@Riot Stop nerfing Vlad and rework his ultimate.
Vlad doesn't do anything spectacularly himself.
If you look at how LCS games go, its the same thing every time, from every champion:
-
Pick relatively safe champion.
-
Manipulate minion waves while watching for windows of aggression from either side or jungler intervention.
-
Have mid-game zoning threats so you can brute-force objectives if you have any form of lead.
-
Essentially utilize 3 while seeking to teamfight: Force abilities to be blown on frontline, follow-up with backline either knocking down enemy front line and continuing aggression, or blowing up enemy backline and proceed to take objectives.
This is basically the play-by-play of every LCS match. Now, ask yourself what Vlad does that's better than other champions.
You're probably thinking tanky+damage, or sustain, aren't you?
You wouldn't be wrong, but there are mid-laners that get relatively tanky (Rylai's, Abyssal, etc) and are able to play much, much safer, while providing much more lane presence and, later on, more general threat...not to mention CC.
As far as sustain goes...professional players know his sustain potential. They generally will often not misplay due to it, and very often they will not let him utilize it to a potential where it would make a difference. Not to mention they actually know what
is.
So...ask yourself...**why is Vladimir pick/ban in competitive? **
If its not being tanky and dealing lots of damage, and its not sustain, some of you might be stumped. However, I have a single, definite answer for you: **His ultimate's damage amp. **
Considering Vlad does things that are usable, especially with how he's able to scale with tankiness early, any time he's not absolute shit-tier garbage that's not workable even by professional players, he will be picked solely because he provides for his team a 10% damage amp.
Think about the consequences of giving Irelia, Gnar, Leblanc, Viktor, etc a 10% damage buff to their entire kit. Just because. Think about buffing the damage of the common ADCs by 10%. Just because. They would be absurdly powerful, right? 60% winrate, maybe more. Right? **Think of buffing Fervor by 10%. Just because. **
Welcome to why Vlad is pick/ban in competitive play.
If you really want to keep the general essence of the current ultimate, rework it to only give himself the damage buff, double the duration (so he can actually benefit from it himself), with the heal occurring halfway through. Ticks 1 damage per two seconds, if only to consider them still in combat due to it being such a long debuff at that point.
This makes Vlad more of a selfish carry, rather than a pseudo-support one.
Otherwise, remove the damage amp, watch him drop off the face of the earth in competitive, then undo all of the nerfs he's taken solely due to being pick/ban in competitive.
You can even rework the ult if you want. Delayed damage with a, usually, win-more heal isn't very compelling, IMO. Especially since the damage pop feels absurdly weak any time before lvl 16 and 3+ items.
_The only other thing you can do with Vlad is give him a complete VGU, retaining only his Q+R, and making his passive store 'blood/lifeforce' like Aatrox's, which he casts other spells from to support his team/debuff the enemy (or something along those lines)...maintaining his current ult in a much more fitting kit. Nobody wants Vlad to be a support, though, even if it sounds like a cool concept. New champion pls, Riot. _
**TL;DR: Vlad is picked in competitive (and consequently nerfed for being in competitive) because he gives
etc 10% extra damage. OP, pls nerf. **
