@Meddler Shen's biggest problem as a champion is the power budget given to his Q.

It's nice being able to chunk your laner for 30% at level 1. It's nice that the slow is fairly strong. 50% attack speed is a solid advantage to have in any skirmish. _ But none of those have anything to do with what Shen was, or his identity as a hypertank. All of his other abilities have to suffer to give his Q the strength it has. Hypertanks are supposed to damage the enemy by putting them in positions to hurt themselves._

Things as an old Shen main I'd rather have than 3 strong autoattacks?

  • How about his dash being as strong as it used to be? With the lowered CD, energy cost and ACTUALLY HAVING THE 50% DAMAGE REDUCTION THAT EVERY OTHER TAUNT IN THE GAME HAS, THAT HIS USED TO? All the damage reduction gone just padlocks all 3 of your abilities together on virtually any engage.

  • Making his W capable of blocking more. Maybe counting as a block for 1 ability, similar to the way Fiora's Riposte works but only once.

  • Strengthening his ult to actually be able to compare to all the invincibility ults that severely outclass his, and are on a lower cooldown.

Don't any of those make more sense than him basically just acting as a walking autoattack machine?

Yeah i think the Q change is what killed Shen for me.. I don't like the rework =\

Neither did I, because it completely stripped his identity for no clear reason and made 1 of his 2 existing abilities worse.

I hate that if someone is out of my AA range and my E is on CD, they're safe. IDK howwww many times ive killed someone with 1 last Q pre-rework. Lol

The problem with Shen is...

He isn't Old Shen.

Just give me my damn Old Shen BACK!

EmollientNut01 votes

Well, that too. But I made a long thought out post about that a while back, and it got downvoted in to the ground. I guess all we can hope for is his taunt not to suck now. <3

People didn't like the Old Q, at least those opposed to Old Shen, because they said it was 'binary'.

But it wasn't binary at all, it was so Option laden and brought a ton of complexity to really get the most out of him.

You could Last Hit... but then you had no poke and no sustain.

You could Sustain... but you better be great at last hitting (especially if you have a Sunfire, getting all the targets can be tough without a Q) and you have no poke.

You could Poke... but then no Sustain or Last Hit.

Now, could they have increased the CD on that Q? Sure, absolutely. Things could have been changed, done. But this entirely new Identity sucks, as does his Q which takes him from Tank to Burst True Damage. Why is my Tank a Burst True Damage Champion? What sense does that make?

I will admit, I like the idea of the dodge. I do. Perhaps a lesser version of it could have replaced the Shield, which was in fairness rather weak if you didn't build AP (and no one seriously did). So a Shen-Centric Zone of Dodge might have been a cool deal, on a High CD and Energy Cost worthy of such a powerful Ability.

He was NEVER a Zone Control type. Never. Now he's a Zone Control with Burst True Damage. Just makes zero sense at all.

He was always a Split Push Global Tank with Sustain.

He was balanced, and his Abilities and his Builds allowed for the versatility of both Role and Lane. He could Top, Jungle and Support (and at Low Elo he could Mid to counter Assassins like LB, Akali, Katarin, Talon). He could Split Push. He could Engage Tank Front Line. He could Back Line Peel. He could Bruiser. If you went ham, he could be Full Damage and try to delete you before the Taunt and his Shield from his Ult wore off though that wasn't a viable High Elo Strategy.

They took a Champion who had a huge amount of Variety... in a game begging for more Choices and more Options... and reduced him.

It was dumb, stupid, and all for the point of trying out new Mechanics. Well make a new champ to try that AoE Zone Tether BS with.

ACTUALLY HAVING THE 50% DAMAGE REDUCTION THAT EVERY OTHER TAUNT IN THE GAME HAS, THAT HIS USED TO?

Rammus's taunt has never had 50% damage reduction.

Shen didn't even have that damage reduction when he was first released.

His ult isn't an invincibility ult, dipshit.

It's a global teleport that helps your teammate survive until you arrive to turn the fight around. It's never been an "invincibility ult", and if it was it would be flat out broken.

I'm actually quite aware of his ult and what it does, I have a couple matches played on the guy. But thanks for coming here and being a prick!

His dash is fine. The damage reduction had to be removed since Shen's tankiness builds & W already compensates for it. Plus, the damage of his dash didn't changed at all, and it also now adds up with his Bonus HP built.

Making his W capable of blocking more. Maybe counting as a block for 1 ability, similar to the way Fiora's Riposte works but only once.

Unlike Fiora, tankiness can already cover up this trouble he has right now. Plus, his W can synergize well with his E since his dash forces his enemy to AA him, and that's where his W comes in handy.

Strengthening his ult to actually be able to compare to all the invincibility ults that severely outclass his, and are on a lower cooldown.

Like SaltyKracka said, his ult is basically used to aid his allies from afar in case of trouble, it's never about giving someone invincibility. Even old Shen still has this exact ult.

And yes, I have a Mastery 5 Shen, so I know what I'm talking about.
