A Team Builder Experience
This is going to be more personal and anecdotal and probably long , but whatever, this isn't really for the general public at this point, anyway...
I've been with LoL since Beta, and back in the day I was a pretty good player... in season 2, I was ridiculously good (That Fizz went an entire season before getting nerfed was ridulous - unfortunately season 3 saw him getting Olaf'd)... but with the increasing toxicity of the community and the 30m wait times to launch ranked games, I stopped playing games on the rift in favor of Dominion and ARAM. I still play ARAM a fair bit, but that's tangential...
Anyway, so I have not really played much Summoner's Rift in the past 4-5 years, but every new season I always sit looking at LoL incredibly tempted to get back into SR... the trouble for me in past seasons was the community... my patience would be frayed and my desire to play drained before the game even launched with the real meta of League;
Where you would wait in 5 minute queues to get to Champ Select, sit through a 10 minute ban/argue over position and champ/pick to spite other players session and finally get through it, only to have someone dodge and have to do it again (frequently one more time after that too)... then all you could do was PRAY that, when you finally loaded in, no one was a new player on someone else's account, or a spite feeder / spite afker / rage quitter / terrible internet connection summoner... in my experience probably 50-60% of the games I played had someone that fell into this category, and my team was the odds on favorite to be saddled with that player.
It was beyond frustrating to trudge and luck and carry through games to win 4 in a row for a grand total of 20 elo, only to have that toxic element say "hello" and lose 25 elo in just that one game.
To your credit, Riot, every year you have made great strides toward clearing up those problems, enough that every year I re-test the water and my patience to see how I feel about playing on The Rift.
Every year passed, though, and not enough changed... then like a shining beacon Team Builder appeared, and at the time of its implementation, it served to scratch my itch for playing SR games, in a controlled environment away from the frequent chaos, selfishness, and douchebaggery of ranked/normal.
This year however, it seems like you finally solved most of the problems of past years with ranked, and I've been wanting to see... the problem now though, is that I am woefully out of the living meta (I've probably played fewer than 50 games on The Rift over the past 4 years, and none in ranked for the past 2 years), AND don't have the confidence...or even skill to just hop straight into Ranked.
I'm still a competent-ish Top and passable (for Silver/Gold) Support, but I don't enjoy the finer points of supporting (I'm just a little too selfish), and since I need to know at least 2 positions and always preferred Jungling I started training when you announced the new Ranked set-up.
I went in to custom solo, and just played a few games to first clear and see how the new items, masteries and jungle stats affect my favorite junglers and what to expect.
Then I started playing Team Builder in the jungle to see how it worked in a proper setting and started learning and slowly drilling there to at least become more aware of how and when to poach, when to do dragon, when/how to vision, better map awareness in tense situations, and my biggest issue - ignoring a camp when it's up to go gank/support
There are a lot of things a good jungler needs to do and pay attention to, and just dropping a player new to the position, raw, into a competitive format is terrible for most people looking to expand into it.
Honestly, I want to play games on the Rift, but my experiences with it outside Team Builder have been so disheartening and soul crushing, It's gotten so I don't want to play SR anymore.
Since Team Builder has gone away, I have frequently found myself staring at the launcher client going "Should I queue? I kinda' want to play, but the bullshit... it is too strong."
Honestly, it feels like such a chore outside of the random ARAM games I play with my brother and friend that it's driving me away from the game.
/shrug
I don't expect this will change or help anything, or that you'll magically bring back Team Builder solely from this post... at this point I just wanted to communicate my experiences with the game in general and how the one small change of removing Team Builder from the queue options has affected my relationship with League so negatively this season.
