It's ok to give up in ARAM

Just played a game where the odds were clearly against us. I knew from the start we were going to lose but my team refused to believe it. We had:

Twitch Galio Cho' gath (Me) Gragas Garen

They had:

Corki Veigar Miss Fortune Morganna Vladimir

If you didn't see the problem the first time reading this, read again. We had virtually NO poke coming from a twitch that was probably the worst AD carry in ARAM. This doesn't even justify that tanks are COMPLETELY useless in ARAM. I'm not saying ARAM is totally luck based however overwhelming, but in a match like this, I called FF 2 minutes in the game. I told them there was no way we were going to win and might have killed team morale by telling them it was over the entire duration of the game. However, I am completely justified to say we should give up because there is no use trying if there is no chance of success.

Uhhh what? Have you ever played against an aggressive full item (or near full item) late game tanky team in ARAM, especially if they have warmogs?

The matchup isn't even that bad, certainly not something you can call a loss from the beginning. They have the advantage early but assuming you guys play smart and don't just repeatedly feed out your ass your team can scale to be tanky enough where they can't deal with you guys and protect Twitch.

Its not even a hard team to itemize against. 4/5 of their team are primarily doing magic damage, and you have a Galio on your team who has a magic shield. Just make sure MF doesn't get ridiculously fed early and Galio, Cho, and Garen are golden.

It seems that the OP rushed Rabadon's Deathcap and Frozen Heart against that team.

I think I see the issue.

That isn't exactly a bad match-up.

Gragas, Galio and Cho'gath all provided waveclear which would have let you counter the enemy team's push. Start with Guardian Horn and Sapphire Crystal, endure the poke, waveclear and you will outscale them in the mid-game.

Your team had a good mixture of damage types (two physical, three magic) while the enemy team had four magic-damage dealers and Miss Fortune. You could have simply purchased a Chain Vest while stacking health and MR to deal with them.

If Twitch was protected (and reasonably competent), he would be able to deal massive amounts of damage in teamfights due to his ultimate + Runaan's Hurricane. Considering how squishy the enemy team was and how much CC your team had, it wouldn't have been too hard.

Frankly, your build just sucked. Chogath item 3111 item 3110 item 3089 item 3010

You had no other sources of AP for Deathcap to scale with and the enemy team only had one source of physical damage (and Frozen Heart was useless against their magic-damage dealers).

Yes, you needed to go RoA then straight HP and MR. Same with Gragas and Galio. Get an early chain vest then finish it later (with the amount of HP you would have had at the end, especially as Cho, thornmail would have been a good possibility).

Honestly, I'm not even sure if I would have bothered with Rod of Ages.

I'd have probably build along the lines of:

=> item 2051 + item 1027 for Health/Mana sustain => item 3024 + item 3067 for provide CDR => item 3111 to reduce CC and magic damage => item 3194 to reduce repeated instances of magic damage (i.e. Corki's R/AA, MF's E, Morgana's WR, Vladimir's QWE) => item 3109 to keep Twitch alive => item 3065 to amplify healing from my passive, health regen and Knight's Vow => item 3001 to amplify my team's damage => item 3190 for massive shields

My final build probably would have been item 3029 item 3111 item 3065 item 3083 item 3075 (item 3194, item 3001, or item 3190 depending on how game was looking. If late game going well and MF not huge issue might even use one of the MR items instead of thornmail, or maybe even stoneplate) (not necessarily in that order). I suggested RoA because it seems like he wanted some damage, and with his team some damage early probably wouldn't have hurt.

The fact that the team had so many tanky people gives you options on who gets abyssal, knights vow, etc. You just need to make sure you communicate with your team so everyone is on the same page in regards to the more supporty tank items.

You had ok poke with Gragas, Galio, and Cho'gath Q. Sure they had more poke, but only Vlad would really be durable so proper usage of CC would win teamfights.

You're right that it's ok to surrender in ARAM, but you're not justified in giving up so easily. I've played games where my entire team was a bunch of divers vs a rather well balanced group. We won simply because of chaos in teamfights when we kept focusing on different people (it was a clusterfuck) but outside of teamfights we were at a constant disadvantage.

Going in with a negative attitude and practically killing moral from the get go only made it worse for you.

Every game is winnable, it all depends on how the players play.

Don't bother. Wanting to lose less time by ending a clearly one-sided match is frowned upon these forums. Forcing you to waste 35 minutes in a match that you will lose is where it's at.
