The real reason/change that started the snowballing of games

The Ambient Gold change.

I believe that this change has caused an indirect exponential growth in how much gold a person backs with in terms of finishing an item. Which allows for the person to have more damage early, which causes a snowball, which causes games to end quicker.

I missed so much balance changes between 2014 and 2016

I believe this change didn't increase snowball, but it decreased game duration like hell

In my other thread someone told me "look at your season 2 games, people weren't full build at 40 min" and yeah he was right Because item 3078 used to cost 4200 gold, item 3046 used to cost 2800 gold, all offensive items were expensive now people finish their full build so fast it doesn't make sens

enemy zed has youmu at 8 min while starting with long sword this is what made the game fast paces so hard, enemies are at our inhib at 18 min while before laning phase continued until 20 min "but rubick this is good" well i guess this is where it's subjective

i love laning phase, i hate 18 min inhib it's cancer before you had 1v1 toplane until 25 min, it was pure skill, and you could outfarm poeple you could outroam toplane all of this showed your laning skill now at 10 min enemy botlane shows up top

wtf

Well think about it, it did increase snowball. Before the Ambient Gold change, you might have gone back with 1000-1100 Gold and not be able to buy the bigger item that you wanted, now you might have 1250-1400, and you'll be able to buy more damage, which gives the potential for more snowballing, and you're right, decreases game time.

makes sens

And to top it off, items are generally more cheaper than they were, as you were saying, TF used to cost 4200 Gold, and is now only 3600. As have other items gone down in price, Ambient Gold up, item prices down, more damage at earlier stages of the game.

Is high elo really that bad?

Ahristocats1 votes

depends by what you mean by bad

but one thing is that high elo players do everything to end the game quickly

in master one team is at inhibitor at 18 min at least and i'm kind on that number

Well not to sound rude but I think you too notice how you are one of biggest personalities on these boards when its about complaining about the current meta. I do wonder how bad it is in high elo. In low elo the only time meta is noticable is with things you cant stop on your own like tank yasuo or devourerer junglers.

And i'm not the only one, i'm literally burning out because of the state of league i want my game to be back i try to ask other players if they think the same https://i.gyazo.com/1d37e680e58430ef57ee461f5523e45d.png https://i.gyazo.com/6c2c0acb1b7e89ccacc68778907d7a47.png

WE'RE ALL TIRED OF THE META the only one who aren't are lethality user, and those who like snowballing and 18 min games and i don't think any high elo players like this

because we can't show our skill

well here it's every op picks dominating like jayce or leblanc who are being nerfed But i didn't mind that for a long time

but i can no longer play at my best the champion i use most of the time is darius and he needs a tank, he needs ccs, he needs melee champions in the enemy team

and lethality meta just removes all of that i play thresh and supports are cancer right now, dominated by miss fortune+mages+some enchenters like karma or janna

Wouldn't this decrease snowball if anything? This means the gold gap isn't as wide. You can be behind in kills and still get a bit more gold than before.

It basically leaves the gold gap at a net change of nill. Before the change, yes ambient gold didn't help you catch up as much from being behind. However, at the same time, you got less behind in the first place by not having a lane opponent zone you from a minion wave for having enough gold to finish an item 2 minutes earlier than they used to.

Also, in the long run, it just drastically shortened game times and contributed substantially to the feeling that turrets are paper thin. Previously it was never expected that a champ would finish their build (even as a carry, you'd be lucky to get 5 items, and hitting 6 items was a sign that you lacked the skill to end the game before flat lining on stats, i.e. not good unless you're a nasus). Having full build 15 minutes earlier (because of how the damage snowball works, it makes it easier to clear waves faster and more completely at a much earlier time) means you can nuke towers into oblivion at 35-40 minutes at the rate that you used to only be able to hit at 60+ minutes. This also works defensively, meaning tanks outscale turret damage faster making dives easier, aggravating snowball in yet another way.

I'd like to add that it seems CSing has gotten much easier. Between better attack animations, early damage from runes/masteries to minions, and most champs having a wave clear ability, the amount of CS is crazy. I remember when 100 CS at 20 minutes was good, now you're having issues. Once again, more gold, faster games.

junglerboy161 votes

All the old tutorials I watched back in season 3 when I just started were like "A good beginner benchmark is about 4 CS a minute, this can be pretty challenging on the majority of characters."

Now it's like "Kids, if you aren't hitting 8+ CS per minute, you're auto losing lane, go back and practice on bots till you can perfect clear waves."

This does make the most sense. The economy in the game does most definitely drive what surmounts to what winds up being the game deciding factor, almost a little too heavily.

Everybody gets the same amount of gold. Reducing Ambient Gold just makes it worst for comeback while people who are ahead get even more ahead

Spoofghoul1 votes

it's an important part but not the only part

dragons buffs increased snowball their gold value is huge, it used to give 350 gold now its easily double or more depending on which drake

turrets receive more damage from mages with high ap turrets were made susceptible to penetration, and had their resistances reduced and effects removed like laser and shield and bot turret no longer has fortification

We have a lot of damage amps now too in the masteries and items like LDR and shit like TLD

I don't agree. If you do some calculations, you gain an extra 84 gold per 10 minutes. What would that change get you?

I only started playing last year (around the time Jhin was released) so i don't really know how the seasons before that were, but it does feel like the laning phase is too short. I don't like getting an inhib destroyed at 18 minutes.
