Riot has been lying quite uniformly on Irelia even for recent designs views

There was the claim about making an overall improvement on her Q that is otherwise no change. So they made it mathematically weaker than an auto, especially in the early game. Don't worry that recent 10% increased minion damage buff will surely help make those trades from hot garbage to warm garbage instead of reverting either the base AD nerf or the scaling nerf that was in the day one hotfix.

There was claims of improved support of champs in off role not long before her release was announced. Riot followed through with that lie by targeted hard nerfs to her jungle even before she was released live. And now there is the passive change which would objectively fall into QoL buff. It only looks like so much of an improvement because the bare was set so low in it's current state.

Riot has made claims, very quickly didn't follow through, and in those cases frankly actively went against those claims, therefore making them lies. Can't even hide behind the line of it was in the past when the teams design views were different for the offrole point like I'm sure others would bring up with graves when he was changed years ago. And there is no reason why there is no response to being shown that there was a pretty distinct mathematical botch up on a skill's tuning.

Irelia rework was the biggest genital tease in a hot minute

Correct me if I'm wrong but, didn't they also said that they will try to make some champs viable in other roles, which was the case with zyra/morg jg? Guess what happened with that, nothing xD

So they made it mathematically weaker than an auto, especially in the early game.

It´s the ability she maxes first on standard builds.

New Irelia isn´t supposed to be winning lanes like Old Irelia was. She's supposed to be weak early, to compensate for the stronger mid and late game.

Although she is still hardcountering certain champions, like Kayle.

Riot followed through with that lie by targeted hard nerfs to her jungle even before she was released live.

They did that to prevent jungle Irelia from completely overshadowing her intended role as a top laner.

Her W, E and R all have AP ratios, and decent ones, making AP Irelia a pretty viable option.

They support off-roles, but they don´t want off-roles to turn out to be outright better than their intended roles.

Morgana/Zyra jungle are off-roles, but are left barely viable because their kits just aren´t designed to jungle. Their ganking is poor, at best, especially on higher elos.

Yes the hotfix hit Irelia hard, but Riot wanted to avoid the whole Zoe/Ornn/Kai'Sa situations. Understandable, although i do think that if Zoe had been gutted on release, Ornn and Kai'Sa not overbuffed, they might´ve gone for a lighter hotfix nerf. But it was very much necessary.

Plus, statistically, Irelia isn´t bad by any means, she's simply suffering what every new/reworked champions suffers. No one wants to play against them, so they just ban as much as possible.
