The Garen Paradox

Cant be buffed even when weak because "he'd destroy low elo"

Won't get reworked because "beginners need him!" even if he's a horrible teacher champion

a champ who is simultaneously oppressive and necessary in low elo and will be denied modernizing for the sake of people who either don't know how to vs him or would be better off learning the game with someone else anyway

a shame

Honestly even I think the whole “new players need a champion to teach them the game” attitude is getting old.

There are other champions that can teach new players right now and not all of them are even that expensive. I learned how to last hit through Pantheon.

Plus it’s not as though Riot cannot make a reworked Garen still newbie friendly. Warwick is and still has a decently high ceiling.

it's true tough , why not make another champ like him i would love a paladin champ who use justice and stuff but is a fightter and not a support

rework Garen

beginners do need him , he is a really good champ and teach alot just like annie

u cant ruin a vital champ in the game like this

Garen doesn't teach you anything. nasus is much better beginner champ

playing Garen is only learning how to play league while handicapped

Nasus teaches you to not play with your team and always depend on yourself. Pretty toxic.

no he doesn't

There are champs like this for every lane. Garen Yi Annie (except for Annie Bot) Ashe (even though every adc is played) Morgana/Blitz

Garen is good for teaching newer players, but mostly from the perspective of the guy who is fighting garen. Fighting against garen teaches newer players valuable concepts like being wary of bushes, being ready to quickly backpedal if the garen suddenly activates his q and wait for him to turn back and use it on a minion, respecting the potential of a flash combo to kill you at low hp before you are able to flash or dash away yourself, ranges of engagement and trading, playing around cooldowns especially ult cooldowns and summoners, how to carefully pressure an opponent who is behind without commiting so that you can keep the regen down without drawing too much jungle aggro, how to bait an enemy into trading with you so that they are defenseless when the jungler comes t gank for you, etc.

Playing garen can teach you things too but it doesn't take a lot of time on garen to start doing things that force other players to adapt. After a relatively low amount of time playing garen you'll have more or less mastered the mechanics involved and will need to learn more about the game as a whole to continue to improve. He still works fine up in mid plat too, especially vs new irelia, so it's not like playing garen means that you're hardstuck bronze or something. Only 10 percent of players reach plat or higher so for almost everyone garen is 100% a viable pick that's not a waste of time to pick up given his low mechanical floor to perform with.

Not a shame haha!!!!! Just graduate to a better champ once you are out of silver. He's is good to learn how to freeze/push waves with and bully certain laners. Then you us that knowledge on Sion, Irelia, Fiora, Darius, Urgot, and you are good to go.

He's not even that good in low elo.
