Can we please make Ahri more charm focussed?

So, after a very long time I got to play Ahri again. Had to go mid against a Veigar (the apparently SO OP midlane according to boards), so i thought "Oh wait. Veigar was strong in season two too... What trashed him back then?" And then I had a traumatic flashback from three seasons ago, where I played Veigar and every single Ahri just trashed me and my team.

So I thougt Well, ok then, picked the champ, played a hyper agressive lane and won the game.

Last time I played Ahri she had that damage-amp on her charm. It kinda made sense there, as that is her unique tool to murder people with, but then this made her OP for some reason and she had to nerfed (or was this because of the constant boards crying? I don't really remember). Now her charm does... nothing special. Just nothing. It doesn't feel necessary in my killing combo. Sure, it's useful, but no longer the core of her identity, which is kind of weird, because that's what Ahri was supposed to be about: Pick target, charm them, kill them. It's pretty much the exact same thing she does in her lore.

But wait, this problem can be fixed!

Another thing that always irks me is the passive. Stacking is always a weird thing and her it just feels... clunky? Annoying? I'm not sure.

I'm not saying we should get rid of it, nono, getting health is also in her lore somehow. Charm someone -> suck them dry. Like one really sexy furry vampire.

What do we notice here? The charm comes first. She doesn't sneak around and pickpockets everyone's life-energy. She lure her enemies in first.

Therefore I propose a change: When hitting a target with E, Ahri's abilities now drain life instead of only doing damage (up to a certain cap tho). Hitting Q heals her when it comes back, Foxfires prioretize charmed targets and return from the enemy, healing her too. Not sure if we need to cram in the ult with this too, but it's only an idea.

As a new passive I'd put the movement of her Q here and expand it to all of her spells. A short MS boost upon spellcast that decays rapidly. I don't see any problems with it to be honest as Ahri is supposed to be mobile and hard to catch (and already has quite low base MS to weight up for that).

Of course some other balance tweaks would have to be made for that, but I'd like to see her playstyle to be more focussed around the charm.

I started playing in season 3 and Ahri was the second champion I unlocked. Having played her through numerous changes I can say that Season 4 Ahri that was more focused on charm was the most rewarding and healthiest for the game.

I honestly don't like the changes they forced on her this season. How does a ranged champion with 3 unconditional dashes need help kiting? Also I fell the changes just don't make her as satisfying as she used to be. It used to be really important to land charm and use her ult for re positioning now it just seems like you can all in someone without even having to land charm still get the kill.

The changes just seemed to dumb her down to me where you can still be efficient with her with half the effort which really makes trying to become better on her feel pointless. And why they would ever get rid of one of her core weaknesses shes had since release, vulnerability while her ult is down, just seems counter predictive in making a champion more healthy. It also goes against her design since her high mobility ult has always been justified by the lack of mobility in the rest of her kit.

Ultimately I feel her mini rework failed to meets its goal into making Ahir a healthier champion with better gameplay since the changes clash with her design and personally she just doesn't feel as rewarding to me. I would love for them to go back to a more charm focused gameplay but we see how Riot is about their reworks.

I'd say Veigar does very well against, Ahri.

His cage can shutdown her ult if placed well and of course Ahri has to play pretty close so she just eats his ultimate.

Also she used to be more charm focused and Riot got rid of it, so i doubt they'll go back to it.

Now that his cage is no longe rinstant as it was before it's barely a threat when you pay attention to it.

Well, the thing is, Ahri can go for these items early in the gameitem 3001 item 3020 item 3136 . As most Veigars barely build MR (because they already have a chalice in their passive) this works quite well and flat MR is an ideal start for what Ahri is supposed to do: pick out squishies.

Also, she has quite awesome waveclear and can force Veigar to hug his tower.

And when he does not come out from under his tower, just roam bot and top and be generally more useful than that AP version of Nasus sitting on midlane.

Snowbally Assassins used to shat on Veigar for a reason. I'm kind of surprised people here forgot that...

But it is. Even if you dont get hit by it it can completely zone you away. You either have to use 2 dashes just to get around it or give up and let Veigar just walk away which is burning your ult for nothing.

Yes, used to. Now he has 950 range on his Q which lets him farm for free with enough distance to react to assassins and drop his cage.

You mean that one ability that if it hits is followed by every damage ability she has?

You want it to do damage?

SaltyToplaneGoat1 votes

Sure, it's useful, but not really needed. If I can hit them with my charm, I can also hit them with my Q. So why shoot the one that deals less damage first?

Not necessarely damage, as that has proven to be tricky to balance, but I want it to do SOMETHING.

If you had read the thread I proposed cramming her sustain in there. That's not damage. That's the absolute opposite of damage.

It already does something, it's called CC.

Ahri's kit has no weakness, charm is fine being a single target CC, Ahri for one needs no buffs, specially sustain ones on a champion with mobility, cc and damage.

I really wouldn't say her kit has no weakness. She really doesn't do well under prolonged skirmishes or teamfights. That and she's more single target focused regardless of some of her AOE spells.
