@riot, Ornn's offensive item upgrades are mediocre compared to support/defensive counterparts

Trinity force should lose the extra mana and spread the gold worth to the other stats, like how abyssal mask doesn't have it's mana increased in the upgraded form. Imagine the tanks reactions if you forced the mana to also be part of the stats that is increased at the cost of the other stats.

Deathcap is still in a state of having a crappy cost and build path in relation to what is given at the end. The item I think needs to have it's cost reduced plus have an improved build path. I would even say it would be better worth to have the AP given reduced but have the passive % value increased. Make the item have it's total value closer to the 3000 gold value in stats and tweat up the passive. That way both the pre/post upgrade is actually worthwhile.

Same this with IE. Everyone that could chose to would desire to have at least some if not all of it's upgraded stat increase to go into crit.

Black cleaver is the only one that would be worth rushing the upgrade, thanks to the simple fair spread of the stats.

Right now the defensive/support item upgrades are in a state of rushing the upgrades while all the offensive items (sans BC) are in a state of upgrading only if you at 6 items + elixir. Frankly the set up of the passive so far feels rather disappointing in its execution for things that should have been rather obvious; lack of lethality item upgrades, poor choice in AP item upgrades (symptom of Dcap being crappy), blatant favoring towards the non damage oriented champs (maybe this blacksmith is just useless at building weapons despite being a forge god).

From a note about recent balance changes:

"Brief note on these. Any team should get some decent value from having Ornn's upgraded items available to them, some combinations of champions will certainly benefit more than others though. That's something we believe's appropriate with Ornn. All champs have synergies with others, and in Ornn's case some of the 'who do I want to pick in combination with Ornn' decision revolves around those upgraded items. We'll likely adjust which exact items get upgraded at various points, and what stats they give, goal isn't to add enough so that every single champ can get a really good choice for themselves though."

The thing is that literally any tank or enchanter benefits from these upgrades a lot to such a point that they would opt into upgrading pre-6 items. Heck even all the BC champs have lots of options since most of them are rocking the stoneplate+locket combo giving them options for how to take advantage of ornn's passive. While on the other items you are actually better off going for the elixir's.

It is one thing to say that some niche champs may not have the best slot efficiency (kog was the example that was used), it is another issue altogether for most of the carry champs to get screwed over when looking at the options of the counterparts.
