It's not all that hard to make an AP Item for Assassins that won't be abused by mages

Akali Ekko Evelynn Fizz Kassadin Katarina etc. all want to be up close and personal to your face while Anivia Brand Lux Xerath and friends all want to be a medium/far distance from their target(s).

So if you have an item like the following: Ultimate Edgelord Item: 60 AP 10% Movement Speed Unique Passive: 10 Magic Pen Unique Active: For the next 6 seconds (3 seconds for ranged champions), damage dealt to champions within 250 units of yourself does 15% bonus true damage.

Then mages don't really have the opportunity to abuse them. Mages tend to not care about MS all that much while Assassins love it and buying it only for the AP and Magic Pen is a waste when you can get other items that offer a lot more for similar stats. The active is hard to use on ranged champions to begin with because of the range restriction and having the duration be halved for ranged champions makes it all that harder to abuse. This is just a random idea for an item and the one I suggested could be broken/really bad, but that's the general idea. Use the fact that mages like to be away from their targets while Assassins like being close to create these kind of items.

Obviously, there are going to be some mages that could make use out of these items because they are still good even when close to other enemies, but making an item for a class that only has one actual item for them item 3100 in exchange for a few mages also being able to use it isn't a bad tradeoff. It's just kinda annoying how AD Assassins get all of these toys to have fun with when Riot does updates to Assassins, but AP Assassins are left with nothing new.

End Rant.

Basically close range mages break your item. Granted it's already broken with that kind of active but numbers don't really matter as much as concept.

I said there were going to be some mages that would be good with these kinds of items, but that's a good tradeoff for Assassins being able to mainly use these items. The items can be changed around accordingly to make them less enticing on mages as well (33% for AoE, auto attacks only, etc.)

Hmm an assassin item would be nice, but I'm going to be honest and say pure damage amps on assassins can be pretty difficult to balance.

They should just lower the cost of ludens or make the damage scale like statikk. That item could be so much better if it didn't cost an arm and a leg.

Interesting, considering that Luden's current scaling favors the early game currently. Too bad that no one will prioritize that over Mana in the early game.

Still, Given it's AoE, I doubt it will be a good point of Focus for bolstering AP Assassin itemization. (I still use this item sometimes on Siege mages just for the increased wave clear. And considering AD assassins don't typically buy Statikk, I don't think that's such a good comparison.

For single target as part of a burst combo, I would just go with Gunblade. That has way better base, and way better scaling than Luden's.

Rumble would have a field day.

Ahri. The board's barely getting over the "nerf Ahri" train, let's not kickstart it.

thing is

we are definently not going to give fizz or kassadin any buffs in any way, not even indirect ones

im fine with giving Ekko Katarina Akali Evelynn some small buffs but we are seriously not going to give those cancerous game-ruiners buffs

If you do an item that increase single target damage during a short duration it could be pretty good, since ap assasins have way less aoe then mage :)
