Can someone explain why some teams are leaving and some teams are staying?

Like I know it's for franchising but I don't know what that means at all. I'm 4th grade.

Franchising is something similar to that of the NFL. There are going to be a set number of teams (10 to be exact) that will become more like major organizations than just a rag tag team of players. Riot has taken in alot of applications from several different teams, and potential team owners, and is accepting or denying them.

As far as I know, there have been 6 teams that have been accepted: TSM, Cloud9, CLG, Team Liquid, Echo Fox, and a new(ish) team being Optic Gaming. There has also been another LCS spot taken by the owner of a basketball team (eventually, he will have a team of his own, it's just not made yet). So, as of right now, we are waiting for 3 more spots to be filled.

The teams that have been denied are Immortals, Dignitas, Phoenix1, and Team Envy.....as far as we know.

Thank you for giving a reasonable answer to his question. It seems most people can't be 'informative' about a simple question when they have a strong opinion on the subject matter.

Riot is deciding they would rather demand money from teams, rip apart half their fanbase, and go back to Bo1 format than promote real growth and competition in NA.

Teams, mostly tsm were ones asking for franchising

And everything so far for next seasons changes favor TSM. They had one of the highest win rates for first games. Bjerg was already granted resident status this year to free up an import slot. Franchising has seen Dig and now IMT removed, teams which were on the rise and real NA threats. It's pretty trashy, fuck the LCS.

Well, a lot of other teams are happy for franchising. Hell, even some EU teams applied to join NA LCS. And no, LCS is not gonna tank in views. Its gonna go high up cause of new sponsors and media coverage.

It's not the first year that Bjerg doesn't take an import slot... It's been like that for minimum the last 2 years so... (including this one)

And btw, it doesn't really matters when they only have 1 other import (Svenskeren which they should probably change but hey, that's just my personnal opinion)

I don't like TSM that much (more of a C9 fan personally), but even I have to admit that not everything that happens in pro play is to help them.
