Just to elaborate more on this: This was made just from experience, but looking at several League analytic sites would seem to corroborate this: Tanks top are, okayish in win%, but the lane is won more by annoying poke and bullies, along with splitpushers; Tanks make up a little bit larger of the winning population of the jungle, where they can't get set behind as easily; And finally tank supports are overwhelmingly the biggest winner, making up nearly half of the top 50% of support champions.
Sites looked at were op.gg, which I think is aggregate of diamond+ level from korea as its data points?; lolking's highest winrate champions at various ranks, only one of which
is a tank that goes toplane; and champion.gg looking at top, jungle, and support winrates at platinum+, platinum, and gold.
The numbers get marginally better for tanks in bronze according to champion.gg, with
bumping up a bit and
and
having lower winrates at the lower level of play, but the trend of having a tank in the jungle or support being a better option shows even at the lowest level for which there are stats (No sites for Wood VI unfortunately).
As soon as tanks become the more popular choice for jungle and support, tanks top start losing points dramatically. They only do well when they have nothing on the enemy team to compete with.
