Earlier this year, I started Factions, a community-powered game mode in which Summoners fight for in-universe factions (like Demacia or Ionia) using faction-specific rosters. The limited rosters give each faction distinct strengths and weaknesses, and give matches a fun thematic component. Match outcomes influence the course of each arc's storyline.
So far, we’ve had three full story arcs, with many thousands of Summoners signing up and over 500 matches played, including shoutcasted tournament matches. We'd eventually like to get Riot to implement an official version.
We've just finished the third arc, "Discord". We're now in an intermission between arcs, during which time all factions are available, matches are unscored, and Summoners need not declare for any specific faction. It's a great time to jump in and try out the various factions.
