Questions about Jhin's early game...

So, I tried Jhin out a little while ago, and I have a few questions after observing some other players with him in solo queue.

My main question is how the hell do people do well with this guy in bronze? I mean, I heard his early game is strong, and he does have tools to do well but he's really complicated...

Ok, let's break this down into smaller questions, and my reasoning that's probably horribly flawed.

  1. Is Jhin's early game strong?

So, I played him, and found his early game to not be all that great. I mean, his garunteed crit seems to be his main advantage (obviously, barely anyone can crit at level 1, unless you're tryndamere, or you're boasting those +1% crit chance runes). But I really have to question how this actually contributes to his early game. Is it his poke? That doesn't make much sense to me, because at early levels his speed boost is not that great. IIRC, it scales off his level and his attack speed, so the boost shouldn't be all that great. After that he has to reload, so in my mind he'd seem pretty easy to outtrade. Why don't I think it's one of his abilities? Well, because most of them require another ability to use correctly. His long skillshot needs those marks from his traps to work correctly, and his dancing grenade.... well, people aren't standing driectly inside the creep wave, are they? Because that would be silly; if you've played mid once in your life against katarina, you'd know that standing in the creep wave is usually a bad idea in general.

  1. Why does he do so well in solo queue right now, in bronze? His kit requires you to play perfectly to be able to use him correctly. The parts in his kit are all interconnected and hard to chain together, while you also have to manage your ammo, mana, and keep an eye out for marked targets. His deadly flourish may have the longest range of any non-ultimate skill shot in the game, but it is very thin and precise. I'd say a solid 70% of the time, he's going to miss if the target is not cc'd already, and its damage lacks a lot of impact; it's mainly used for the root to make sure they don't get away while you crit them to death. This either requires team coordination (in bronze? lol) or them to hit your traps. Even then, I've still seen a lot of Jhin players still whiff their deadly flourish even after they've been slowed by a trap. His ult is also a huge risk because the projectiles do move somewhat slowly, and it's not hard to miss with it.

I guess that maybe sums it up. At the very least, if I understand this strange phenomenon of him getting super fed early on and destroying my games, I can at least give my allies some advice. What they do with it is up to them, but I would like to know what could help them out so that hopefully I don't get dragged into another lost game because they can't deal with Jhin.

i picked up jhin about last week and can honestly say he does have a strong early game. due to that crit shot he does a good bit of damage early game and youd be surprised at how many jhin players time the grenade so that it bounces when you get sorta close to them. ( i bounce them of the mage minions so it hits the adc or support.) good jhin players will also use abilities during his reload time maintaining his damage with grenades and laying down traps and setuping up for the next clip unload. jhin players will find themselves getting used to the narrow skillshot deadly flourish. i miss it a couple of times but i generally hit it same is said for his ult.

now the thing that shines about jhin is that he is pretty amazing in teamfights. so 2v2 on bot is perfect. seeing how in early game his autos deal more damage than most of the other adc's the instant the enemy support or adc get hit by an auto or ability jhin can go in with his own cc.

btw if your playing against a smart jhin player he more than likely will fire his first 3 shots at minions for farm then save the last shot for poke.

some supports that go great with jhin. Alistar Blitzcrank Sona Braum Bard

on another note. some jhin players (including myself) during ult wont fire all shots. if i manage to kill the desired target but there is still another at full health ill just cancel seeing how his ult does only good damage if your missing health and due to the cooldown being reduced for each shot you didnt fire.

I also noticed that this point divides jhin players; I've seen a lot of them that use their ult on retreating enemies trying to hit each one so their team can come in and clean them up, while others may execute one person than cancel and save their last shots to reset the cooldown... Don't know which is more effective, honestly.

ah, I see. So, I guess I'm underestimating his early crits.

So, it seems that I should advise people to stay out of the creep wave more, and stay far out of range when he's on his fourth shot. XD

exactly. if you see jhin just sitting on that last shot dont even engage. youll take a hard hit in the early game. especailly at lvl 1.

god save you if he hits you with it a full build late game.

you definitely need to keep an eye on his ammo.

just to give you another heads up. his deadly flourish doesnt really need team co-op for it to be effective. all it needs is one ability or auto from jhin or allies just to be able to root the target.

heck i recently found out you can deadly flourish a person off of thornmail and sunfire cape.
