Changes to Riven that might actually make some sense
No, this is not going to be a PLS NERF RIVEN thread. The problem doesn't even really lie in her kit but the stat efficiency of
, but that's another story. I'm just proposing changes that might in some way even be a buff, but can be a way to turn her into an actually healthy champion and removing the frustration she causes.
1.) Reduce the AoE a little (only a little, mind you), but Increase it a little more in her ultimate. This goes along with the second point:
2.) Give her ultimate an actual feel. You suddely wield a massive broadsword, your strikes are supposed to feel massively different. Heavyier and maybe a tad slower, but murderous and devastating. So, maybe you increase the range, but your attack speed decreases slightly while your Q has to have a little break after every swing. (think about a second or two).
3.) Make the shield directional somehow, so she blocks damage from the direction she dashes to (and maybe a bit from the sides too). That thing is called "Valor" - not "cowardice". It should reward jumping on enemies and not be an escape tool. Riven was designed as an "all-in" champ. A champ with a constant "get out of jail" card in their kit is not really all-in, you gotta admit that. She still could use that to "hop away", but the skill wouldn't be as efficient.
4.) Give her cooldowns meaning again. Ressourceless champs are supposed to be gated by their cooldowns. But a Riven just gets
and
plus some runes and masteries and they are completly meaningless while she still has all core stats she needs. This is more of an item problem, but until this is fixed you gotta push her cooldowns a little.
Point four is the actual problem. Usually playing against Riven early is not that hard. Usually you wait her combo, dodge and trade back and/or you poke her down so she cannot all-in you without the risk of getting killed - but for that you need a certain time window when her Q or the shield are down. With the CDR this time window becomes WAY to small.
So small actually that riven can back off from a minion wave and come back with her skills up without barely losing any cs. Imagine if Vladimir's Pool or Fiora's Riposte had such a low cooldown. With these spells it's sometimes like: "Oh shit I cannot even get close to my currently stronger enemy without this thing up" - and that mostly costs you some minions.
These changes might make her a little harder to play, but should be focussed on rewarding skillful playing more than just random buttonmashing by making her mechanically more complex. Hell, with these changes intact you could even BUFF her and she would be less frustrating than she is now...
