Is it safe to come back now?

Due to my recent distraction with games of the steam summer sale and Overwatch I kinda dropped the ball on league for like 1-2 months.

But the state back then when I left was not exactly a refreshing one either. And since I've been passing by the boards and the usual pages from time to time it doesn't look like it got any better.

From what I have seen at Surr@20 the Ryze rework is just another failure that will probably get a re-re-re-re-work in the future again. Seriously, either make him a damaging mage and give him some awesome spell to blow people up with, or make him a gimmicy mage build around shamless amount of tricky utility. Both would go with the vague "rune magic" thing. However, Riot managed to kinda miss both at once while perpetuating the same mistake since the Juggernaut update when reworking stuff: either go big or go home. Constantly trying to work as minimalistically as possible is not exactly a good way to rake in results.

The new champ teaser... I'm not exactly sure, but it looks like a mix of bland archetypes mashed together for the sake of absurdity. Maybe the lore department will surprise me here, but I doubt it. Talking about lore, Riot seems to have really dropped the ball on that one. Until now not a single plotline has been resolved in any way. Not even minor ones. It's like the writers are too scared to bring literally any storyline to an end, instead the story either adding new elements (shadow and fortune) or more or less being some kind of filler (shurima) with no real conclusion in any way. Literally the only thing that has changed after that story is that some characters have met some other characters and then parted ways again while not achieving anything. Also, the fact that several champs still have no reason to even exist since the rework is still not completed speaks volumes about the department's competence in my eyes.

I have no clue how balance is right now - the boards were never a good indicator for this if I am honest. I hope you can answer me that, but I have the eeire feeling that it's still just as screwed up as always, but I'd be positively surprised if something has changed, ya never know after all.

For me that's kinda weird. Back in the day I was the total fan of this game. I have a fandom blog, wrote fanfics, discussed lore theories, had lol screensavers on every device, and several lol themed shirts at home. I am usually what people consider a "total fanboy". And yet i am not sure if this game is even worth returning to.

Ah yes, and still no SoloQ. Another point that is not exactly motivating when deep down inside you know that your rank means nothing, because every legally boosted noob also has the same. And a fancy badge is not going to fic the premade vs. solo issues either.

So, to repeat my question in the title, is it safe - or rather even worth - to come back now? I'm curious to hear your opinions here.

It's not in it's best state right now. Riot is catering to new players instead of the existing playerbase recently, so it's kind of lost it's depth to me. Not many problems are being addressed and Smurfs are still running rampant in Ranked.

You wouldn't miss anything if you don't come back, but it only hurts a little if you do.

I can see that. The Project and Poolparty Skinlines are just what you'd pump out to score point with a young audience. "Rule of cool"-edgyness and sex appeal. You don't need more to get teenage boys and girls drooling over your content.

Tbh I had been expecting skins with a little more depth or even comedic value. Something built around Coporate Mundo maybe? Just modern-day office style. Simple, yet so full of possibilities. - and I'm not just talking about Office Lady Ahri here! <_<' Or what about skins that show the champion's past or maybe even in cultural outfits? Garen in a demacian parade-uniform would be fascinating, the same for the noxian counterparts.

But that comment about smurfs... usually I have the opposite problem: anti-smurfs. People who got carried by their team and then play solo while being way too bad for the level of play we are on. Dynamic Queue has made matchmaking problematic, as the game might as well mix you in with bronzes whithout noticing on gold level...

I'd wait tilll pre season 7 and hope things get better then, but for now, this season continues as it started and the balance remains on an all time low-,-

If you're a solo player that likes nostalgia and/or can't deal with groups of people for shit, don't.

the balance right is debeatable, however soloQ not being here is a big - to the game.

To be honest, balance has always been debateble, save for the time before juggernauts when I was unsure what to even ban as 2nd and 3rd.

The question is rather just HOW debatable it is right now...

Balance is kinda strange. IMHO current biggest problems is Summon Mages - Zyra Malzahar Azir Zyra wrecks botlane with her plants, Azir wreks midlane and late game, malza is just completely unfun to lane against not even because of his passive, but because of his voidlings. He eats minions so fast you dont really have any opportunity to do damage to him, you have to non-stop farm minions too, and if you can't then you are permanently under your tower.

Rude rework seems to be a success. Especially considering the fact you don't like the fact they gave him utility to balance him out, I'm not sure you looked deep enough.

If you're a mage main now would be the time to come back, mages can get tanky AF while retaining their signature damage, cdr tacked on to just about every core mage item also means they are spammy as hell, so once again, if you like mages, you might enjoy the current state. If not, I'd say stay away.

just deinstalled it on all my pcs 2weeks ago...and i don´t even get my hopes up that they will manage to fix anything they broke with season 7. So far they just make things worse or keep at least ignoring the many issues they created over the years.
