Statistically, why does Blue side still have nearly a 3% higher chance of winning than Red side?

WoonStruck··5 votes·3,968 views

Especially when under 48.7% WR on a champ is considered weak, and 51.3% somewhat strong?

We're talking about a variable completely outside of anyone's control.

And this is before considering Draft, which is far more important for pros.

Is there a reason no change has been made to alter the map layout to adjust this? The only significant change is the exp distribution between red/blue side jungles in the coming season.

A large amount of people still play with their cameras locked. Blue can access Baron much more easily and safely than purple can. It's probably better to be able to start on red buff than blue buff, and blue gets two people to help with the buff.

Blue actually takes fewer barons and dragons than red. They only take herald more frequently.

As far as leashing goes...just remove it. Have camps spawn later so laners miss CS if they leash. Then lvl 2/3 cheese ganks are less of an issue as well, and we might be able to stop nerfing jungle exp.

Games are decided long before baron spawns.

Other than champs like Yasuo I don't understand why people would play with locked camera, except for new players if it is still a default camera mode when you start to play the game.

Because they are used to having the camera follow who you are playing as? Because they easily lose track of their champion otherwise? I can't stand unlocked camera, tried it several times and just can't do it.

You've probably heard this before but use the spacebar to center yourself after drifting on map (in unlocked mode). Personal preference, I guess, but I feel like locked cam is more difficult for me because I am used to navigating the area around me with camera and using minimap. There are situations where people will use one or the other, though. Like Yassuo famously plays locked when he plays Yasuo.

Locked camera is literally a handicap and probably one of the reasons you're hard stuck after nearly 100 games. I dont know anyone above gold that uses 100% locked camera and definitely no one in high elo. Next youre gonna say you click each ability or don't use smart cast.

except that there are even pros who have played with locked camera. Do you have anything valuable to say at all? what is the point of your comment? Who do you know that is noteworthy? do you know the majority of people who play the game?

"A large amount of people still play with their cameras locked" Huh? You got a source for that? I don't doubt it necessarily but I need to see the numbers on that.

Most of the players who play with cameras locked probably don't play ranked...and those that do likely aren't recorded for the information I used, which is gathered from plat+ data only.

So either way, locked camera is pretty irrelevant.

It's 100% because of the camera. Doesn't matter if people play locked or not, even with unlocked the UI is still in the way because fights tend to happen perpendicular to the nexus. Most people who play with unlocked use spacebar to center the camera back on their champion, and this is more detrimental for red side. Red side needs to move their camera more towards the enemy nexus than blue side does because of the UI interference, so they get slightly less visual information than blue side. Furthermore, there are many cases of diamond+ people playing with locked camera. Hell, there have even been cases of LCS players who do it. So it's not just a low-elo thing.

Botlane tribush is far easier to control for the blue side, small thing but can effect the lane quite a bit.

WoonStruck1 votes

Same for top lane, while blue side is generally safer if their wave management is good.

It's more uncomfortable to play red side in terms of camera work than blue side. Going up seems to be far easier than going down.

It's just camera angle. I'm actually surprised that they're so close. In Dota 2 at one point I remember it being nearly 55-45 or worse.

Even the minions blue side will win more games if left alone. Something like 55%~ I think was the number years ago, with no champion involvement blue will win. So it's just a free buff being on blue side, you have stronger minions.

This may or may not be it, but for myself I prefer playing from SW spawn and attacking the NE spawn. The perspective is easier to deal with.

Ever since I was a kid with warcraft 2, starcraft, etc, I always much preferred spawning in bottom.

Perhaps the dragon spawning in bottom is better? I mean top has easier access to river...

Regardless, I just wish they'd just implement the option for forced perspective (just invert xy axes, the map is already rendered in full 3d... or flip position of baron/dragon for an even lower tech solution -- "bot lane" duo would just to to the lane where dragon spawns, not a hard idea to understand). Twisted treeline had left/right orientation... summoner's rift could probably do the same, we're past the limitations of warcraft 3's "extra large" square map size. In Hots every map has a balanced left right orientation and it both looks and plays great.

Starting blueside is better for jungle.

Blueside start means getting good leashe at red buff. And in high elo almost every Jungler start red buff because Red buff side give more Gold, XP and the better buff. Also Drake is easy to defend.
