Why does everyone insist queue times were not an issue last season?

A point that all the anti-autofill threads seem to make is that queue times were not an issue before. Thats just flat out not true. Literally every single weekend the boards were flooded with "why is there a 15 minute queue for Silver?!" threads. I don't quite understand how people can say with a straight face that queue times were fine.

Sure, maybe queue times were fine for a few weeks in pre-season right after Season 6 ended, but thats to be expected. People blowing off steam and dicking around in norms along with Flex Queue and Normal Draft being the only two main modes to play. But that doesnt work now. We now have 3 ranked queues, along with all the normal queues. Season 7 is starting next week and people are getting geared up. If you honestly think queue times would be fine without autofill, sorry but you're wrong.

Look what happened last season when Riot turned on ranked 5s on weekends. Queue times skyrockets. And thats just ranked teams. What do you think is going to happen now that Dynamic queue has been split into Solo/Duo and Flex? Plus ranked 3v3 running full time? Come on people, stop kidding yourselves.

Queue times WERE an issue. Stop acting like they weren't.

For 80% of the community (including you according to your rank) they weren't an issue. Now that bronze, silver and gold always have autofill on, they are complaining about it because it wasn't ever an issue to THEM.

Just go watch gbay99's video he explains it all perfectly

They WERE an issue. Literally every single weekend the boards were lit up with "Why are queue times so low in [[Insert low ELO here]]"

You're wrong. Queue times were atrocious across the boards. Even in lower ranks. Yet we still have people insist that they weren't because it makes their anti-autofill argument sound better

Ofc you didn't watch gbay's video...

When you have a match making queue there are 3 bigs things it should strive to do. 1st a queueing system should give fair matches 2nd a queueing system that should be relatively quick in finding a match 3rd a queueing system should give some control over what role you want to play

in the previous system the last bit was completely absent the system ends up making the new queue a double edged sword. If you don't get autofilled you are guarenteed one of the two roles you selected before queueing up you get to player your main role a higher percent of the time than the old system.

The old queue did nothing for the role selection, and only focused on getting fair matches realativly quickly, I thought this new system was riots way of saying "we are going to sacrifice a little bit of the queue time factor so we can give you something we've never given you before, and thats role selection. But autofill just destroys all of this. When you get autofilled, it takes away the role selection obviously and you're also diminishing the match quality because it ruins the game if someone on your team gets support that doesn't have a rune page, or doesn't play support, and that's all for the sake of shorter queue times?"

Basically, That entire paragraph from gbay that may not sound related is supposed to mean that you are making the queue time slightly longer to get one of the 2 roles you selected. OBVIOUSLY it will be LONGER than in previous seasons but that doesnt' mean it was a PROBLEM. It was only a PROBLEM for the few people that had to wait 20+ minutes

I've seen gbay's video and I disagree with him. Some of his stats with average queue times were off because during peak hours maybe it would only take 30 seconds to get a team but if you're playing late night PST you're fucked no matter the elo.

It's funny how everyone flocks to Gbay's video.

You realize he is just a single person like you and me and is capable of being biased or wrong? You ever think he's biased as fuck because he is an Irelia one trick?

Not to mention that gbay's numbers are average queue times. At 1 in the afternoon, queue times are fine. However, at nights and on weekends when a lot more people are playing, these 'average times' aren't even close.

Second point I want to make is that his Number 1 and number 2 points completely contradict themselves. He thinks autofill is 'not fair matches', yet then goes on to say queues should be fast? Does he not realiz that autofill is the only thing making queue times fast?

So sick of people quoting Gbay like his opinion is the end all be all and that he is incapable of bias. Then you sheeple following blindly because you are incapable of forming an opinion of your own. "BUT MUH YOUTUBER SAID IT!!!!!!". It's getting embarrassing quite honestly

I never had any problem with que times past the first month of last season. I'd much rather wait an extra 5 minutes to play the role I want anyway.

Queue times aren't the real issue in all of this. The bigger issue is that there's an imbalance in the roles (support is weak) which in turn is causing rito to more or less "kiss the problem on the forehead and goes away" instead of actually attempting to make it more balanced/appeal to a wider audience. As it stands right now, the only people who want to play the role that only really influences one half of one lane (or less than that if you're including the jg) are those who are dedicated to it, or those who couldn't normally achieve higher ranks otherwise.

Support isn't weak. People just want to play carries. Look at literally ANY other game or MMO. Nobody wants to play healer. It doesn't matter that healers are strong. It doesn't matter that a good healer can kick some serious ass. People just care about "MUH DEEPS" and "MUH PLAYS".

If support is so weak, tell me what would happen if you dropped Aphromoo into your game? You honestly think he would be "weak"? Hell no. People just dont care. They assume the role is weak if it doesnt do damage or doesnt make "MUH LC$BIGPLAYZ". They fail to realize that there is more than one way to play well besides going 20/0 on a carry

yes supp is weak and irrelevant......i can tell you countless stories of me doin gmy part but adcs building wrong then people not following up or people. what happened ? i was irrleevant to do anything, i give mid and adc like 8 kills a piece during lanig as leo .... or janna.. what happens i lose so what exactly did i do to have a impact

In the early game, support influences one half of one lane (or less if you include the jg). Compared to games like overwatch (in which the support influences more of the map all the time) and Dota (in which the support transitions between lanes), and the support role in this game seems far weaker and has far little overall influence. Most people don't care about the "big plays", they care about winning. Why on earth would they want to play a role in which even if you do your absolute best you can still be rendered completely irrelevant by one person in a solo-lane feeding?

Oh, and your little "aphromoo" idea is adorable. I'll make one of my own: Let's say Faker played in one of your games, played Azir mid, and went like 20-0. Why, you'd probably be screaming "azir is broken, we should totally nerf him" ignoring the skill part entirely, which kinda goes back to one of the original points that I made (and you blatantly ignored) about how the only people who play support are dedicated to it (aphromoo) or know they can't get a higher rank unless they play it (again, technically aphromoo as he was an ADC first if I remember correctly).

they were , they were an issue from the start of the role selection... they made an entire video about it where riot sat down with scarra and gbay99 cuz in higher elos it was 30 mins + for a game on average and every where else was about 10mins

it was an issue

Eh, I generally just watch videos or read during queues.

I would gladly suffer 10 minute wait-times if I means I don't have players autofilled into role they don't know (often leading them to dodge or feed).

Game quality has been pretty bad for the past few months.

Eedat1 votes

you dont understand that it would just be 10 minutes. It would be much, much longer

EndlessSorcerer1 votes

I played before autofill was introduced and I'm up with Platinum and Diamond players. I am well aware of the queue times in that period.

It was generally 10 to 15 minutes for me and I had no issue with that if it meant the match quality was actually good.

I waited a heck of a lot longer in teambuilder queues happily.

Eedat1 votes

That was BEFORE Solo/duo queue and ranked 3v3 queue was back. Your 10-15 minute number is completely meaningless

they were worese before becuase no one wants to supp ever and people that do were gettign raged at for being noob supp so on and so forth ..... yes im sorry i didnt come top lane to ward your lane ..... or im sorry adc yuo build wrong then run down lane knowing full well im not there and you get caught...... ranked draft was better in my opinion
