Sion this Preseason

So I'm noticing that with all of these tank items being nerfed yet again, not a single thought is being given to everyone's favorite Lumberjack-not-actually-a-juggernaut-but-still, Sion. Sion was already hurting from W and E nerfs, but these were a knee-jerk response to the terror that was Cinderhulk Sion. It was broken, nobody is arguing that. But then Cinderhulk got nerfed, and suddenly Sion found himself in a tricky spot.

He couldn't bully anybody out of top lane as well as he used to due to E damage and mana cost nerfs, and his W became impossible to use as a damage source for trades conventionally since it could now be destroyed before being able to pop, consistently. His jungle clear was kicked in the dick as well, since it was now way too easy for monsters to break his shield before it could do the damage to them that it's supposed to. And with Cinderhulk now giving nowhere near as much as it used to for Sion, there are other junglers that do his job better, through having better base damages and tankyness to actually clear the jungle early efficiently and just being better gankers. Gragas, Rek'sai, Elise, Lee Sin, so on and so forth.

So what is Sion to do? Sure, the newer jungle can be cleared by anybody now, and Sion is no exception. But Gragas and the other tanks still clear faster and better. So are there any plans at all for Sion?

Revert W nerfs and buff his passive so it's actually useful against plats and diamonds.

Just remove the MS decay when his passive procs. Then it can actually be half as good as Karth's passive.

Interesting passive suggestion. The W revert is a given

At the very least, they could give him a bit more damage scaling. The other tank/fighter champs do more damage than him most of the game, while being far easier to play. Decimating Smash should at least have half the damage scaling of Cho's Rupture, given that it's a harder skill to hit.

The problem though is that he doesn't scale very well with AD to begin with, and there aren't very many AD items that are great on him that supply both offensive and Defensive stats. Cleaver isn't as efficient as it is on other bruisers because most of Sion's damage is magical. Frozen Mallet is pointless, if they are close enough to AA, they are close enough to be hit by E and then Q. Iceborn Gauntlet is outclassed by Deadman's plate(which is getting nerfed, lol). When Sion's rework first came out, he was very much a fighter, being able to bully people out of lane even after the damage nerfs to his E. Now he's a tank that doesn't get much of anything out of building an offensive item first, and building tanky after.

I agree his AD scaling isn't currently good enough to bother investing into.

IBG is actually decent on Sion though, as the Sheen proc really helps with his damage output between spells. It's too bad they'll be getting rid of the AP on it next season, but the 20% CDR will help smooth out his builds, at least for me it will. Perhaps they could buff his E, but give it better late game scaling in return for not being so strong early (since that was the problem apparently). Regardless, his damage needs to be higher if he's going to be a good pick. Unfortunately, good CC alone isn't enough when there are champions with good CC and damage that are picked more (often being more reliable as well).

imo sion needs only one thing

make him immune to CC while using Q (but still takes damage of course)

boom. balanced very fun champion thats fun to play with and against and even fun to watch in competitive

That leaves little to no counterplay to him in Teamfights. This is not the change that I think Riot should be looking to
