My 6.23 Yi Build - Guinsoo's is Bonkers! Also Theorycrafting for Kog'Maw Build.

item 3158 item 1419 item 3153 item 3124 item 3026 item 3071 Attack Speed Quints, AD Marks, Armor Seals, 3 MRperlvl Glyphs, 6 CDRperlvl Glyphs 18-12-0 Fervor of Battle Smite-Ghost

It seems a bit weird at first but let me explain.

At first glance you might wonder about the Ionian Boots. That's because with the new Guinsoo's, BotRK, Sated Devourer, Runes and Masteries you will reach already 2.5 attack speed, so you can't go for Berzerker's. In fact, you will already slightly overcap with max Guinsoo's stacks though this really isn't that much of a problem, since it means that you will get those stacks faster.

You might also think that defensive boots are better and that the build is missing defense in general. I think that that's really not the case. With this new build, I find that offense is the best defense. By that I mean that after you got the opportunity to catch yourself a target, you will be extremely hard to catch yourself. You will kill the target really fast with all your damage and because of the added CDR, you will have your Alpha up almost instantly after the kill reset. Even without the kill reset, your alpha will be up really often. With all the extra auto-procs you get from Guinsoo's Rage and Double Strike you will only need about 3-4 auto attacks until your alpha is off CD again, at 2.5 attack speed. Your goal is to deal as much damage as possible and if you time your alphas perfectly, you should have enough defense to survive most fights and go in kamikaze-mode, when the opportunity shows itself. And even if you get caught, you still got the GA as a backup.

In general I just really like the CDR on Yi, even outside of the Alpha strike. As I already said, it also really helps a lot with the kill resets, since you don't actually get a full reset with a kill but instead it just reduces all your spells CD's by a percentage. By buying CDR, this percentage is siginificantly lowered.

Not only that, you also have Highlander up way more often which is crucial to Yi's kit. If Yi doesn't have either his Ghost, his Highlander or his BotRK up, it's nearly impossible for him to stick to targets. This build doesn't only help with the Highlander CDR bt also actually with having Ghost up more often, because of the Ionian Boots passive.

Lastly, I really just like how cheap these boots are for what they grant you, this means that you get the movement speed spike much earlier which helps a lot with the early midgame.

It's also important that you pick up the items in the order you can see above. Bloodrazor and Boots obviously have priority but you don't want to get Guinsoo's until you already have the attack speed and extra on-hit from BotRK. You also want BotRK relatively early because the active is super important and at least on this patch, you would just kill yourself really fast without the lifesteal.

Let's get into that next. I know that this bug exists right now and you can definitely feel its impact - I really hope they hotfix that soon instead of just waiting until 2 weeks. But even with that being a thing, I personally experienced a power boost for Yi in general. The new build gives Yi just so much more damage and utility that I think that it more than makes up for it - Yi is definitely better than before.

The GA is to round out your build and allow more bold dives and kamikaze - in that way it really is more of an offensive than a defensive item. Because of all the CDR you have, it's actually not even that unlikely that you will have your Alpha up after reviving, which means that you can sneak some unexpected surprise kills after the enemy tries to focus you.

The Black Cleaver is the cherry on the cake. It maxes out your CDR and gives you some AD that you are kinda lacking, since you invested most of your gold in attack speed and on-hit. The HP combined with the resistances from GA also gives you a lot of effective HP and the movement speed boost on-kill and on-hit works really nicely with your kill-chaining kind of playstyle. Lastly, I really like it's synergy with the percentage damage from Bloodrazor and BotRK, since armor usually is the main counter to that kind of damage and the penetration from Black Cleaver helps with that.

Once they remove the Guinsoo's bug and the PBE buff for Fervor comes through, I think he will finally have an average winrate again. I just hope he'll not be too strong, though I'm still unsure about that.

Another champ I wanted to talk about is KogMaw . I suck extremely hard at plaiyng marksmen and I rarely play ranged champions so I won't test my build for him myself - but I'd like you to do it.

item 3006 item 3153 item 3124 item 3085 ( defensive item ) item 3031 Attack Speed Quints, AD Marks, Armor Seals, MRperlvl Glyphs 18-12-0 Fervor of Battle Heal-Flash

Since I've already found out how awesome the buffed items are on on-hit carries, I thought I'd also make a build for THE archetype on-hit carry - Kog'Maw.

Even though the winrate of Kog was really low last patch I think the combination of the item buffs this patch and the Fervor plus W buffs for him next patch will make him a viable champion again.

Let's talk about the build itself though. Because of his W I wanted to aim to get ( almost exactly ) 2.5 attack speed as fast as possible and get as many on-hit as possible. With BotRK and Guinsoo's it's basically the same as on Yi - BotRK is a really nice early to mid-game dueling item and you want get Guinsoo's after it to have some initial attack speed and on-hit to work with. The Hurricane gives even more of that and also makes your on-hits spread to nearby targets.

From then on you basically have your damage core and you can go for a defensive item. This can be pretty situational, you could pick up a QSS or even a GA if you're struggling really hard - the standard defensive marksman item slot.

From there on it was kind of hard for me to decide what to get next. More on-hit and attack speed items weren't possible since you already have max attack speed after building your core. Getting a LW upgrade was also out of the question because even marksman Kog does pretty much half magic half physical damage, so a lot of the penetration would be wasted.

Since it's an on-hit based build and not an auto attack crit-based build I didn't even consider an IE at first. Kog'Maw also has one of the worst crit scalings of all marksmen, if you compare it to a Vayne or a Jinx for example. But at second view I found that it was the perfect item to round the build out. You actually get more AD than initially expected, if you consider the AD you have from BotRK, Guinsoo's, IE itself and if you consider the fact that Fervor now gives AD too. Buying crit will also allow you to better synergize with the lifesteal from BotRK, which would otherwise be not as significant if you only would focus on on-hit. Lastly, Hurricane gives 30% crit itself and I realized that if you wouldn't pick up an IE, that crit chance would be somewhat wasted in turn.

This way you are not only an on-hit threat, but also a threat with your basic attacks themselves to combine for shitton of damage - at least in theory.

I've also just got the idea that maybe IE might not be the ideal choice because you could get an Essence Reaver instead. I can't really tell how important exactly CDR on marksman Kog'Maw is but it might be worth it to pick it up instead of an IE and switch out 6 of the MRperlvl Glyphs with CDRperlvl to reach 40%. On the flipside you would of course lose out on some upfront damage. You have to decide for yourself.

Hope you liked the post, let me know what you think. C:

Essence Reaver would be better than IE if you're planning to cast more than 2 or 3 spells, since Void Ooze sucks down so much mana.

The issue with the kog'maw build of Bork+ Rageblade is that for 6k gold you can get a more reliable and more powerful powerspike with just IE+Stattk shiv on kog'maw that is 1k gold cheaper then Bork+ rageblade. On top of that you can get hurricane 3rd item for just as powerful lategame along with insane waveclear and dps. On top of a cheaper build path that also allows you to stack bloodthirster+ mecurial scimitar for a very safe late game :D.

item 3124 is currently bugged on MasterYi. You will literally, and yes, I do mean LITERALLY, kill yourself with this item set because of item 3124. As in, you will apply the on-hit effects and damage on yourself.
