what I am saying is wrong because I am not rich, I am poor.

People use rank and kda as an argument when they are ignorant and stubborn or just don't have a real counterclaim

Silver 5 saying rank doesn't matter... makes sense.

I am a Diamond V player, and he is right, rank doesn't matter.

PS: I am a Diamond V player on the aforementioned account on the link. This account I am using is just a low level smurf that I use to post on the NA forums (as my actual account is on another server)

Anyone can claim to be a Diamond player on a smurf tho

So if a silver 5 tells you to build a last whisper because the enemy team is stacking armor and you're the adc, it automatically doesn't matter because they're silver 5? Rank and kda have NO effect on advice if the advice is good. You look at the advice to see if it is good, not the rank or their kda. So yes, rank doesn't matter in this. Grow up kid.

The moment I need a silver 5 advice for this game will be the moment I retire.

Then go retire bud. You're not much better than silver XD

Only play about 20 ranked games a season bud. and all of those are to help bronzes leave silver. I repeatedly carry my plat friends when i play w/ them...and oh yes...they are playing their mains. Grow up kid. Rank isn't everything. If your boss was silver 4 and has been for 3 seasons and he gives you advice i guess its automatic trash then. see how well that attitude gets you in life. Honestly just grow up. freaking 12 year olds. And the fact that you get carried in all of your ranked games...means you don't really belong in gold. Did you get boosted there XD

Just because a neonazi says the sky is blue, does not make the sky orange. You should evaluate criticism or ideas independently from their sources.

It's a reason to dismiss what someone else has to say. If you are "negative" obviously you're garbage, so any advice you have is also garbage. But sometimes being positive doesn't work out either, because you just think you're hot shit just because you're doing good one game and got lucky. You get my drift. Trist would probably have ignored you anyway.

P.S. is your name a ZeXal reference?

Yes

I've never actually watched ZeXal. However, I've watched DM and GX, and I play the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG

Some people just don't want to acknowledge that they have things to improve on, looking for excuses to preserve their over-sized egos.

sometimes people have no point to argue with you ,they just use your KDA to insult you and for some reason it makes them feel good . weird people !

Dracocrash1 votes

just a quick moral question :

Would you use rank/kda to counter argue someone if they keep insulting you by calling you braindead, or other similar insults?

Leetri3 votes

I would just mute them, because they're clearly not worth my time if all they can do is spew insults.

The only time KDA is an argument is when you're telling someone how they should be playing, and in very situations is the response even relevant. Like for example, I am playing mid lane and going 4/0/4 and die once, the 0/4/2 ADC says I need to be more careful. They still aren't wrong though because it's very possible I WASN'T being careful, so even then KDA isn't an effective argument. Now, if they said I was feeding, THAT is the only time KDA can be brought up to counter someone.

Overall people just mention KDA to feel better, and it has nothing to do with actual game knowledge because I've known to build item 3123 against Vlad and Mundo on games where I was 12/2/4 and on games where I was 4/12/2. At best KDA can only be brought up for the sake of disagreements on positioning.

Hint, unsolicited advice in gaming is often given immediately following a mistake when someone is already pissed off and will not be receptive to it. Keep your damn mouth shut basically or you will make it worse 9 times out of 10.

Youre mid you shouldnt die 8 times no excuse lmfao

And from your kda you most likely throw down a pool that hit a few people and die instantly right after right? Useless

The above example was not using KDA as an argument. It cited your KD ratio. The "A" stands for "Assists", and when you don't factor that in, it ceases to be KDA.

To be fair, I don't think a person who is poor should be giving financial advice to anyone, especially someone who has a steady income. Thinking about it in this context if you are doing pretty bad during a game, you need to have enough situational awareness to realize that it may not be the best time to be giving advice to other players on how to play the game that you are clearly losing at. The situation you are currently in removes a bit of your credibility, because other players only have the current game you are playing to judge your aptitude. They aren't going to take the time to check other factors or how you do in other matches during the middle of the game. tldr: when you are playing badly, you are not currently in a credible position to tell others how to play.
