If Teemo's E Doesn't Proc Rylai's and Liandry's . . .

ArnoldSchwarzens··23 votes·5,735 views

Why do the on-hit abilities of Kayle and Ivern do? Either make all on-hit abilities count as spells to let them proc spell effects or none of them, but don't make it as inconsistent as it is right now. If I want to know what part of my kit synergizes with things like Deathfire Touch, Rylai's etc. I don't want to have to go in a custom game to test it, I want to be able to know by reading the tooltip.

Kayle Ivern are active/situational

Teemo is a permanent passive

Makes perfect sense to me. If Teemo's E applied Rylai's it would be pretty broken tbh. Kayle has to spend mana and burn a cooldown for hers to apply Rylai's. Her normal Melee attacks do not. Ivern's W is a situational active which means it only activates under certain conditions as opposed to on demand. Teemo, on the other hand, has no conditions and is a 100% up-time passive with no cost. It also lasts 4 seconds so you would be getting a 5 second slow from Rylai's every single auto for free lol.

Sorry, but if you dont see the difference I'm just going to say there is some sort of bias going on here. Its pretty clear why it works on one and not the other.

Alright, just tested Yi's E in combination with Rylai's. Of course you are never going to build something like that, but Yi's E doesn't apply it. Even though it is not a permanent passive and an active.

Looking at it now, it would probably have made more sense to test the whole thing with Fizz' W instead of Yi's E, because that makes more sense. Maybe I'm going to do that tomorrow.

Point is, this is not about balance, I'm caring more about inconsistency and the unreliability of tooltips and definitions and how confusing it all is.

For example - I played a Teemo game some weeks ago where I was deciding between Thunderlords and Deathfire Touch. I went for Deathfire Touch, thinking that his E would proc it, because its tooltip says and I quote: "Your damaging abilities cause enemy champions to take magic damage over 4 seconds." Teemo's E is one of his damaging abilities, so it just makes sense that it would proc it. I'm not mad because I think Teemo would need this as a buff or something, I'm just mad because the game gave me information that was just straight out not true.

I just want to look an ability or an item and it's description and be sure about what it does - I don't want to test the whole thing in a custom game first, where I have to farm 5 minutes against bots to get the item I want to test.

I thought that was just a single case but lately I'm running into unreliable tooltips and wording pretty frequently when I'm making one of my builds. One of these cases was the one I made this post about.

Yi's E isnt magic damage but true damage so it wouldnt apply rylai's. And it does work on Fizz trident strikes

That isn't how it works; damage type has nothing to do with whether an item applies on-spell effects.

Cho'gath's ultimate is true damage and it still applies Rylai's Crystal Scepter. Urgot's Q and E are physical damage but they would still apply Rylai's Crystal Scepter.

If you want to know this type of stuff, go to leagueoflegends.wikia.com and click on expand on the champion's ability. It will give you a full rundown.

While your advice is helpful, nobody should have to use third party programs/websites to learn about the game.

Doesn't brand's passive apply them though? Anyway, the better build is Frozen Mallet anyway for the constant slow and buckets of health.

If Rylai's worked on Teemo, Rylai's would be a much better buy than Frozen Mallet because of the AP. Probably good that it doesn't work, though.

it's not inconsistent. kayle's E is considered a spell effect due to the aoe effect that it applies on-hit.

teemo's E is an on-hit effect, nothing more nothing less. furthermore, if teemo actually applied deathfire/rylai's/liandry's, that would be beyond stupid.

EDIT: why am i getting downvoted? i literally just stated why certain things interacted with rylai's lol

UberAffe3 votes

yes, but is something that you shouldn't need to test or look up online to find out if it does interact.

I don't imagine it would be very difficult to have an items tooltip change to give information relative to who is looking at it. As an example if a teemo looks at rylais in shop the tooltip would state that it has 100% effectiveness on q and whatever% on R. If a teemo has a rylais and anyone hovers over the item in teemos build then it says those things.

Actually, if it would proc because the AOE counts as a spell effect, only everything around the target of your autohit would get slowed, not the target itself.

Kayle procs her E damage 2 times per auto - as an on-hit on the actual target of her auto and as an AOE effect on everything around the target ( http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Kayle ).

Also, if you could explain it away like that, it would still be inconsistent. Ivern's on-hit is also single-target and still applies Rylai's slow.

HE GETS IT.

Kayle's E has two portions actually, passive and active. The passive part is her on-hit damage, and will not apply Rylai's or Liandry's. However, the active splash portion is on-attack, meaning it will trigger even if Kayle is blinded, or if her attacks are dodged, blocked or parried. The second part is what is considered a spell effect, and thus Kayle's E attacks will apply Rylai's, Liandry's, etc. as an Area of Effect ability when active.

Also, I'm fairly certain the splash portion applies not only to surrounding enemies but also her main target. I may be wrong though.

To be honest though, the DoT portion of Teemo's E should be considered a damage over time spell effect, but it's for some reason considered an on-hit.

And strangely enough Ivern's W procs spell effects as a damage over time effect, when no part of his W passive or active is even remotely damage over time. What?

Also if we want to get more inconsistent, Ivern's Daisy does not proc spell effects on her basic attacks, while other summoned minions (e.g. voidlings, Tibbers) do.

His E does damage on hit and THEN over time damage.

MunchCrunchLunch1 votes

IF THEN WHY THE FUCK DOES RAGEBBADE PROCS HER E AS WELL.

IF THEN WHY THE FUCK DOES RAGEBBADE PROCS HER E AS WELL.

If you talking about Kayle, you would notice her E makes her melee damage with "range". Just like how GangPlank's Parleey still counts as Melee.

thats not what i meant. i meant the old devourer passive phantom hit

Boy, I sure am seeing a lot of people who can't understand logic in here... I understand why you are getting downvoted now lol.

Because isnt teemo enough cancer

passives =/= abilities. Only an active spell effect procs it. thats why teemos E - a passive - doesnt proc it while kayles AoE - an active - does.

think of it like this; if liandries doesnt proc, neither will rylais.

Gladston1 votes

well chos spikes apply both and they have also no cost and are permanent

invisiblecat11 votes

Imagine how broken it would be for a teemo to have item 3022 a permanent slow on item 3022 his basics?

Wolfess1 votes

I think it's because teemo's is an on-hit effect and then damage over time, not a spell

whereas cho's, rather than being an on-hit effect, causes an entire wall of spikes. Those spokes are not on-hit effects, they are a skillshot that triggers on-attack, not on-hit. therefore the projectiles count as a spell and proc rylais.

also rylais triggering on teemo's E would be way too strong, every attack would be a slow with good HP and AP gains and would make him absurdly broken.

kayle's procs it because it adds the aoe spell effect and also is NOT permanently turned on, you have to cast it and it costs mana.

as far as ivern, idk. The properties oh his bush atk are still not completely known to me since he's still so new. I currently can only figure that they allow it because the bush is not permanent and it is static, so it can only be done in fixed locations.

AirKingNeo1 votes

Kayle's is a spell and only applies on the AoE effect of her E and no the on hit. Ivern I don't know.
