this game is depressing
how do people get good at this game? how much time does it take to even be decent?

With a champion that requires skill to master, it takes time.
But with:

You can be a master in 5 minutes.

Don't overreact. Vayne, Kalista, and Rengar take skill. Heck, Rengar's not even OP, people just get pissed because he can jump from stealth and one-shot them like the assassin he is. oh but I don't carry a pink ward or oracle's so he needs nerfed
bro my brother is diamond and his friend who mains rengar KNOWS that rengar is broken.
He is not an assasin.
He might be played as assassin, but his kit kinda favours him more as a tankish bruiser.
That's why I said he is not an assasin.
Yup, I know. I agree with you.
Wrote it to explain Rengar playstyle to someone who downvoted you :)
I see, thank you friend.

Who do you mean? Rengar? If you do, its literally his primary role, and he jumps from nowhere and kills squishy people in generally less than 2 seconds, sometimes even less than a second if you're fed and good.
Otherwise, who do you mean?
Just play the easy champions:
Maokai for toplane Xin Zhao for jungle Ahri for midlane Tristana, Jinx, Vayne or Kalista for adc Blitz or Thresh for support
Those are very easy and rewarding champions that should make you win alot of games. Thank me later.
Blitz and Thresh i would not consider for newbies since its very difficult to land hooks if your opponent is decent.and don't forget trying to land one when they are actively hiding behind minions.
i think
(Not very skillshot reliant aside from her ult)
or even
have the luxury of being able to play passively safely imo.
Idk i just found thoes 3 to be a lot easier to learn than Blitz and Thresh.
That is all you have to do though, landing your skillshot. There is no risk to playing those 2 champs and very high reward. That is perfect for beginners.
There's no such thing as skill in league. It's whether or not you're on the good team or not. Imagine playing worlds with 4 scrubs, you'd never win. In my opinion, just don't bother even playing, the champs in this game take 0 skill and you're usually matched with people far below your skill level.

Well, I agree with the part about your team, but as long as your weakest link is around your same MMR or elo it should be fine. So the only real problem is if you're with a duo team of two different divisions.
However as for champs taking skill, that's wrong. You can learn someone like Garen in one game probably(obviously you can do better, but to do good period), but playing someone like Lee Sin, Vayne(ERGH, it disgusts me to say someone like this requires skill...) or Yasuo(pukes), would take time to learn and practice.

"There's no such thing as skill in league. It's whether or not you're on the good team or not. " - There is no skill but the only thing that matters is wether you are on the team that is skilled?
" champs in this game take 0 skill and you're usually matched with people far below your skill level." - Please reread what you wrote.
'Good' is relative.
I've been playing since s2, and I've been at the point where I can easily reach high Gold (if I ever do ranked again, fat chance of that).
And you know what? I'm still improving every game. Even pros have to fight to keep their place.
'Good' is where you want it to be.
It does need a better tutorial, but as for how I got better(not that I'm good, just better), I just binge watched youtube tutorials until I got a good idea of how the game is played.
To be "decent", it depends on how much game knowledge you rack up, and the other part is your mechanical knowledge. It took me about 3/4 a year to get pretty good at the game and start winning frequently. It just takes time.
Either find a champion that you like the concept of and play him/her over and over again until you are consistently good at them, or play a champion who is mechanically easy so you can get a base understanding of the posistion and work on base mechanics such as pings, wards, last hitting, etc. When I first started this game I bought Ahri instantly. It took me about 100 games to get consistently good at her. I have about 800 total games, normal's and ranked on her alone.
Champions that you can work with to get better at the game as a whole are...
Annie - simple AP midlaner with minimal skillshots, and an ability you Don't need to be too worried about (E) Probably the best choice for new players because of the simplicity in her kit.
Ashe - An ADC who isn't too mechanically demanding. Higher than average Auto range with easy to land poke and a constant slow replied every single AA. You don't need to worry about your E in fights because it is purely for vision.
Ammumu- A simple Tank Jg. Not very skill demanding but saving your ults for teamfights is a must. Basically one of the easiest champions to learn the game with and still have a big impact on the game
/
Soraka/Blitzcrank - slightly more challenging champions than the others mentioned, but the most simple in terms of supports. I couldn't really choose one or the other because they both incorporate more advanced mechanics in their kit, sry :\
Maoki - easy top laner with simple skillshots and is tanky. Very solid choice for learning the game.
Hope this helps :3
That depends on what you mean by decent. But lets say you mean: being able to play at least 3 roles extremely well and have an in-depth understanding of the game ...
I would say 6 months to a year.
Or ... "decent" with one character ... 1 to 2 months.
Just takes lots of practice and time, read up on forums, guides, builds, watching Youtube videos about it, play all the different champions you can get your hands on to find the ones that work for you, learn to build items to suit your own playstyle and shore up your own weaknesses, same for runes get those that you need to shore up weakness or play to your strengths.
Once you know yourself the real game will begin, from that point you will start to learn the game by playing in normals against people and get a feel for what people do instead of the AI, you'll learn to diversify your items to deal with the situation at hand instead of being static, you will change everything you do eventually as your knowledge and understanding of the game grows.
Also, ward, always ward!!! And try not to die.
Don't get depressed, it's a fun game, you should be having fun no matter if you're good or bad at it.
It doesn't, ur on the same level as your peers. You'll never notice it until you play with differently ranked friends and notice how well you perform in comparison.
