Is it just me, or has champion diversity improved a lot the past few seasons?

I remember in season 4 and 5 when the most popular champions were hovering around 30%+ play rate. Now when I look at statistics, they're only at around 10%.

There's also way less champs that seem completely neglected. Sure, Skarner is pretty forgotten at the bottom, but it's not as bad as the Urgot-Yorick-Galio+ combo that used to have a permanent place there.

Nope. Still Yasuo in every top lane, and runner-ups desperately maining Kayn jungle to embrace their "edginess".

its artificial

there's more champs and a lot of these newer champs are getting played, but its still the same core nucleus of about 4 god tier champs per role and everyone else being subpar. the roster just fluctuates slightly each preseason

Wider champion pool and a lot of old champions got some nice rework season five and beyond making them fun to play.
