Why is Heimerdinger not played in tournaments?

Is he bad or something? Does he need buffs or is he just not good at team fighting rendering him being good at solo q only? Maybe his kit is just bad? He has a high winrate. I don't know how because I barely see a Heimer and when I do see one, they never do good and scale really bad. Maybe he has a high win rate in low elo and not high. I don't know but where's Heimer in LCS?

High winrates are caused by two possibilites

  1. He's good but not picked often. Only the most devoted Heimerdinger players are the ones responsible for that winrate.
  2. He's genuinely OP.

Regardless. Heimer is a champion deisgned around zone control. While that's an amazing lane strength, you won't really be needing that niche after laning phase ends. He's extremely vulnerable and requires prep time to even try to survive assassins.

At least IMO: Since LCS players quickly rotate their focus to objectives, fights, etc. Heimerdinger can't keep up. He's not the fastest, and he certainly isn't the strongest fighter. He's focused on committing to one area. If he was picked, the comp would need to play around his strengths and weaknesses more than say, a Zed.

I would say he suffers from the same problems yorick does.

Yorick has his ghouls which gives him an insane sphere of influence and can pretty much bully any lane opponent.

Herimdinger's got his turrets which he plops down and can proceed to slam wave after wave into the opponents tower and play a mean deny game, not only that, but he's also a pain to gank.

But as soon as laning phase ends, if Heimerdinger isn't ahead he's going to have a tough time as he simply can't set himself up fast enough to output his sustained damage from his turrets. With him being an AP Carry as well, more often than not a fight is going to start with him or the adc getting engaged on.

Gotta be able to respond quickly to opportunities and recover quickly from mistakes and engagements made on you, which Heimerdinger doesn't have the luxury of.

People genuinely don't understand how to play against him and how flexible he is, so I wouldn't say he's OP because smart players can shut him down, but he can also adapt by, lets say, maxing rockets first to deal with them, then they aren't used to the insane damage the rockets bring to the table at low levels. This gives him a great laning phase where he can choose to have high damage skill shots or insane zone control. Outside of laning phase however his turrets lose some usefulness and he's only really good for plopping down his big one and as many small ones down before he has to zhonya and then hoping they aren't noticed and then if they manage to win the fight picking off as many stragglers with his rockets/grenades. Or alternatively he can choose to stun as many people as he can with his ult grenades OR start off with a massive burst with his rockets... So he has a lot of choices. I wouldn't say he's bad in any way shape or form, but he has his counters and they are usually very hard counters.
