What's the big idea behind stealth being the way it is now?

Used to be that if I bought pink wards or a oracle sweeper, and I used it where a stealthed person was, I could target them.

Now all I get to do is see some weird red outline, but I can't target them.

So if I don't have any AoE abilities, fuck me I guess. Basically turns stealth into invulnerability.

If I invest the money into a control ward, I should be able to target the person I find with it.

Before stealth was far too binary. Had a pink ward? Stealth was utterly useless. Didn't have a pink ward? Stealth was completely broken.

They've removed that binary "yes/no" kind of interaction by making it so that champions are stealthed regardless. I think it's a good idea because it makes the champion more consistent.

yeah, feels great if you have some ability to use against them.

If you have no AoE ability, its literally invulnerability for them. Akali vs Fiddlesticks for example.

Akali basically gets invulnerability for her entire shroud duration unless fiddle hit her with his W before she stealthed.

I'm not saying anything else about the matchup, just trying to give an example. I'm sure there's dozens of things that could be said about fiddle vs akali, but that's not my point.

My point is that there is literally nothing you can do to a stealthed target unless you have AoE abilities. Thats garbage.

I can see if you use oracle lens you can't target them. Thats fine. You didn't spend any money on it, so yeah - it shouldn't allow you to fight stealth targets, only see them.

But If I'm investing money in something like a duskblade or control wards, I should be able to point and click stealthed targets.

If you don't have AoE abilities and your enemy has a stealth character then you should stick with your team later in the game. Don't go off on your own. Rely on your team to help expose them. Besides, stealth characters either have camouflage (for long term stealth), momentary bursts of invisibility like Kha'zix' ult or evolved Kai'sa E, or can't do anything else while stealthed (like Teemo's passive). In the past you could just spend a few bucks, shut down every stealth character, now you need to anticipate when they're going to stealth or when they're going to come out of the jungle. Actual planning is necessary rather than, "well they have a kha'zix, better plop a ward down so he can't use his ult around me."

The key difference is between Invisibility and Camouflage.

Camouflaged champions are revealed by anything once you walk into their stealth radius. ( Evelynn Rengar Twitch )

Invis champs cant be seen by anything except towers. ( Teemo Shaco Vayne )

EDIT: True Sight, such as that granted by TF's ult or Lee Sin's q, also reveals invis champs.

It's also easier to balance because the situations around visibility are more consistent since they're (mostly) independant of control wards. Now I could say the exact same thing about healing vs grievous wounds, but that's whole different discussion I don't want to jump into at this point.
