http://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/img/champion/splash/Rengar_0.jpg The Rengar Revolution In case you guys don't know, Rengar is going to continue being the stabby stabby knife cat he is now. Rengar's minigame of Headhunting the entire enemy team with huge reward (and I mean carry level reward) is coming and Burst Rengar builds are also coming. item 3047 item 3031 item 3147 item 3142 item 3074 + Edge of Night With the extra AD from Rengar's passive, it just makes him an absolute monster if he is able to get all 5 Trophies. Now, why is it the Rengar Revoltion? Well, for one, I can bet Rengar will be played a ton. HOWEVER, the main thing is that, and I hope this is the case, players will learn to play safer (especially in lane) to counter these Rengars who are searching for the 1000 AD dream (2500 Crit excluding armor). Remember, be good and use Control Wards to see those coming Rengars and play safe! No one wants to deal with a fed Rengar who is basically the upcoming Carry Assassin.

Combine that with some other changes and it looks like Tanks are on the rise. Tank Supports especially are going to feel the love with Knight's Vow and Redemption (which are beasts of theorycrafting themselves). Sion, Nautilus, Zac, and even Urgot if you are feeling crazy enough can make ginormous use of the new Keystone.

Only Irelia, Poppy, Trundle (sometimes), and Pantheon can really thrive as a Melee in the current Top Lane at max efficiency. If you don't have a gap closer of any kind (whether making them come to you or vice versa), then you basically are just sitting under Tower for most of the laning phase. Since Preseason doesn't SEEM to be changing this in this first patch, it might be time to start speculating where all these homeless Melee Bruisers can go besides Top Lane in order to survive in the game efficiently. Who knows, maybe something crazy might surprise us!

So which champs are you saying are gonna get screwed out of Top Lane? I also feel Poppy tends to be played full tank more often than as a bruiser (going by the traditional bruiser definition of 1-2 damage items and then tank)

Frankly, almost all "bruisers" tend to have a gap closer of some kind. It just that a gap closer is no longer strong enough to kill a ranged top laner, with all the kiting and disengage they tend to have.

Only bruiser that I can think of off the top of my head (ha! Top! Puns!) that has no gap closer is Trundle , and he goes Jungle and Support at certain times.

I guess you can classify Juggernauts (Darius ,Illaoi ,Garen ) as bruisers in the top lane, but other than that I dunno. Other bruisers like Volibear and Olaf are just better in the Jungle right now anyway.

Poppy is a tank.

Top lane bruisers go jungle or get run out of the meta. That's how it is.

Heard rumors of some being potential Supports in a similar way to Trundle, but more aggressive.

Support: Illaoi Darius Maokai Shen Volibear Tryndamere are the main ones I have heard talk of... the last one I don't think will work but the others have potential utility and/or CC to give to an ADC.

Well, Maokai, Shen, and Voli have been seen as support for a long time. Tryndamere is only realy a gimmick (that works sometimes because he reduces enemy ADC's AD, but later on becomes useless because of lack of gold and exp), and Illaoi and Darius are really just the AD equivalent of mage supports, fun to play, but not bringig enough utility to the team to make them effective.

Though overall you're right, melees are getting pushed completely out of top lane. But that does bring something up: most supports are also not melee.
