I'm 100% okay with new champions being disabled in ranked for a short time

I can't tell you how many times that someone says in ranked "It's an even playing field because I don't know how to play this champion, and the enemy doesn't know how to play against it either" when a new champion is released. No, it's not. It's not fair when you're picking said new champion for the first time while you're up against a lvl 7 Fiora, Maokai, etc. AND THEN, they get mad and troll-pick because I ban the champ??? Disabling these new champions would calm the ranked scene for a week so that people can then have a chance to try out the champion in normals, and then play ranked with an idea of how to play rather than going 0/54/0 in ranked because it's your first time playing the champion.

Sorry I'm just done with this crap. Pls fix rito, thanks.

Yeaaaah, pretty sure the enemy team knows how to deal with yet another engage tank after playing against a ton of them most likely. Also, the even playing field is definitely bullshit. There's nothing even about playing a champion for the first time against somebody for the first time into one of their best champions.

The sad thing is, Smite does this "ban new Gods from ranked until next patch" thing, and it's actually a really good idea. It gives the champion time for people to learn it (and NOT ruin a team's ranked experience because you just had to fucking play the new champion in ranked) while also lowering animosity in champ select. (wtf why did you ban Galio / Galio just came out why the fuck are you picking him? gg we lose)

Every release or massive rework one of these posts pops up.

It's always the same arguments.

On average, the enemy is just as bad at dealing with the champion as your teammate is playing with the champion due to an unfamiliar kit. Riot only cares about the results of the match when it comes to ranked, not the circumstances or the quality of the matches. This is why they balance around win rates, rather than play rates. Don't expect them to lock champions due to play rate popularity, because by that same logic, there are two massively popular champions who are in desperate need of being locked out of normals. That would require firing off more than 3 brain cells in unison and we all know that riot sometimes has trouble doing this.

I remember I made a post just like this for when Warwick was about to be release (Rework) Had bronze idiots saying just stop playing for 2 weeks then.<<Best advice ever, rather then fix the problem where they should not be playing it in rank.

also jesus christ people THERES A LEGIT PRACTICE MODE NOW!!!! My first game as galio i DECIMATED because i spent like an hour practicing his combos, timings, and moves in the practice mode so then i knew (more or less) how to utilize him fully in real games. then yes, go normals for about a week, and THEN allow them ranked!

Rito it's that easy and simple you guys shoulda been the first to do this honestly with reworks and such.

3 days. Is 3 days too much to ask?

Social Justice 13/23/2017, 1:47:50 PM3 votes

Okay but you'd just be delaying the problem (of people picking Galio in ranked without playing him).

People are going to prioritize playing ranked over playing Galio

A better but COMPLETELY unlikely solution to this problem (at least when it comes to new champs) is not allowing a champion to be pickable in ranked unless you have at least lvl 5 champ mastery with them

forcing you to pick a champion your a little familiar with would help MOST people in ranked and would save a new player the experience of jumping into ranked as soon as they hit lvl 30 then being sent into bronze where they experience being the one dragging their team down and being flamed for it

problem with that is people dont like being restricted, I know many low elo players who would rather pick something new every game because they get "bored" playing the same thing over and over EVEN if its ranked

ranked is just TOO lax when it comes to player experience, a fresh lvl 30 account with 15 champs unlocked and ZERO runes can load up into a ranked game where everyone else is prepared with ZERO issue and no one sees that as a problem

the same way a bronze 5 player who DOESNT actually care about ranked can load up and play some champ theyve never played before effectively costing his team the game soley to have his own fun being the "le epic troll xdd"

lvl 5 champ mastery isnt even that high of an achievement but it at least shows you have enough experience with the champion to know what each of their abilities DOES

but with the autofill problem restricting champ select even more wont really help unless riot budges with flex queue (aka second normals queue)

" when a new champion is released. No, it's not. It's not fair when you're picking said new champion for the first time while you're up against a lvl 7 Fiora, Maokai, etc.

So what ??? is it fair when someone go with his mastery 5 against m7 ??? Mastery dosn't mean anything in this game.

AND THEN, they get mad and troll-pick because I ban the champ??

Obviously, if u act like a child don't expect them to act better.

"It's an even playing field because I don't know how to play this champion, and the enemy doesn't know how to play against it either"

And u think disabled the pick for one week or more will help ?? Many don't play normal after start ranked. And to know what a champ can its better in ranked where's less clown fiesta (than normal).

and then play ranked with an idea of how to play rather than going 0/54/0 in ranked because it's your first time playing the champion.

This wouldn't change any.

0 assists. That is....incredible. I don't see how hard it is to play the champ in bots to understand the basics-- beginning first to understand the kit, then intermediate and deal with so much aggro it become tilting, then do norms, then do rank. Some 20 games should be good, I'd say. I mean, the higher the rank, the more games one should grind to deal with every champ but how hard is it to do that?
