Noob Test: Why is Vayne so strong late game?
I look forward to your responses.
I look forward to your responses.
Because late game we don't have room for
Because her low range has to be balanced out by something. If she only did mediocre damage, she would be high risk, low reward. As an ADC, she most likely will have only 1 if any defensive items against full build burst mages and assassins. She is also exclusively single target DPS with no poke, range, or AOE so she better at least be good at it. One thing she does have going to her is that she is a bit more self-sufficient in a 1v1 than other ADCs like Kog, Jinx, Varus, etc that are immobile and rely on their team to peel because of her high single target DPS and stealth if they dont have a pink ward.
Also, the difference between champions like Kog'maw/Jinx/any other normal AS+Crit building ADC (not AD casters like Varus/Jhin/MF) and Vayne is that the former will most likely go Runaan's fairly early on, which grants them much better waveclear and AoE damage as compared to someone like Vayne, who will still remain limited to mostly going around and picking off people 1 at a time.
Because she has enough damage built into her kit (in the form of the AD steroid from her ult, her W, and I guess her Q) that she can afford to build a bit more bulk than most other ADCs without having to sacrifice as much damage.
In particular, the fact that she doesn't need to buy a Last Whisper and can instead get items that give both defense and offense (maw, bloodthirster, mercurial) and a straight defense item (typically guardian angel) while still dealing huge DPS in the late game makes her late game really strong.
A Vayne that builds like a Jinx (which is to say, full damage most of the time) is actually pretty easy to blow up and counter late game by a competent team, due to her relatively short range. But because Vayne can build some defense without sacrificing her damage too badly she is very hard to pin down and kill, especially when combined with her mobility and stealth.
Oh, and I guess she also can fuck the face of assassins 1v1, which is pretty nice.
Best Answer so far.
She's Batman.
Because she's a hyperscaling lategame ranged carry that builds off attack speed and critical strike chance. Her combination of her Q dash, her W true damage, her E knockback into a potential stun, and her stealth + increased damage/MS from her ultimate make her an amazing 1v1 duelist as well as flanker, and like any other lategame ADC, she excels at taking towers.
Because bad players don't push her out of lane and let games go to 40+ minutes.
well vayne wears sunglasses so she is a natural counter to

Because she does a shit ton of max% true damage which you can't itemize against.
Because of her insane 4.25 ad ratio on a 2 second cooldown that also gives her stealth and mobility.
2/5 got it right so far. Keep em coming.
She is and she isn't. While her damage is a hyper carry her limited range makes it very important for her to play safely. Her kit does allow for a lot of out play potential however is a equal skill situation that would be limited by her opponent choice of champion. If you have a strong protect the Vayne team it can be highly effective.
So the answer to your quest is yes and no and largely depends on the situation. If the enemy team has superior range and disengage with a decent front line vayne really isn't strong at all. However if the enemy team has a shorter range team or lack in the cc to stop vaynes front line she is actually pretty weak.
She's an ADC.
Cant buy pinks late game
True damage is at max scaling and Tumble are maxed out ( 2 skills that scale extremely well as the game goes on )
Untouchable
Lifesteal so prominent that even if shes hit it wont matter
Health scaling true damage. Completely illogical.
It's not illogical if it has a 10 seconds cooldown and deals 2% you know.
Because people constantly say that. I have no real opinion and understand nothing. I am a mindless sheep that believes everything he hears and bandwagons.
You don't have to just accept it because everyone says it. It's a statistically verifiable fact.
I know that, I was just being sarcastic and poking fun at people that eat whatever popular opinion.
she doesnt need armor pen she has really good duel potential her invisibility lets her get some distance between her and you and start autoing for lifesteal and getting a lot of hp back (from my experience with this new shiv/ie/bt build that i dub kansur) she scales off attack speed really hard with her w her ult ad steroid is very good her q can do a lot of damage once you get some ad
and the obvious i cant 1v1 her ad darius past 30 minutes kappa
Alright boys, looks like the thread is slowing down, so that means it time for the real answer.
Vayne is so strong late game for several reasons, and those reasons, in order of importance are:
Vayne cannot be killed 1v1 by anti-carries and assassins late game assuming she plays correctly. That means that isolating the Vayne and trying to kill her is the wrong play whereas it is the correct play against most other adcs. This means the enemy team needs to dedicate multiple champions to killing Vayne, relieving pressure from the rest of her team.
Vayne gains more from raw stats than nearly every other adc due to how her Q and W scale. The more stats every champion in the game has, the more strength Vayne has in overall power compared to her opponents.
Vayne's low CD mobility and stealth make her basically impossible to lock down with anything but targeted hard CC. The addition of a QSS means you now need 2 hard CC's and you need to apply both of them one after the other.
Vayne's silver bolts make her target agnostic, meaning that being zoned and forced to attack a tank doesn't hurt Vayne nearly as much as it does other adcs. And in the late game, the team whos tanks lasts longer usually wins the teamfight.
Due to her natural armor penetration, Vayne can choose to pass on Armor penetration items and instead build items to enhance her survivability, such as a PD, Mallet, Banshees, Steraks, etc. While this will still significantly lower her damage against tanks, she will still be too much of a threat for them to simply tank and she will gain massively increased survivability in return.
Notice how Silver Bolts are at the bottom of the list? That's because it's her least impactful ability once late game hits. Her bolts really spike in effectiveness in the mid game and become overshadowed by her auto attack damage more and more as the game goes on. 12% max health damage starts to matter less and less once you're critting people for 1000 damage. The real reason Vayne is so strong late game is because she has the strengths of an adc, bruiser, and assassin all in one, making her basically impossible to deal with in any way other than swarming her and hoping for the best. And late game, spending that much resources to shut down 1 champion will often lose you the teamfight even if you succeed in killing her and you'll often fail to kill her anyway. ** TL;DR **_Vayne is so strong late game because she's stupidly hard to kill (assuming she's played properly) at the time of the game where adcs as a role are strongest. By comparison, champs like Jinx, Draven, and Jhin all fall off late game despite their insane damage simply due to their lack of safety. _
