Technically, Toxicity is down.

People in Dynamic who are toxic normally have friends who are toxic. Friends who are toxic see nothing wrong with being Toxic, or even see it as funny, so they're likely to group and be premades with each other. So now you have a toxic premade of, let's say, 4 people. If all 4 of those toxic players used to be solo players, each of them would be ruining 4 games total. If they were duo players, they were ruining 2 games total. But now, they're just ruining one game total.

So, technically, Riot isn't wrong with toxicity being down. Less games are being ruined by toxic folk, because they're grouping up, meaning they only ruin one game, it's just quite a bit more hostile for the one player.

Technically, for 6 years now, toxicity in game has only increased. True story.

People have to stop considering only verbal abuse as "toxic". Afking, griefing, trolling, scripting, botting, ddosing, boosting, or purchasing an account are ALL forms of toxicity. And these forms usually lead to a player being upset and becoming verbally toxic in chat.

Until those forms are adequately tackled toxicity will continue to trend upward, as it always has, as long as this game is around. There must be actual consequences for those forms of toxicity for them to ever stop. Only one toxicity system has ever worked so far, the automated chat system, and that one doesn't even work as well as it should.

!00% correct. It amazes me as common sense as all this is that RIOT don't do anything useful about it. AFK toxicity is just as frequent as chat toxicity and if they were punished in the same manner but using bot games instead of chat bans we would see a decrease in AFK's. The LPQ don't do shit.

It's a shame these issues have spiked so dramatically in these later seasons. They were much less common occurrences when we had Tribunal and players were certainly punished severely for these types of transgressions. As a Tribunal participant myself it was a very informative experience seeing how players acted in games and just how much information you could glean about how a player acted just from some simple stats and a few lines of chat. The players who troll now and avoid being banned do so only because they know that no automated system will catch them as long as they say little or nothing in chat.

I personally tested the intent feeder automated system when it came out. It does not work. At all. 30 straight games of intent feeding and it didn't punish that account in any way. I didn't even get a chat ban because I muted all and said nothing. I apologize to any one who played in those games, but the system had to be tested. It does not work even in the slightest.

Most of the automated systems are the same. They simply do not function. The only way to truly deal with toxicity outside of the verbal sort is to bring back Tribunal. Which, of course, we were promised would come back in a few months... more than 3 years ago...

In game harassment now is lower than it was in Normals before. [...] Historically Ranked has been at least twice as bad, in terms of toxicity, as Normals. What we've seen is all the ways we measure how people treat each other in game look better than Normal games.

They measure "how people treat each other in game," which means it's independent of the number of people being harassed and completely dependent on the number of harassers.

Now, if you want to argue that people are just yelling about how dumb their allies are on Voice Chat, then you'd probably be right.
