I really love how Riot asks the community for "feedback"

But in reality, they already have the changes in place.

Runes Reforged looks like shit -- goodbye customization and theorycrafting; hello homogenization and broken champs.

Feedback is feedback not implementation. An idea is an idea that gets talked about by the developers. That is all feedback is. Just because an idea you may have doesn't get implemented doesn't mean it wasn't talked about and deemed an idea that might not be good for the game just because you think it is.

They specifically mentioned the system was "very, very, very WiP" and that they were launching the new system later in Sept for the new pre-season, in order to get feedback from the community.

What good is asking for feedback, when you've already decided the "how and the what" of a particular thing?

In another way: Riot already has determined the exact specifics of how the new Rune system will function, and already determined what will be (or not be) in the new Rune system.

where is the theory crafting currently? everyone takes the same pages each game on the same champs....

Chønklord1 votes

Not at all?

I have 20 rune pages with multiple pages for one champion, depending on how I want to play that champ.

I.e. I have Lifesteal Udyr page, Splitpushing Udyr page, Tank Udyr page...

I have a bruiser Fizz page, I have a tank teemo page.

Then you get into runes that are absolutely essential for some champions,

Like mana regen and CDR for Quinn, Udyr, etc.

Just because you don't have the ability or desire to theorycraft and develop multiple pages of runes with specific setups, doesn't mean everyone else is like you.

On no planet is mana regen required on quinn. I promise you are the only person running that.

Just wanted to point that part out

Chønklord1 votes

Ok bud. It's not like her mana costs went through the roof in the last nerf on Quinn.

Have fun playing Quinn while you run out of mana after one or two rotations of abilities :)

tC0gzVJ6rF1 votes

I have never once had mana problems with Quinn. You are probably the same dude that somehow runs oom on caitlyn and vayne too lmao

Chønklord1 votes

Nope; I don't play either of those.

Kai Guy1 votes

I think the oom Caitlyn post your talking about was from Hallbuster the vlad main. Quin blind is strong so I can see running a page to give her more Qs and harassing away at a lane. Not a quin player so take it with a grain of salt.

then I assume you arent into maximizing champion potential. Fun builds compared to theory crafting acceptable strong builds are two seperate things. You can do more theory crafting from items, you dont need theory crafting with runes because they are otherwise unseen while you are in game, most runes only really work early game anyways unless you get per level runes.

Chønklord1 votes

I maximize a champion's rune efficiency off-meta build/playstyle potential ; not their standardized "community accepted" build/playstyle potential.

Kai Guy1 votes

As some one who breaks from meta frequently I would politely disagree. As far as the op, I feel that it depends on the number of different runes provided. We got 9 keystones currently from mastery's, if they bump that up to 15 or 20 that are viable. We would have plenty of room for theory crafting just of keystones, if other runes have solid impact as well huzza. That being said I do expect most folks will follow what they see works.

The problem is there doesn't seem to be any room with the new Runes 2.0 for things like this.

  • Want to Run 6% Spellvamp to make Karthus Jungle viable? Sorry, only Karthus AP in lane.

  • Want to Play 4 different styles of Udyr top (Splitpush, Lifesteal, Tank, AP/Shield)? Sorry, only Udyr jungle.

  • Want to start with 10-15% CDR on Nasus for huge stacks, while sacrificing some armor/MR? Sorry, you're screwed from that too.

  • Want to play Tank On-hit Teemo (arguably the best way to play Teemo right now)? He's dumpstered, sorry.

  • Want to run 20-30 Magic Pen on any AP champion for early game destruction? Nope, don't have those anymore, cya.

  • Want to buff Jhin/Panth/Trynd/Whoever with Crit Damage runes? Sorry fuck you, no crit damage runes available.

I feel ya here, if its just Runes removed and boom new fancy new masteries then I will be disappointed as well. If its a half way mix of select your masteries from any tree and there is fair number of options I will be a bit bummed but still will play. If they give us a freaking Boat load of new shiny goofy toys to play with ima be quite pleased.

I don't follow meta well, Ap trist for the 1 shot with flat or scaling AP runes, Jungled poppy with spellvamp and went hybred and healed for several hundred HP every Q then could god mode dunk their adc., karthus as well, Ori jungle on release cuz she could kite them and her passive gave her a decent clear after the first leash, Played with blue build Draven on release cuz his passive was broken (no muramana or IBG at the time sadly so it was only good for winning 1v1 with the perma MS AS steroid and the fact Frozen heart was broken at the time. turned to crap in teamfights sadly T.T) Used to get flack for playing Nami and going mejais (pre support utility scaling. season 3 or 4 ish.) Still get flack for doing bard as Offtank with AS items, used to get flack for building ZZrot on him when he was released because ZZrot was "garbage" and bard was also "garbage champ". uhh ... I lost my train of though here. I think I was gonna make a point but got distracted remembering all kinds of fun goofy stuff. Don't be a meta slave? If it look stupid but works it aint stupid?

The new system completely axes both runes AND masteries as they currently exist, basically merging them into a single simple interface.

They've already said that champions will likely be getting base stat adjustments as needed to compensate for the loss of certain flat stats from runes.

Ja I read the article. Keystone major minor minor. I just hope they have more options for us then not. From the example listed it looks like they might do something like 3-6 minor options 3 major options 3 keystones and have 3-4 tiers. I like more options and we got time to hopefully convince riot that more is more! when all is said and done thou ill just adapt to what ever happens.

tC0gzVJ6rF1 votes

Yes because there is so much customization right now lol

Pick one of these two masteries until you get to the bottom then pick the only keystone your champ has synergies with (maybe 2 in some cases)

Im an AD champ? Take AD rune page and change nothing unless im against an AP matchup.

Same with AP but reversed lol

Much customize such theorycrafting WOW

Chønklord2 votes

See my reply to the other person below.

There may not be hugely impactful customizational changes right now, but there are definitely important customization options when it comes to selecting rune pages for certain champs and how they're played.

I have 4 different pages just for Udyr because I play him top lane;

I have a page for Tank Karthus, another one for simply CDR/AP straight "Blow them up or Die" Karthus, etc.

With this new setup, it looks as though some champions will either:

A. Be forced to be played only a certain way, since most runes seem to have disappeared (like Spellvamp runes, mana runes etc)

B. Be OP AS FUCK with a particular Keystone/rune setup -- and later get nerfed due to that setup, further pigeon-holing said OP champ into a specific, boxed style of play

C. Completely destroy the viability of some champions or playstyles -- because the runes they relied on no longer exist. (You really think Riot is going to do any meaningful "base stat passes across the board"? You really don't know Riot, then).

Kai Guy2 votes

Given how each preseason has gone I do think some champions playstyles and viability will be impacted negatively, I also think that we got some time still so lets wait a lil to see what toys we will have to play with first.

Go ahead, tell me there's no customization.
