Worlds would be SO MUCH better with fewer teams

for one simple reason - NO CRAPPY GROUP STAGE

group stages suck. this is pretty much an undisputable fact. we finally get all these teams together from around the world and we only get to see them play 3 other teams? group stages also suck because they introduce so much luck when grouping teams together, but they are a necessary evil because there are so many teams at worlds.

worlds would be so much better with only 10 teams (top 2 from each region and 2 wildcards) and heres why... YOU CAN HAVE EVERY TEAM PLAY EVERY OTHER TEAM - it sucks so bad to see teams only play 3 other teams and then half the fricking teams drop out for the bracket stage. all these 3rd place teams are just filler anyway and are pretty useless. what you could do is put the 3rd place team from each region into the wild card tournament to try and beef up the quality of the wild card slots so they aren't such a joke.

thoughts/opinions on this?

but why? I think that sounds like a decent idea, especially the third places having to compete with the wildcards.

Except number 3 from EU beat number 1 from China and number 3 from NA beat number 1 from LMS in game 1 of the various groups

So how "all these 3rd place teams are just filler anyway and are pretty useless" ?

If anything, you should expand world to avoid wildcard teams to unbalance the strength of the various groups when doing the draw

if you throw the third place teams into the wild card tournament you still get the good third place teams but the turds wouldn't make it. and just because a team wins a game doesn't mean they are better. lets see how many third place teams make it out of groups.

The third place teams are yet above the level of thewildcard tournament, they don't lower the level of competition, and don't really deserve to be treated as scrubs and go through such kind of a turnament And you can't completely cut out wildcard regions either, because League is still expanding in various servers/regions, and even the other regions deserve a chance to compete at Worlds That's why you would need eventually to expand Worldsto ensure there is an equal amount of bad wildcard teams in and thus you do not have unbalanced groups, rather than reducing the amount of teams

or you could just get rid of the crappy teams instead of adding more. putting the third place teams in the wild card tournament would do just that and still give developing regions a chance at worlds. if a regions best team cant beat other regions 3rd place teams then they don't deserve worlds.

Nah, by this rate you'll never get the point where a wildcard region could eventually compete in a group state with a major region team They need to acknowledge what the best of the world has to offer (and it's not KOO, or TSM/C9 or Origen/H2K the best of the world) and their level to understand how much they still have to work if they want to compete some day far down the line. If their objective is to compete with #3 of the main regions, they'll never achieve anything because those #3 teams are looking themselves above them towards the best in the region to beat them, so it's a catch game that will never end And if anything, it's not like LMS has generally much to offer either except from their #1 team, so why should #2 team from LMS get the automatic pass over #3 from KR, CH, EU or NA going through the same logic?

Expand world, even changing the formula (more group stages?) is the way to go, not the other way around

what a load of nonsense. youre telling me that wild card teams will never get better unless they get stomped by the best teams in the world? if they cant even beat the 3rd seed teams why should they go to worlds and play against even better teams? they are completely useless at worlds right now and just imbalance the whole tournament cus they are free wins to whoevers group they are in. wild card teams have been getting stomped at worlds for years now and they never get better so that destroys your argument.

and I don't even have Taiwan teams as their own separate region - they would either be combined with china or be in the wild card tournament.

Looking at the result, NA could be the one that deserve to go into wild card, not LMS lol
