My Proposal to Bring Back Flat Armor Items: The Helmet of Lokfar

I think that the biggest problem with items like Frozen Heart and Thornmail is that they are so eclipsed by items like Randuin's Omen and Sunfire Cape due to their Health bonuses. These bonuses are quite large, and against true damage champions such as Vayne and Irelia they're invaluable. The final nail in the coffin for the healthless armor items is the armor penetration items, specifically Last Whisper, which makes them borderline useless on even the most mana hungry champions. This new item I'm proposing will give a little bit of health for the healthless armor items.

Helm of Lokfar

Build path:

item 3024 + item 3211 + 1337 gold

250 health

250 mana

30 Armor

50 Magic Resistance

10% Cooldown reduction

Unique Passive: Every point of armor grants +2 bonus health. Every point of magic resistance grants +2 mana. The health bonus is halved on items with health bonuses already in place.

So basically a trinity force of defensive stats? I kinda like it. Also, the guy who said he doesn't like it didn't do the math. Without the passive it's nowhere near gold efficient. Plus exact numbers and costs would be determined by riot. Right now without the passive it costs 3687 gold and gives you 3083 gold of stats for only 83.6% efficiency. Although I don't understand why this part is here: The health bonus is halved on items with health bonuses already in place. To discourage people from building this item along with other health items? Seems like a strange way to buff frozen heart and thronmail. Also, a solid defensive item that gives mana is great, currently tanks/bruisers are dominated by manaless champions since they don't have proper tradeoffs. A great tanky item that gives mana might encourage people to play a tank/bruiser top other than renekton, shyvana, lee sin, and mundo.

I think I like it.

Well I think the problem would be that stuff would start to get out of control ever since item 3207 gave 25% bonus health. You start stacking health on top of that, and things start to get ridiculous. One game I faced a Mundo Jungle with 7K heatlh, I don't even want to know what kind of ridiculous health he'd be able to get if this thing gave full stacks on Randuins or Sunfire. But yes, what you said about the mana tanks was kinda what I had in mind. This item is specifically meant to benefit mana intensive tanks such as Alistar Blitzcrank and Udyr, as well as tanks who normally woulnd't need massive health amounts due passive armor bonuses and other means, such as Rammus and Amumu. I'm glad you like it, I hope Riot incorporates something like this, we need a more reliable defensive "triforce" item for tanks (item 3026 just isn't up to snuff for that yet.)

So here are my problems with this:

  • Lots of free stats. Natural armor/MR and armor/MR runes/masteries mean this item is pretty damn cost efficient with relatively little effort put into it.
  • This is an item for mana using tanks. There are a good amount who don't use mana so they lose a ton of benefits from this.
  • Frozen heart is hardly eclipsed by Raunduins/Sunfire. I've seen a large amount of people get it. It's Thornmail that needs a buff. I don't think an entirely new item is necessary.
