Why is Galio so strong right now?

I haven't played league in awhile and I'm trying to learn some things again, but I want to know the meta before jumping in a game and feeding. I noticed that Galio has the 2nd highest win rate in the game, but no one bans him. He's doing better, statisitcally, than Ekko but everyone wants Tank Ekko nerfed into the ground.

everbody is spamming the remade mages, in all kinds of positions. Seen things from zyra top to jungle annie. Galio as mentioned benefits from many item changes and has a lot of match ups are now favorable untill whats meta stabilizes.

Play rates should be taken into account.

If you want to get technical as well, Galio in theory would actually be a top counter against a Zed, If he shields and just ults, he basically just cast an exhaust to Zed Ult.

Itemization changes.

Rod of Ages is really good on him at the moment due to increased health and mana sustain in lane.

Abyssal Scepter providing CDR is a nice change for him too.

The main difference between Galio and Ekko is popularity (and thus, how often players run into them).

Because temporary Mage hype meta. Plus new items benefit him.

Galio may have the 2nd highest win rate in the game, but his current playrate is less than half a percent. Tank Ekko is everywhere... now shhhh so I can have my secret OP.

mostly because Gallio is strong vs mages, and now with the mage update everyone plays mages, so faceing a mage mid+top with an ap-jungler aswell is rather common, and Gallio is and always was a beast in such scenarios. the item changes fovoured him aswell, though they don't have an as huge impact as the mage heavy teamcomps in his winrate. Also, his playrate is really low, so it's rather save to asume that hes mostly picked into those double and tripple ap comps.

Also, ekko is far more annoying to face, so regardless of his actuall power(wich **IF **played well still is very high) people dislike playing against him and thus want nerfs so he isn't played anymore.

Same reason Rammus was in the preseason.
