What Tyler1 unban tells us about LoL popularity and its current health.

My question is why after banning him almost 2 years did they decided to let him play again ?

Don't think i don't like the guy. I actually enjoy watching his replays.

Well This proves us that League of Legends popularity has decreased a lot !

They needed a publicity stunt to bring back some players and that's what they did with Tyler. Its twitch comeback live stream reached 400'000 viewvers. You like it or not Tyler is a showman and he attracts people to the game. He even said that riot asked him if he wanted to back ? Because the game was apparently loosing a lot of players.

Now they expect they players which came back to keep playing because the gameplay changed. I don't think the big changes were the solution...

what people don't realize even if league of legends lost HALF of it's player base, it would still be a stupidly popular game.

yes but they would loose a lot of money it's like world of warcraft. Blizzard understood they couldn't make something about it so they decided to create new games. Things that riot would never do. Blizzard Is known for quality, each of their games is polished. Riot you only have LOL ...

This is like saying the government released a criminal after 20 years for a publicity stunt.

While I enjoy wasting time on ridiculous conspiracy theories for the helluvit, sometimes the truth is simple. People can change, T1 at least convinced Riot that he may have. They decided on whether or not to unban him, and that's that.

If it was a publicity stunt they would've made a big song and dance about it, and they didn't. The playerbase did.

I suppose Riot decided to do this after the magic bullet that killed JFK created the hole in the ozone layer

Except not and I'm pretty sure he's exaggerating about asking him to come back because that would honestly be the last thing they'd want to do. "Hey, want to make our playerbase radioactive again OH BOY."

If League is in that bad of a state, they wouldn't just bring back some meme-lord like T1 and instead do stuff such as, I don't know, double XP weekends, daily login bonuses apart from just FWotD and, if they're hemorrhaging could always just make URF a more common or even a permanent gamemode (though in the case of the latter would actually be dome fiscally as then few would play ranked or norms ever again when they could just spam Zed for free wins)

Twitch viewers does not represent a game population. There might be people there that don't play anymore or even don't care for it whatsoever and want to watch a monkey dance.

Might have been a very good and convenient PR move by them, but there are so many other, extremely obvious options they could take. Riot is very good at business unlike EA who are up front about their greed. Very least is that they take pride in their skins, not being quick to rush them out and taking very careful player feedback.

Mh for me Riot is Like Ea. May ask you since when season do you play ? I'm there since s2 and i can tell you that riot before tecent was more close to their players they even answered in the boards to balance topics...

Want to know which companies care really about players ? Blizzard, Creative Assembly, Project Red, etc.

You believed that? lmao

He didn’t get unbanned lol

The “ban on sight” policy was lifted. That’s far more of a punishment than your average flamer/troller/inter gets.
