So CLG got second place at MSI and finished 4th so they went to worlds when TSM won. Why? Why did it matter if TSM won or lost, i am a bit confused as to why did it matter if TSM won finals or lost. Why couldn't they go to worlds if C9 won for example?

In other words, TSM was going to worlds no matter what, as they would've gotten the 2nd seed on champ points if they lost to C9, but that would've bumped CLG to the 'final boss' of the gauntlet (where immortals ended up). Since TSM won, their points don't matter, leaving CLG the highest for 2nd seed. If CLG had beat immortals in the 3rd place match, they'd have gotten 2nd seed no matter what with 160 points.

JoroA1 votesAah i see so the winner of the finals auto qualifies no matter his points and since TSM won the second team with the most points qualifies wich in this case is CLG.
One last question: Does a team need certain ammount of points? Lets say that tsm wins finals and CLG has only 80 points but are still with the most points compared to the rest of the NA teams. Will they stll auto qualifiy?
MeilinII1 votesThat's right, the winner of summer auto-qualifies as 1st seed and the team with the highest points other than the winner gets 2nd seed. Then the 3rd seed is decided by the gauntlet/regional qualifiers.
There's no minimum points (whoever has the most points after summer split gets 2nd seed, period), but the winner of the Sprint Split (this year, CLG) gets 90 points as a base, so that's a huge advantage if they don't win Summer. There'd have to be some crazy bullshit where the top 6 from summer are COMPLETELY different from Spring for that to be the determining factor (in other words, for the 90 points to get you 2nd seed alone). I mean, you'd have to have teams come up from the relegation tourney in one split for that. Generally, a 1-2 seed in Spring and a showing in Summer, or a 1-2 in both splits, will net you the points, as shown by CLG's point breakdown.

Stillname1 votesAlso if a team gets eliminated from the league they are in, all of their points are taken away. This is done through the promotion tournament and they don't lose their points if they re qualify.
So even if a team gets the 90 points from winning the spring split but completely tank in the summer split they won't be eligible for the gauntlet anyway.
This happened to Origin this year as they would have had 70 points from the spring split 2nd place giving them enough to make it into the gauntlet over UOL but they lost in the promo tournament so they lost all of their points.
Shadowatom1 votesOrigen requalified. It's if you even have to go through the promotion tournament you lose all your points. Requalifying doesn't save them, it's literally just having to go through it (just in case you don't requalify, since promotion used to be at the start of the following season I think, but they've changed it now so it's before playoffs... they'll still probably keep the rule just because it makes sense).

III BAKURYU III 2 votesRiot made the Spring split and the whole YEAR matter instead of having a Spring split being 100% USELESS and only having the Summer Split matter for Worlds.
So which ever team performs best overall the full year gets credit instead of just a team that pops off during the Summer split.
CLG won the Spring Split. While C9 lost in the first round. Immortals lost in the second round. CLG didn't win Summer Finals but unlike C9 the previous split they weren't eliminated in the first round in the Summer Playoffs. So overall the full year CLG went further than C9 and Immortals.

If worlds is in October, then why is what you accomplished in May a determining factor in going to worlds?

YCitizenSnipsY1 votesIt doesn't matter that much. Back in week 5 NV was tied for first with TSM, did that matter? Back in week 7 TL beat C9 to be the third place team. Did that matter? P1 beat TSM, did that matter?
The only way to Qualify for worlds should be the Playoffs and the Gauntlet.

III BAKURYU III 2 votesLike what MEILNII said "it's still part of the season" CLG performed the best among C9 and IMT better over the full year. Sure they didn't win the Summer Split but they at least got out of the first round something C9 couldn't do in the Spring Split, they also beat that same team that sent C9 home during that time.
Winning over the full season is more of a accomplishment than say a team that only got hot during the second half of the year and still not being able to win.
The LCS is similar to Football or Basketball where the patches are close to say injuries. Say the meta changes from ADC's to TOP lane carries the team that has more focus on ADC are now "injured" because of the Meta.
Which team would you rather have to go to Worlds? CLG where they PROVED and have EARNED spots at MSI for NA and have shown that they can win against the best teams in the world. They might be in a slump right now but I have faith to believe that they will bounce back and show up again for NA.
IMT where if Reignover doesn't camp for Huni, Huni will just fall off the face of the Earth and not do anything that makes sense. A Mid and Support who don't do anything and a ADC that gets caught out 24/7. It's 2015 TSM worlds all over again if you ask me.
YCitizenSnipsY1 votesFirst off Football and Basket ball don't have two splits, they have one continuous season. And injuries are closer to a roster swap then a meta change. Its not like the NBA nerfed GS by making 3's count for less. But when they took Dramond out for game 5 it was a lot like SK losing their starting jungler at worlds ins season 4.
Are we really still pretending MSI results mean anything after last years worlds? Remember when SKT failed so the KR exodus hurt the region. Or how LGD and EDG were favorites to win the worlds becasue EDG won MSI. Or how EU was supposed to be close to KR because of that 5 game series at MSI, even though both EU teams in the bracket got stomped 3-0 in by the KR teams.
