He left in a sort of controversy regarding riot's policies and/or personal branding. I believe he has a vlog where you can't find more information.
Both he and DoA took an indefinite leave from League casting. Whether it was Monte's conflicts with Riot over that particular year, pay in general, or just a need for a change of pace, that goes up to the opinion of the fans. DoA did release a vlog with Monte regarding their leave, oddly titled
Hopefully that gives a bit of insight.
He thought he is entitled to a higher pay check because another company paid a bit higher. So he made a fuzz about it.
Riot basically told him they paid less but there was more room for exposure with them because of the popularity of Lol.
He was greedy, riot said fuck off*[slayer-pantheon-thumbs]*
