Abyssal is weaker in every way. It doesn't have a flat damage active, has half the effect, has worse AP, and is more defense oriented. It doesn't create the unhealthy levels of burst that DFG did. At the same time it is also always consistent, so your abilities will always do just as much, unlike dfg which was a sudden burst of damage you weren't prepared for.

As someone who has played with both one feels a lot more fair to play against than the other.

That's weaker than abyssals previous effect though which lowered magic resist. :l

Now let's read deathfire's active shall we?

Unique: Deals 15% of target champion's maximum health in magic damage and applies the debuff, Doom. Doom amplifies all magic damage that champion takes by 20% for 4 seconds. 90 second cooldown (750 range).

How is that like abyssal scepter which only increases magic damage by 10%?

The active also did 15% max HP magic damage, which is actually why it was a problem.

It gave them another spell on top of a 20% magic damage multiplier.

On top of that, the buildpath was good, and the item was really cheap for what it offered.

What really made DFG an issue was mid-laners using it to repeatedly murder the support to get fed.

No, it was a problem because burst mages and assasin were instakilling with the amp

The only people mages could instant-kill before getting fed were supports. They gibbed supports using DFG+QWE to get fed enough to instant-kill anyone else.

Either you weren't there, or you're absolutely remembering things incorrectly.

DFG lead to a pattern of "kill the weakest member repeatedly to get big", which is a huge part of why it got removed. Once you had enough damage due to getting fed that way, it led to an even worse pattern of "Kill anything in range".

That's why Ahri, Annie, LB and Kata were rushing it, right, because they couldn't kill anyone with it...

He said mages, back then Ahri was an assassin and the difference between a mage and assassin wasn't blurred like it is now. Assassins could kill whoever they wanted with the item as it should have been, while mages like he said, fell to a "kill the weakest link, get fed" playstyle. You're probably going to ask what's Annie's excuse, but frankly she doesn't need one as she's always been an outlier in the mage archetype.

How are supports any squishier than the opposing mid laner or adc?

It was removed because while it was originally intended to be an anti-tank item to an extent it wound up being a much better at killing squishies giving virtually no chance or counterplay converting a number of mages into assassins.

The support will typically be the lowest level member of any team.

Supports were behind in levels due to warding (as it was ONLY their job to do so) and had no way of retaliating as their build would be about 2 gp10 items with shitty stats and wards. Sometimes they'd get 1 or 2 full items by late game, but that was it.

One shotting them was much easier as they were squishier and had no way of fighting back at all.

I'm guessing that style of play was more because of the lack of bounty system that is present now than DFG simply because the value of a player's death wouldn't rise or lower based on their killing sprees or deaths.

WoonStruck1 votes

Levels were much more value because everyone's base stats were lower, but with higher scaling.

TequilaZombie1 votes

If I'm not mistaken there has been a bounty system since season 2 or 3. I remember that you'd be able to get about 100 gold depending how many deaths a person had.
