Just an FYI about Poppy

Her passive W resists do not double when she activates the skill. They only double when she is below 40% health.

Her W active is only for the Movespeed and dash blocker.

If the LCS casters could please be informed of this so that I can stop hearing something that just isnt true, that'd be great

I think Jatt has to pronounce Udyr correctly first.

That's because the last time Udyr was a serious pick in LCS was Season 2. It's been a long ass time since he was ever seen in competitive so I don't really blame him for forgetting the pronounciation since it isn't exactly obvious.

If Aatrox ever saw LCS play I wouldn't be suprised if we had a situation similar to that Key & Peele skit with the substitute teacher

Honestly, I pronounce it like that not because I don't know the "proper" pronunciation, but because I'm 'Murican and say things how I want.

The X is silent, to make everyone cringe at the pronunciation.

Just because he hasn't used the word "Udyr" in LCS matches doesn't mean he never talks about him anywhere else.

Jatt pronounces it "ooo-dur". People on the boards pronounce it "ooo-deer". If we believe the Wiki and say that its the Norwegian word that means "beast", its pronounced "ooo-dee".

It should be pronounced "shin" not "sin". Not sure if I want to trust Riot's pronunciation of foreign words.

There are actually more than 1 correct ways to pronounce Xin since the sound that "X" is substituting for does not exist in the English language.

Therefore both the pronunciation "Shin", "Sin" and "Sheen" are all correct pronunciations of Xin.

ChaoticPinecone3 votes

No, there are many English pronunciations of Xin. But if its supposed to be the Chinese kanji, its only pronounced one way.

Edit - which is kind of my point. Jatt my pronounce Udyr one way, the Boards pronounce it another, and the Norwegian word for "beast" is another.

As a native Chinese, I assure you that the h sound does not appear in the pronunciation of Xin for either Mandarin or Cantonese. Also kanji is a Japanese term with absolutely no bearing on pronunciation.

ChaoticPinecone1 votes

my bad. I meant to say Hanzi. As in, the symbols in the Chinese written language.

And youre the first to ever say that the American pronunciation from the champion spotlight is correct. Unless that isnt what youre saying. And youre helping me prove my point.

This is the first online dictionary with pronunciation that I found: http://www.putonghuaweb.com/onlinedict/chardict.php?charID=1132

I have no idea where all this "Shin" business comes from.

ChaoticPinecone1 votes

My point still stands. I was responding to the comment that Jatt pronounces Udyr as "Ooo-Dur". And when i brought up the Norwegian word that means beast (which is spelled udyr) and that its pronounced "Ooo-dee", someone brought in the champion spotlight that pronounces it "Ooo-deer".

And im saying that Xin's champion spotlight does NOT pronounce "Xin" the way a chinese person would pronounce it, and champion spotlights arent the greatest example of pronunciation of foreign words.

And its not "shin" as in the shin on your leg. Im saying that its not just a soft "s" as in "Sin". There is an accent on the S that sounds very close to a "Sh" sound. Maybe "ts" is closer to some people. I dont know. But you cant honestly ask me to write chinese words phonographically in english and capture language perfectly.

To be fair, if we assume "Xin Zhao" is a chinese name; it should be pronounce something like /ɕin ʈʂao/; which approximately translates into "Shin Chao".

Rico Nasty1 votes

Hi. 3+ years of Chinese under my belt here. It's pronounced like "Shin Jow", not "Zin Zao", not "Sin Zao", not "Jin Zahow". This has been a PSA.

Hey not to be mean but, wouldn't this get the attention it needs better in the Esports Board instead of the Gameplay?

(Also I agree with you, but it can be easy to mess words up when you are on the spot like they are)

You mean you want the casters to actually know things about the game they're paid to comment on and talk about? They've never known, so why start now?

Ultraboomer1 votes

That still wasn't the case. She got 50% (?) damage reduction on any damage equal to more than 10% of her current health from her passive. and her w active still only gave her a speed boost. The armor and attack damage scaled based on dealing and taking damage, so I didn't count that functionality; However, you could get max stacks (not doubling the value of those stacks) by activating it which is probably what you are referring to.

I didn't even know it did double
