Udyr vs. how Riot balances champions.
Riot is currently executing their classic strategy of:
- overhaul items and masteries at the same time, leaving historically balanced champions as outlier OP champs.
- repeatedly nerfing a few of the OP champions.
- come to the realization that many other champions are OP because of item/mastery synergy.
relevant video: master/challenger assassins building full tank and having it work. https://youtu.be/0M19SRCm9g8
- nerf core items used by champions in step 2, but without compensating them by un-doing nerfs (can you remember the last Sejuani jungle you saw?).
It's pretty obvious that
is getting nerfed in the next few patches, along with
.
- leave several champions languishing outside viability for long long long stretches.
- the season ends and items/masteries are overhauled, restarting the cycle and yet still possibly not making the step 2 champions viable again.
is the latest victim of this mess and I think it is a real shame. When I wanted a tanky jungler that could still do _**some **_damage, he was my go-to champion for the last 3 years. Then, the season 6 changes shifted the meta to early/mid ganking junglers who could snowball the game, but never had to worry about falling off lategame because 90% of games are over by 30 minutes. Riot also revamped a lot of the mobility items to help melee champions deal with mobility creep (which is kind of ironic). All these things pointed in
's favor, and he went on a rampage.
So, I can't play one of the champs I like because he is perma-banned. The nerfs are rolling in, to both the champion and his core items. And, because Udyr isn't a #LC$BIGPLAY$ champ, I feel like he is going to get passed-over and left in the dumpster forever.

edit: the list #s are messed up because of forum, spaghetti code and I can't fix it.
