About Lux....

Patch 5.17 (9/4/15):

"Light Binding deals 100% of its damage and root to the secondary target as well"

Lux's winrate:

  • before patch 5.17: 53-54%

  • after patch 5.17: 53-54%

Lux's ult damage:

  • before patch 5.17: 300 / 400 / 500 (+ 75% AP)

  • after patch 5.17: 300 / 400 / 500 (+ 75% AP) (no change)

The boards opinion of Lux:

  • before patch 5.17: Meh she's pretty weak. She's really vulnerable to getting ganked. She is pretty vulnerable to X champion(s). She does decent damage, but she is an immobile mage and gets blown up in fights. Iguess she is Ok for low ELO, but is bad to decent players. Her root is pretty slow and narrow so it's pretty easy to side step.

  • after patch 5.17: OMFG SHE'S SO BROKEN! HER ULT DOES INSANE DAMAGE! HER LANING PHASE IS SO SAFE AND SHE HAS NO COUNTERS! THERE'S ABSOLUTELY NOTHING YOU CAN DO TO HER! SHE JUST PUMPS OUT STUPID AMOUNTS OF DAMAGE WITH HER BROKEN ULT! DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THAT BS ROOT!

Can anybody explain to me how a change that made almost no difference to her suddenly made her OP? Has everyone forgotten how to play against her or something? Has everyone forgotten how easy it is for her to get ganked? Has everyone forgotten that her laning phase hasnt changed at all? Can anyone explain how her ult is suddenly just now "broken OP" with absolutely zero changes to it? Is this real life?

The same thing happened with Veigar lol. People just want to complain

Eedat3 votes

At least Veigar got a constant slew of buffs patch after patch. That could be some sort of reason to complain. What has Lux gotten besides the changes to her Q? How did one small change that didn't even really matter suddenly make her broken?

He hasn't seen any changes sense 5:13 until this patch. Both of the "buffs" were quality of life patches that didnt change his numbers or damage out put.

Back in 5.13, she had her QOL buffs to her singularity and shield. But people like to complain instead of adapt.

Someone picks up a champion and performs well on them, other people follow suit and now everyone's playing them, and people start complaining, at least until someone manages to find a champ that beats them. It's just Cyclical Imbalance running its course.

Buffs and Nerfs just help this along. In the case of the Juggernauts, sometimes screwups do happen, and riot's still working to bring them back into line.

As a Lux main, I either ban yasuo or request that he be banned, because he's also popular right now, and otherwise hard counters me.

Same thing will happen to Swain sooner or later. :'(

  1. the changes did a huge difference for her, and atleast in plat +, her winrate went from ~52 to ~55% (http://champion.gg/champion/Lux)
  2. same with the garen rework, people are not used to see lux often, and they are not that used to see them doing well. With her suddenly beeing more popular and doing well more ofter, they notice all her strengths and complain about it. Sometimes reduceing a weakness shows the strengths of a champ more clearly than buffing that stregths does.

Also, noone besides lux mains claimed she was weak befor 5.17...

Well I'm a bit biased because I've always thought she was overpowered, but I'd chalk it up to her becoming more popular due to the slight buffs. If a champ gets more popular yet her win rate stays the same, that means she's winning more games because she's in more games. Not only that, but people are more willing to complain about a popular champion because they seem them more often.

The truth of the matter is, Veigar and Lux have been strong picks for a while, but since they weren't played often no one really noticed.

i recently started maining Lux and I'll say this. all of her abilities except E are very very easy to dodge. the Q is slow as fuck and the ult's channel time allows it to be easily sidestepped. even by those who are recalling and realize it last second.

I hardly consider E much of a skill shot, but it still technically is.

ALL of her abilities are skill reliant. meaning if you get hit by them its because she outplayed you, or you failed mechanically.

not only that but its not like the ratios are that broken anyway. for perspective Lux ultimate has 75% ap ratio, while veigar ulti and dark matter damage (W) both have 100% ap ratio.

granted, lux has way more range, but its not like her combo can instantly one shot you without her building up some AP first. she is a late game beast, but so are most ap control mages.

Lux is perfectly balanced right now. her changes made her just good enough to compete and I love it. before the W delay made it hard to use the shield as a trade as you had to use it pre-emptively rather than reactively which is always better.

and the double snare is not that big of a deal. it slightly increases her team fight damage on multiple targets. thats it.

No it was a very vocal few people (literally) who mained her and thought she must be pretty weak because their elo stalled in gold and below. The majority thought she was fine if not slightly OP.

And it's not just the damage changes on her Q. The mana cost was also dropped which allows her to land more abilities, more often. This was after she received W and E buffs of which her E buff was excessive.

Lux mains pre 5.17 : Can you slightly reduce her E's mana cost, since it costs more than most ults at max rank and is our main waveclear/harass? And/Or slightly rebalance the dmg it does so we don't need 3 fully built AP items to one shot the caster minions, unlike every other mage that can do it with just one (or just a NLR in some cases)? Hitting them and then needing to aa every one is a real pain. Riot : Here's a small buff to your Q Lux mains : ??????? Rest of the community : OMFG, LUX SO OP NOW!

I don't mind Lux mid so much, but I really don't like playing against a support Lux. Pretty damn annoying

(NOTE: this is not saying anything about her balance state, just that she is annoying)

She's better than Morgana and that damn 3-second snare...

One small QoL buff, and Everyone and their mother Cries OP. But the only thing they actually do is point to her Win rate rather than explore why she might be OP. (And if you don't figure out the WHY, Riot won't do a thing)

My only thought is a) She can more reliably land her damage, or b) she's actually doing what she's suppose to be doing. (being a long range Siege mage.)

And if the latter is true. I would try to maintain that. Partially since Siege mages haven't been in the meta for pretty much the entire season. But why are Siege mages not meta? Probably because a) Never Recovered from mana nerfs in pre season. b) Poke in General isn't meta. and c) Baron changes make their redonculous wave clear less effective.

But unlike most Siege mages, She actually has enough CC to kite the enemy. Something that Ziggs or Xerath don't do Quite as well.

Devack The Holy1 votes

Yeah, I had a Hecarim and Darius whine I was OP simply because I had 40cdr and was kiting them with Q and E... That's kinda how she stays safe, people.

The big buff was W applying to her twice (once on throw and once on return) instead of once (on return only). If she's under fire, it's a huge survivability increase. She can look low enough on hp to justify a risky all-in or a tower dive, and that shield lets her bait hard for kills in lane.

The buff to E was big, too. The damage is balanced, but if she procs a lot of passives, she can be a pretty big bully now. The buffs were real, and the Q was the smallest of the 3.

Seriously what are you talking about? Her W has always worked this way

v5.12

W shields immediately. E gains a bunch of feel improvements.

"Lux's changes this patch are more on the 'feel improvement' side of the spectrum than raw numbers tuning. Abilities that require a second cast to detonate have historically been more difficult to use for players that aren't in low-ping environments, so we're adding a 'pre-detonate' option (similar to Gragas' Barrel Roll and Ziggs' Satchel Charge) to Lucent Singularity, as well making Prismatic Barrier shield her instantly to pull off the same quick self-block plays that other champions with shields can."

Prismatic Barrier - W - Prismatic Barrier FAITH IN THE LIGHT Lux gets shielded immediately on cast

Zorae421 votes

W always shielded on initial throw, it just had a small delay that made it irritating that someone could kill you in the 0.5sec time it took to activate.

Eedat1 votes

Are you serious? You HAVE to be joking. This change was Lux's shield kicked in immediately instead of after the .25 second cast time.

I will say it again. Her shield has always shielded her at the beginning and end of the spell
